Bank Book copied in Colour
dick turpin replied to dick turpin's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Standard practice for most I think to take everything bar the kitchen sink, although I do ensure I take a photo copy of said item. -
Bank Book copied in Colour
dick turpin replied to dick turpin's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
You are right, hence the paranoia, nothing here is ever black and white. -
Being pedantic no doubt, but have printed out copy of bank book In colour not black and white for next retirement extension, is that going to be OK....thinking maybe all docs need to be b/w.

New passport - how to proceed?
dick turpin replied to StayinThailand2much's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
He's leaving the country, so no need to fill his passport with two pages of crap. -
Wrong.....you obviously don't know Isaan.
-
Why not just stay home and rip up 1,000 baht notes.
-
Just returned from the home village in Isaan where there has been a spate of passings, so the red shirts are out in force on the gate post to ward off the evil spirits. Used to think they were all Liverpool supporters.
-
Seeing as you have already been stung fot 5,000 baht think the least they can do is to tell how to proceed.

Korat Immigration department. How is the service?
dick turpin replied to samsingsong's topic in Isaan
They are a helpful and friendly bunch at Korat, and if you get there early you will have the place to yourself. Be aware that the office is way out of town on Highway 224, heading towards Chok Chai potteries. -
Indeed, was referring to sole bank accounts, which most expats have to hold funds for visa extensions.
-
There is a current thread "Baht 800,000 when I die" which gives a better explanation.
-
There is always red tape involved. The police will have to be informed who will immediately close all your bank accounts. Then as a foreigner your embassy will need to be informed with a duly completed form. This will then allow for your mortal self to be released for a half day out at your local temple.

Confusing situation
dick turpin replied to BenStark's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
It matters not when your extension or passport expires you still need to do 90 day report, which will likely be valid to expiry of old passport. Then when you get new passport go to immigration transfer stamps, get a new extension and reset the 90 day report......going to be a long day. -
Renting rice paddy
dick turpin posted a topic in Organic Farming, Smallholding and Kitchen Gardening
Always thought you could only rent rice paddy by the rai at an annual rate Now understand you can rent say five rai for an up front payment of 150,00 baht and retain the land until the owner wants it back at which time he will repay the 150,000 baht. Anyone gone this route and come across any pitfalls. My sage of a mother-in-law says it is worthwhile if you can keep the land for several years. -
UK expats re-enfranchised

Think you will find that a good few Brits here still "live" in the UK. Already looking forward to voting for my local muslim candidate at the next election. -
Thailand to abolish hefty import tariff on wine
dick turpin replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Agree, took a couple of Swiss friends on a wine tasting tour of winery around khao Yai, they almost choked up on the samples. My delicate palate, used to such "high quality" fare thought it was a premuim product by Thai standards and indeed, almost drinkable.- 132 replies

New UK passport & TM6
dick turpin replied to scotsmarc's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
True..... But when I recently asked at immigration if I could bin a TM6 collected when I last entered the country back in 2018, they at first said yes, then quickly changed their mind and said it best to keep it, to match up with the computer record. As with all things immigration, best to keep everything and throw nothing away.
