Outgoing PM calls for peaceful and prompt transition of power
tomacht8 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
What a sweet mouth speech. But if you look closely, these are all just empty phrases. He consistently avoids naming names and parties. He is not ready to publicly analyze or present the current situation. That there is a coalition of 8 parties that represents a large majority in Parliament. Not a word from him about that. He also doesn't like the word democracy. He seems like a bad loser who's still secretly hoping for a miracle. -
Senate deputy chairman says Pita “unlikely to get 5 votes” from senators
tomacht8 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
The coalition has the majority in Parlament and they are all voted in by the people. They coalition (the majority) agreed for Pita as PM. And then we have the unelected Senators, who can block the will of the parliamentary majority with its 250 votes. -
Senator Submits Evidence on Pita’s ITV Shares to EC
tomacht8 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
These senators find it extremely difficult to explain what disadvantages other parties have suffered from what is, an on paper only itv media company that has ceased broadcasting since 2007 and has been delisted from the stock exchange since 2014. For a rationally thinking observer, the whole fuss is just ridiculous. They try desperately to inflate a mosquito into an elephant. -

Thai police accused of demanding 500,000 baht from Kazakhstan suspect
tomacht8 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
"You have to pay the court 500,000 baht for the temporary release of the suspect. Are you convenient for that? And may I ask you straightly? Could you pay the same amount to my team?” From the original source it sounds like 500K bail money for the court + 500K pocket money for the team. -

250 unelected people can neutralize the voting decision of a 60+ million population. System error, where the democratic majority principle is overridden.- 37 replies

Not working, just helping the wife
tomacht8 replied to lordmullin's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Thx. I've read it and it's quite confusing. The fact is, however, that around 18,000 baht per year has to be paid in taxes and social security, even if you only work part-time in the Thai family company. The basis of assessment are these different minimum salaries for foreigners. Furthermore, the activity must not concern the fields of work that are forbidden for foreigners (aliens) anyway. I think that's what is meant by "honest employment." Manual work Work in agriculture, animal husbandry, forestry or fishery excluding specialized work in each particular branch or farm supervision Bricklaying, carpentry or other construction works Wood carving Driving mechanically propelled carried or driving non-mechanically-propelled vehicle, excluding international aircraft piloting Shop attendance Auction Supervising, auditing or giving service in accountancy excluding internal auditing on occasions Cutting or polishing jewelry Haircutting, hairdressing or beauty treatment Cloth weaving by hand Weaving of mate or making products from reeds, rattan, hemp, straw or bamboo pellicle Making of Sa paper by hand Lacquer ware making Making of Thai musical instrument Niello ware making Making of products from gold, silver or gold-copper alloy Bronze ware making Making of Thai dolls Making of mattress or quilt blanket Alms bowls casting Making of silk products by hand Casting of Buddha images Knife making Making of paper of cloth umbrella Shoemaking Hat Making Brokerage or agency excluding brokerage or agency in international trade business Engineering work in civil engineering branch concerning designing and calculation, organization, research, planning, testing, construction supervision or advising excluding specialized work Architectural work concerning designing, drawing of plan, estimating, construction directing or advising Garments making Pottery or ceramic ware making Cigarette making by hand Guide or conducting sightseeing tours Street Vending Type setting of Thai characters by hand Drawing and twisting silk-thread by hand Office or secretarial work Legal or lawsuit services -

Then the official from the labor department in Surattani must have told me rubbish. Based on these numbers, the minimum tax and social security contributions are calculated for the WP foreigners. I would love to work in my wife's company for 5000 baht a month. But Unfortunately, these minimum salary sizes apply to me in my Thai family company. https://www.legal.co.th/resources/corporate-and-tax-advisory/thailand-tax-law/mandatory-minimum-wages-foreigners-working-thailand/ -
Thailand’s real estate sector eyes foreign investment boost

LOL I'm not making any stock market buy recommendations here. You have to deal with it yourself and inform yourself about the risks and opportunities. If you are aiming for a 5% annual return for your 10 million baht, you should be able to generate 500,000 baht per year before capital gains tax. -

As some posts suggest going straight to the immigration or labor board and asking... Do not do that!!!! That would be an invitation to snoop around on you. Better calculate whether a WP is worthwhile for you and your family, otherwise limit your help to non-visible activities in the background. -

If you get a work permit as an employee in your wife's business, she must pay you the following minimum wage per month:???? How much you get paid depends on your country of origin. Here's how it works out: 60,000 Baht/month: Canada, Japan and the United States of America 50,000 Baht/month: Europe (including the United Kingdom) and Australia 45,000 Baht/month: Hong Kong, Malaysia, South Korea, Singapore and Taiwan 35,000 Baht/month: China, India, Indonesia, the Middle East and the Philippines 25,000 Baht/month: Africa, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam Will the bureaucracy, additional taxes, social security payments, etc. really be worth it, if you look at it from the common family perspective? https://www.thethailandlife.com/minimum-wage-thailand -

It's sad that a foreign husband is almost forbidden to occasionally help his Thai wife in her own small business. This contradicts many social and moral principles such as the family as the nucleus of society, protection of the family, etc. This applies in particular to small businesses, where the income from the business is usually so low that the bureaucratic act of founding a family company that pays off Social Security, wages and taxes not worth it at all. -

I find many of the current standard 25-40sqm new build condos simply too expensive and unattractive. Glazed concrete shoeboxes, many without balconies, many with poor construction quality, many poorly soundproofed, people packed together like in chicken cages, meanwhile high monthly administration costs. In the lower price segment between 3-6 million baht you just don't get anything reasonable. If you then look in the area around 100 square meters, prices of 15-50 million baht are announced, depending on the location. If you instead invest the money in dividend stocks or mutual funds, you can use the dividends to rent a nice beach villa or rent a nice suite in a 5 star hotel. You are also not permanently tied to the property and also without the risk of annoying neighbors who may rent their condo to fun travel groups via Airbnd. 50 millions for 100sqm near Nana. No way. -
Interesting. 100 million THB. Is that the official price tag to buy an MP?

Prigozhin will be most likely dead soon. How Putin deals with his political opponents is well known. Now Putin is forced to put on a good face to the bad game. He needs the Wagner soldiers and is now recruiting them for his own army. Then, when Prigozhin's position is weakened, Putin's revenge will come.

Another activist lobbies Election Commission to rule out Pita PM bid
tomacht8 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
LOL. Then one would have to generally forbid all politicians to hold shares at all. The whole policy consists in promoting certain interest groups, industries and companies in the sense of a political-economic orientation. Many politicians have shares and are therefore not all independent in the distribution of public contracts, legislation and approval of subsidies. Since many have more than just 0.0003% from a closed media company. -

Read it again. My posting concerns the fact that even an off-exchange sale (a sale not through official trading channels on the stock exchange) or a donation does not lead to his name disappearing from the official list of shareholders! His name will therefore continue to be on the list of shareholders. When a listed stock is suspended from trading on the stock exchange, over-the-counter sales are not registered. -
Pattaya Welcomes 2.5 Million Tourists So Far Since Full Reopening
tomacht8 replied to snoop1130's topic in Pattaya News
2.5 million people have travelled to Pattaya, 1.2 million of which are Thais and 860,000 are foreign tourists. And the rest, - 440000 - must be aliens. -
Crackdown on Illegal Foreigners in Sukhumvit-Asok Area

Deputy Commander of the Immigration Bureau, who promptly ordered inspections of foreign nationals involved in unlawful employment practices and tax evasion. . The tax argument seems exaggerated to me. I doubt that the small, temporary street stalls living hand-to-mouth pay VAT and/or income taxes at all. I've never received a receipt there. -

Another detail is that the iTV shares were suspended from trading years ago by the stock exchange. Even if Pita had donated these shares to someone as executor - notarized -, his name would still remain on the list of shareholders because the company was frozen by the stock exchange regulator. All the manoeuvres, the accusations and the legal understanding of the election losers are so outrageous that one is surprised that they are not demanding the death penalty for illegal car parking. -

It is difficult for this theater to find an analogy at all. The father dies, the children inherit a car without an engine. The law says children are not allowed to drive a car. Now there's trouble because the children have a car in the garden, .....but they can't drive it, because there is no engine in it. It's kind of idiotic that some people now want to punish the children for driving this car, although the children can never have driven this car, because it is impossible that they could drive with this car at all. -
Noise, volume, noise pollution and unhealthy volume are unfortunately little known terms in Thailand. Whether at a concert, party or bar, the noise level is often above the unhealthy 85 dB over a longer period of time. I have a free sound measurement app on my smartphone and check the dB values in bars, concerts, etc. Pure horror, many over 100dB some in the peak at 120dB. The only thing that helps is stuffing something into yours ears or running away. I especially feel sorry for the employees and residents who can't run away. Apparently there are no specific dB regulations for bar, party and concert operators.

Problems are often the language barrier and also the newbie factor of Gogo Bar first-time visitors. Then comes the friendly smiling Mama San, says something, the guest doesn't understand anything, Mama San gives the thumbs up or the ok sign. And then suddenly there is a thimble-sized double tequila water shot on the bill for 400 baht. The experienced bar staff knows exactly what type of customers they are dealing with, and some are milked properly.
