  1. Ignoring the issue of work-permits, volunteers should work under the direction of professionals.

Unskilled volunteers can cause more problems and deaths.

For instance, if you free a person that has had their legs trapped by debris for more than a few hours, you will kill them. Not common knowledge, but, a professional will know that.

LOL. Not at all. It all depends on what the injuries are. Appropriately applied tourniquets are better than allowing someone to bleed out or to have exposed bones. Tell you what, I pomise to leave you in the rubble, however, for others, I will make an effort to help them.

Good post and made me chuckle!!

So releasing a person who has had his legs trapped for a few hours will kill them? leaving them there will surely do that!!

lol any tourniquets applied should be released after 15mins, leaving for longer than that will cause major problems!!

  2. I remember coming down the big hill from big Buddha on a GSXR1000 by the time I reached the bottom I was in agony, how do you ride with a light grip when going down steep hills slowly? they have always given me wrist ache and back ache, as I said I am not suited to the Supersport style.

  3. The Yamaha F8 is a nice bike, but the problem with all Yamahas that I have owned (big bikes, not small scooters) is that their power comes at 7000rpm, before that they are almost dead...

You obviously have not ridden a crossplane R1.

Amazing torque even at lower rpm's make it such an easy bike to ride- you are almost never in the wrong gear- just twist and go!

God I hate those huge lumps of lard on the back (exhausts).

Great bike and would love to ride one one day smile.png With smaller slips-ons of course 555

A great looking bike but very painful on the wrists, guess I am just not suited to that style of riding position!!

  4. The Yamaha F8 is a nice bike, but the problem with all Yamahas that I have owned (big bikes, not small scooters) is that their power comes at 7000rpm, before that they are almost dead... I would rather have the Kawa or the Ducati - And to be honest, that Z1000 is pornography on wheels... Not saying that the ducati is anything else, but there are fewer ponnies in it.. and it's not in the black colour that I like---

I do hope that the Kwak is a bit higher than the ER6N, and maybe a bit wider- guess it is time to go to the showroom when I come back from my holiday...

    HOPE HOPE HOPE...

The Z1000 is by far the best big bike I have ever owned, it is like a missile away from the lights and that is not at full throttle, it is 100% more comfortable than the Supersport bike which I love but hate the riding position, you will never regret getting the Z it is simply stunning!! hang on for maybe 6 months because mine will be up for sale!!

Oh and if you are talking about the Ducati 795 forget it, it is pants!!

  5. I own a Street Triple R, and would also love to park a Z1000 next to it, and a Streetfighter S, and Tuono V4. Saw one in a showroom last Saturday here in Singapore.....sex on wheels. Although the Speed Triple R in the same place is also a real knee trembler.

I've had my bike serviced today at the main Triumph agent, 22K km = valve clearances, clean and balance throttle bodies, check on the game boy, filters/oil, plugs, EBC brake pads, new radiator cap = 600 Sing $ = THB about 15K.

    (Welcome to Singapore)

15k for service seems very expensive!! the Aprila is gorgeous!

  6. If i buy new again this (FZ8) might well be my next bike if nothing new comes to Thailand within the next 2 years smile.png

    I'm a biker so I wouldn't say no but I am in love with the Z1000 smile.png

The Z1000 is simply awesome, if the torque figures are correct it is as fast as the ZX10R except top speed of course, love mine it is so comfortable and sounds like thunder, I will only be keeping mine for 6 to 12 months then change for something a bit more sedate, buying it was all about getting the big powerful bike out of my system!! also I don't drive fast I never been over 120 mph on any big bike I have owned to me it is all about the bike, the sound and the look!!

Why change? Sounds like you love the bike and you've already taken the main hit on depreciation so why not just keep it?

If you want something similar but a bit lighter and more agile then a Street Triple might be a good bet. The Z1000 is a great looking bike though.

It's nothing to do with weight I am 6' 4" when it comes to buying things I am definitely Ting Tong, I never keep anything long, the Z1000 is the best big bike I have ever owned but it will have to go after the period I stated, some lucky person will get the Z cheaper, at the end of the day I will be able to get another new bike and have lots left over.

Obviously I will lose money but life is short and there are other bikes to try!!

  7. I have been eyeing up this bike lately... I might change my ER6F this year to this bike...

Has anyone tested this and the ducati monster? Which one is better in terms of comfort for a lardy giant as myself (186cm)?

It's got to be the Z1000 as the monster (I assume you are talking about the Rayong made 795?) is in a different class give physical size and cc.

If on the other hand you are talking about the 1100cc Monster then I would go for that but it is 800k baht rather than the 585k for the Z1000.

The Z1000 is a monster so why pay 800k for the Ducati 1100cc monster/

  9. Should've elaborated a bit. The moans I've heard have basically been prostitution visible, taxi fares and scams. They invariably start with the bargirl rants and mostly come from middle aged women. The sort that would never venture to Pattaya, but for some reason thinks Phuket is different. Didn't look all that different to me, so I guess the moaning is legit and due to misinformation.

Samui, on the other hand has the scene a bit more hidden and I haven't heard much moaning about the island. The broschure and reality match a bit better.

So I presume most of the moanings are due to wrong presumptions. Just think of Phuket as Pattaya with mountains and it'll be more close than the marketing images of pure clean white beaches with just a couple of tourists sipping coctails under an umbrella.

I visited Pattaya once and it was a stinking dirty place!! but I am sure there are good areas.

  10. Hi Mate you might be lucky to find a partner on here but if I was you I would email <removed> ask them if they could find some golfing partners for you, hope you are ready to pay very high green fee's. good luck.

  11. <snip> it's human nature to complain or to have a moan!!!

At last... the actual true reason to the OP's question.

While I agree it is human nature, and a lot of the moaning seems to be very much at the surface, this really does not answer the OP's question: why do some people moan here and others don't. Especially since with some of the moaners the moaning about Phuket seems to be really rooted in their veins.

Everyone moans or complains without exception, everyone has moaned at some point in there lives, to say you haven't is just not true. my opinion!!

My answer to the op's question is: when you come from a different country to live here there will be vast differences to where you come from, so obviously there will be complaints and moans from time to time, I believe every ex-pat has complained or moaned at some point, some more than others and some seem to enjoy it!!

  12. ^ You talk about being retired and what businesses you are operating in the same post!!

I think you mean that you are in a financial position to retire if you so desired. smile.png

Back to the topic slightly. I must say that I find it even stranger when very wealthy people moan. I know the old adage that you can't buy happiness but when you are wealthy you are in a far better position to change things you don't like about your life.

I mention it because someone gave not being financially secure as a reason for moaning, and you are quite obviously financially secure yet one of the forums better known moaners shall we say or pointers out of things that could be better as you would call it. smile.png

I myself have been extremely skint on Phuket in the past yet still very happy. So finances although I believe will pay a huge roll over all, obviously isn't a cut and dry reason for moaning.

My search for the truth continues tongue.png

I don't think it is strange that wealthy people moan, they moan about different things, oh dam my salmon is not cooked!! or my Porsche has a flat tire!! bloody hell the interest this month is only 200,000bht!! I moan occasionally about the traffic, about the weather, about my interest only being 2,000 bht for the year lol it's human nature to complain or to have a moan!!!

  13. A couple hundred posts in a year isnt that many.. Only just over half as many as you have made.. Plus some of us can think and type fast..

As to the metals.. My post history back it up if you dig.. on here and elsewhere.. I put life savings into gold at mid 300s.. Had a chunk of silver from 6.80 ish but rigged and bet the farm on silver at 12:05 if memory serves. Now we are in retail and storage and even tho we are a new company we rank very highly on some competitive google search terms and as I say have managed to do a mil gbp a month turnover a couple of months last year.. The venture capital on that looks like a safe bet now but its still a long long way from where I want it to be. Selling PM's at retail is a very low margin business so you want the volume.

Of course if its such a no brainer that gold always gains in value I expect we will continue to get more customers as the debt crisis is a long long way from being over.

Anyway, must have been doing something right to 'retire' at 28 and be living in the million dollar hilltop villas hey ?? tongue.png

I always find it very strange when people come on here and elsewhere boasting about how much they have got, a previous poster did this and now he has nothing!!! is it one up manship? what you have should be private, I am not interested and I think others are not interested also.

People moan because they can, that is how they are made, I have moans now and again it's no different from my home country, no where is perfect!!
