Cloud-connected inverters - should we be concerned?
Crossy replied to Crossy's topic in Alternative/Renewable Energy Forum
Definitely put the pi near your inverters, then WiFi or ethernet. Long USB cables can be problematic. Pretty sure hardware will ship from the US, or get a pi locally and download the software. -

Pretty much, yes. Have a look at the Solar Assistant website for full details. -

DIY solar system - how to sell electricity to PEA
Crossy replied to 4myr's topic in Alternative/Renewable Energy Forum
The question is, of course, considering how much you've spent to get approval, just how long will it take to break even? -

Elderly couple gets 500 baht electricity bill for a single fan - video
Crossy replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
A bill of 500 Baht equates to around 120kWh per month. Use https://eservice.pea.co.th/estimatebill/ to check. A constant load of 170Watts would do that. An old (inefficient) fan on high 24/7 plus a light (don't tell me they don't have a light) particularly if an old incandescent lamp, would come pretty near that. Of course we don't know what previous bills were. -
Google "CHINA kills all non Sol-Ark branded DEYE unit in the USA" for the background story. It would appear that someone, likely the manufacturer, is disabling certain solar inverters. The actual reasoning isn't totally clear but it does open up the eyes to just how much of our technology (not just inverters) is open to attack. Remember those Russian EV chargers that went offline when the tanks rolled? https://electrek.co/2022/02/28/hacked-electric-car-charging-stations-russia-displays-putin-dckhead-glory-to-ukraine/ Whilst my Deye inverters are 100% legal here in Thailand I'm definitely considering moving to local monitoring (such as Solar Assistant) just in case the SHTF and China decides that turning off solar is advantageous to their plans for world domination! Could be a few hundred bucks well spent. Now, about that BYD Sealion EV ... Thoughts??

Not exactly personal experiences but ... Long, long ago, a group of us who were working in KL went up to Phuket for a mucky long-weekend. As we were crawling out of soi Crocodile having picked up rentals in the Star Bar we saw an American gentleman who, it would seem, had copped a feel as his date was climbing into a tuk-tuk. He was heatedly complaining that there was more there than he'd expected. Our own tuk-tuk whizzed off back to the hotel before we saw the actual outcome. On the same job we were all safely ensconced in the bar of the Subang Hyatt with one of the newly imported chaps from the UK. There was a well-known and actually quite convincing "person of the not-quite-female persuasion" who our new chap was chatting up. Of course, those in the know were encouraging him! "Corr, she's a bit of alright; you're in there!" After a while they both left, separately of course. About 20 minutes later the phone in the bar rang, it was for our boss (who was the ringleader of course). "<name of boss>, there's a man in my room and it's not me!" Later, I was working in Bengaluru, India. Nobody, even with the beer-goggles installed, could mistake an Indian eunuch, as they are known, for an actual woman. It's a bloke in a saree, complete with 6 o'clock shadow, adams apple and "husky" voice. Our tunnelling contractor had a bunch of Thai workers in their camp, in order to keep them alive (Indian food is lethal to Thai's) they had imported a couple of Thai chefs. Of course both were ladyboys, they spent much of their time strutting around the camp in high-heels and mini-skirts. The locals couldn't tell and several times called the authorities informing them that there was a brothel operating out of the camp! I did want to take them to Ladies-Night (ladies drink free) at our hotel but unfortunately (maybe fortunately), they were never available.
