  1. Jimmy, Could you please add another landmark or two for me since I don't know the Buffalo Bar.

    Thanks.

    Just to be sure....

From Pattaya Klang head south on 3rd road. Keep going past the old Xcite disco site on your right, past a neon sign for the Full Love Inn on your left, past Soi Chaiyapoom on your right. The next soi in your right is Soi Lengkee which has a hardware store on one corner and a Mityon-type motorbike shop on the other corner. About 50 metres past Soi Lengkee on your left (still on 3rd Road) is a car rental place and then a row of around 6-8 shophouses. The khao soy place is the second shop in this row - a double unit. At the end of this row is a small soi and after the soi is The Castle fetish club and The Buffalo Bar. Almost directly opposite on the other side of 3rd Road is a coffee shop called something like Coffee Club. If you're driving down 3rd Road and you pass a bar called The Ranch on your right or if you see a sign for The Village Chippy on your left you've gone too far.

he could use google street view to look for it before he goes
  2. I went to the bank in person this morning and spent three hours waiting patiently because nobody within Bangkok bank either in Thailand or at the London office had replied to any of my e-mails and I had sent the same e-mail three times.

I was a bit forceful and said I was not leaving until I could advise the sender in England what they had done wrong compared to the first time they sent the transfer which was without any problem.

At first I was served by a very unhelpful and quite frankly useless guy who tried to brush me off by saying I needed to phone the London office to find out what why they had rejected the payment. But I said I needed some answers today. He told me I should call the complainants section and he handed me his phone handset and I was put on hold on and off for about 45 min as I explained the situation to various people and they transferred me from one person to another. After chatting away to various people in different departments eventually a smart looking lady sitting at a nearby desk came over and she took over the situation. She had been listening to my conversation. I was having with various people. I have to say this woman was phenomenal. She was dealing with three or four issues at a time and it's as if she was thriving on it. She stood out from the rest of the bank staff like a shining gem!

The rest of them were just totally unable to think outside the box.

She was the only person in the whole bank who took any interest in my situation. She called all over the place and apparently tonight Thailand time she is going to get hold of a copy of the documentation relating to the first transfer so they can compare the documents relating to the latest failed transfer to see where the inconsistencies are. I'm just very pleased I had her to help me.

So I have to go back tomorrow morning for the next instalment!

  3. Agreed. Had fantastic khao soy in CM and in Bangkok. But have not really found a good restaurant here. Can't wait to hear if somebody knows one.

Luckily, wifey does a great job with khao soy...but doesn't use coconut milk.

    " but doesn't use coconut milk. "

    why ?

  4. But you can get a single entry non immigrant o-visa at any nearby consulate that gives a 90 day entry that can be extended for one year at immigration if you can meet the financial requirements 800K baht in a Thai bank for 60 days or 65K baht income proven by an income letter from your embassy.

You can then get a multiple re-entry permit which would be valid for the length of your extension.

thanks for that ! This sounds ok and will avoid me having to spend 30,000 baht on a return ticket to my country solely for this purpose.

I will have the 800,000 this week ( right now it has been held up somewhere in the transfer process to Bangkok bank ) but then I will have to wait for it to be in the bank for 60 days.

Is Savanakhet a good place to get the single entry non immigrant o-visa ?

The reason for the delay in your 800,000 THB transfer is probably due to the fact that all foreign exchange transfers into Thailand equalling more than 20,000 USD have to be declared. Based on my experience of requesting such a transfer some years back, Bangkok Bank may ask you to complete a form before finalising the transfer.

Incidentally, if you're a Brit and didn't already know, you can make internet transfers from your UK account to your Bangkok Bank account via Bangkok Bank's London branch - see http://www.bangkokbank.com/bangkokbank/personalbanking/dailyBanking/TransferingFunds/TransferringIntoThailand/ReceivingFundsfromUK/Pages/ReceivingFundsfromUK.aspx. In my experience these are equally quick as and much cheaper than SWIFT transfers.

I gather that a similar facility exists for our American cousins via Bangkok Bank's New York branch.

" In my experience these are equally quick "

Thanks but I have to disagree with you!

It's been a terrible experience…….. explained in this thread and it still isn't over!

  5. TM will be 86 or 85 depending if visa exempt or tourist visa entry.

Have copy passport date/entry visa if have/entry stamp and departure card.

Have photo(s) (more than one may be required).

Fee will be 2,000 baht as I earlier stated.

Bank passbook and copy plus letter of account balance from bank manager.

Most places do not require medical certificate.

You should have some proof of where living as that determines where you may apply - although Bangkok will always accept if local office will not.

    Thanks
  6. Once in bank you can request change of current status to non immigrant O visa entry which gives 90 days stay (and plenty of time to meet the 60 day bank deposit requirement) for the extension of stay application later.

Are these all the documents I would need to take to the Savanakhet consulate ?

    1. Application form T.M.

    2. Copy of passport

    3. One 4 x 6 cm photo. 4/. 500 baht fee.

    5. proof of money of 800,000 baht in a Thai bank

    6. medical certificate

That would be the requirements at immigration to get an extension or a non immigrant visa entry. An extension costs 1900 baht and non immigrant visa entry would be 2000 baht.

A medical certificate would not be required.

For Savannakhet all you would only need your passport and copy of photo page and pay 2000 baht for the visa.

    Thanks
  7. just an update to anybody that is interested. Now that the holiday is over I have established through the head office of Bangkok bank here in Thailand that the money definitely has not even reached this country yet. I have contacted the sender today in the UK to ask them to get their bank to contact Bangkok bank London branch .

The intriguing question however is where has the money been lying for the past seven days?

  10. The visa for this is called multi entry non immigrant O-A from your home country Thai Consulage with police check/medical and proof of financials. Its official name is Long Stay.

But most people extend that or a non immigrant O visa entry for one year retirement at immigration inside Thailand and for travel obtain re-entry permit at 1,000 baht single or 3,800 baht multi.

    thanks.

Does this mean I would have to return to my country to apply for this or would I be able to apply for it in somewhere like Savannakhet ?

  11. Most recently with GBP dropping the wails reached a crescendo with the

"we will never see 45 baht again! I wished I had changed all my money!

Woe is me!..." and so on. Well now that sterling has returned to 45

baht, they will be quietly saying to themselves " I'll just wait until

it reaches 47" and then when it reaches 47, wait to 48 and when it hits

48, let's hang on till 50... And then it drops below 45 and the wailing

kicks off again. This goes on for ever.

A public announcement sponsored by Leo. Cheers!

    Currently 46 on XE.

I am waiting until it reaches at least 70 baht - £ before i transfer any of my money smile.png

i will bet you anything it will not reach anywhere near 70....

  12. I hope Israel knows what she is doing. Of course if you bomb chemical weapons and they are released killing people, you are responsible for launching those weapons even if your intent was to prevent their use.

If you conspire to put chemical weapons into the hands of a terrorist organization, who have a track record of targeting civilians then you are morally responsible for any repercussions. Israel has clearly warned where her red lines are and acted to defend them, I hope Washington has similar clarity of purpose should it's own red lines be crossed.
As if Israel didn't have a track record targeting civilians as well..

Really? please post links to civilians being targeted?

" (Gaza City, December 20, 2012) – Four Israeli attacks on journalists and media facilities in Gaza during the November 2012 fighting violated the laws of war by targeting civilians and civilian objects that were making no apparent contribution to Palestinian military operations, Human Rights Watch said today, after a detailed investigation into the incidents.

The attacks killed two Palestinian cameramen, wounded at least 10 media workers, and badly damaged four media offices, as well as the offices of four private companies, Human Rights Watch said. One of the attacks killed a two-year-old boy who lived across the street from a targeted building"

  13. Just what do you expect from a well known conspiracy theorist? rolleyes.gif

Former Bush official says Syria chemical weapons allegations could be ‘Israeli false flag operation’

“If Tyranny and Oppression come to this land, it will be in the guise of fighting a foreign enemy.”

" In what was a quite astounding statement, Col. Lawrence Wilkerson, former chief of Staff for Secretary of State Colin Powell under George W. Bush, said that the chemical weapons allegedly used in Syria could in fact be “an Israeli false flag operation.”"

  15. I had an experience like yours a few years ago transferring money from USA to Bangkok Bank. The problem was they had my account number wrong, I gave them the right number but someone at the bank copied it wrong. It took about two weeks. I found the money got Bangkok Bank but they could not make the deposit because of the wrong account number, they held it a few days then send it back through channels it came. A few days later it got back to my bank and was re-sent with the correct account.

but I have got a copy of the remittance notice and I checked all the details and everything is correct. Also, the details are the same as they used during the first transfer at the end of January when there was no problem and it was FAST.
You are worrying unecessarily, go enjoy your weekend.

    [/quote

yes , I will forget about it now until Tuesday

anyway thank you to everybody who has responded

when it all becomes clear what was happened next week I will post the conclusion

  17. This may be overly paranoid, especially in this thread, but I feel there MAY be a protocol where if they can't get a hold of you, they change the money to baht on the day that best suits them via the exchange rate.

No, over a certain minimum the banks Treasury department is required to contact the customer to gain their approval for the offered rate (which can be refused), under that limit the funds are converted on reciept. Also, the profit margin of the banks on foriegn currency conversions is pretty constant, regardless of what the exchange rate might be or how much it fluctuates. The rate they convert at is determined by the Bid and Ask prices of the FOREX market plus their standard percentage charge.
actually, I would be better off if I could get more recent exchange rates like yesterday and today. As I haven't received the money yet could I insist on that? And by Tuesday on current trends, it will be even more favourable for me.
  18. Has it left your UK account?

When I sent money back in 2004 for a house it didn't leave my account for a week.

It is to do with fraud and money laundering rules as banks have an duty of care to themselves to not let their institutions be used for money laundering etc.

I think it'll show soon as said.

thanks i will check on this on Tuesday, because as you say nothing will happen now with public holidays on Monday simultaneously in Thailand and UK
