  1. If your can not walk away and your Thai family decides to stay,
then you must stay with them and show some strength.
Try to become a member at a local sport shooting club.
Wear every day a extra large black Glock T-Shirt,
wear a big mobile phone or something legal, on the right backside under your T-Shirt.
No shorts and no flip flops, long jeans and black shoes are called for.
Let your neightbor think about this bulge, invite your club members for a drink/eat.
Show your neighbor that you have relationships with local VIP's.
Buy some red Walkie Talkies, same the police use. Put them in the shops and one in your car.
Do not provoke your neighbor directly, but try to train a thai like superior smile.
CCTV is also a must. Try to visit the store of your wife not regularly clockwise.

When you come to the shop for a visit and with whom you come, must be always a surprising.
And smile. Show that there are no problems, but show also that this is your home and you are able
to defend your family. Do not stick in your shop like a mouse in a hole with a cat infront.

Unfortunately, some people understand only the language of the fittest.
    Good luck.

  2. Sorry about my bad tinglish.

"Quoting the owner of Song Charoen Gold Shop, a senior DSI official said the former monk - known as Luang Pu Nenkham - had sold gold ornaments to her through his relatives on several occasions.
The shop owner Kesinee Obomkul, who also owns a housing estate in Muang district, said Wirapol had bought three houses from her but only paid for one.
Angsukate also quoted Kesinee as saying that Wirapol did not pay for the Bt2.8-million house in the form of gold ornaments, though she did not provide details on the amount of gold he sold to her."

So they have a lot business together.
Since one month this former monk is all day in the media.
    They know him well.
So it is very interesting to know the amount of gold he sold to her.
Why she not provide this information?
Even in Thailand the goldshop owners must do a bookkeeping/accounting.
And a monk bought 3 houses from them.
    For what?

  3. I do not believe them.

If you have to launder so much money, then you do not have to buy/sell such small quantities as Armulettes.

Then it is better to buy the whole gold shop or some more,

it is much more easily and efficiently with a value of 8 tons of gold.

May the DSI should check the background of some Goldshop owners too.

Who don't you believe? It is the DSI who have come up with the figure of 8 tons, so if you don't believe them why would you want them to check the background of Gold shops? Gold Jewellery is 10-15% more expensive than the price of the gold. When your Girlfriend wants a 2 baht Gold bracelet for a rainy day, you lose 15% the moment you walk out the door, remember that in your calculations of how much you are going to make when you sell it. If you bought gold jewellery at $1300 per ounce, you will have to wait till it hits $1495 before you start making a profit. People with big money don't do that, they buy bullion/bars/coins. I am sure there have been many 'smaller' people that have given what they thought was a monk with great prestige far more modest pieces of gold jewellery as making merit for the temple. These were trinkets for the monk to get him through his next weekend in the US.

I do not believe this goldshop owner!

  4. Somsak said his ministry |and the DSI would organise a joint operation in Phuket on July 25.
"If it's successful, we will use a similar approach in other tourist destinations such as Pattaya where mafia-style businesses are reportedly active," he said.

    Must be a april joke.
Funny strategy to announce there joint operation in advance.

    Whom they believe to catch?
How can something like this be successful?

  5. Best you have a lawyer beside you.
May he can make a pre court arrangement for you.
Normally, the lawyers, prosecutors and judges knowing each other well.

As I understand your case, the police have already given your case to the public prosecutor
and a court date is scheduled. The path via the police now, "Please can you help me," is imo too late. Better to contact a lawyer and let him speak with the prosecutor.

But anyway it is good to have an thai/english speaking lawyer in the court beside you!
    Good luck.
  6. You're forgetting the dozens of speedboats that dart to/from KPG from Samui all night, each laden with at least 30 pax. I drove past the departure point (Petcherat) before midnight recently & saw around 50 minibuses hogging both sides of the road delivering "Moonies" from all over Samui who were meandering across the road in total darkness...

Your right I did skip the speedboats so lets do some maths on those.

Your 50 minibuses, with 12 seats each assuming they are standard minibuses with people sitting on each other is 600 people, lets assume that 50 minibuses an hour from 8pm until 2am is normal for delivering people to the speedboats, that would be 7 runs to haad rin in 20 boats (your 30pax) assuming that each boat can make one return trip an hour (seems fair) that would give us 4200 extra people over the ferries.

I am going to be fair and say that the full mooners that stay on Koh Phangan will full up the ferries for 2 days (really it is a sliding scale between moonies and those just on a beach holiday over about 3-4 days) so that gives 14,000 on the ferries leaving 16,000 for the speedboats, since the speedboats only run that night and really can only do a maximum of 7 full runs each. That means 210 people per speedboat or 76 speed boats running all night to transport all the moonies. To get to the 40,000 figure you need 124 speedboats

you forget, that there are many tourists allready on KPG for holidays and many are joining the FMP even for a short while

You will note that I gave had 14,000 people staying on the island taking the ferries over the next couple of days...

Now I don't have figures for the number of hotel rooms on Koh Phangan, but the article linked to in this forum post (http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/628730-hotel-occupancy-on-koh-samui-68-for-2012/) gives 17,479 rooms on Samui, now Agoda lists 556 hotels opn Samui and 214 on Koh Phangan so lets be nice and say that Phangan has half the number of rooms as Samui, so 8739 rooms, which at an average of 2 people a room takes us back to capacity for 17,500 people staying on the island of which I am saying 80% go to the full moon party. I know Haad Rin the figure will be 100% (minus that one guy who didn't realise) but in other parts of the island it is 25-66% depending on the season (families in high season don't go).

In the speed boat section we had 16,000 people coming over from Samui for the night, which appears to be almost half of the hotel capacity. 40,000 people would require ever room one Phangan and 60% of Samui to attend.

If anyone has better numbers I am happy to update my figures.

    17,479
    17,479
    17,479

I live since 1989 on KP. In the past (around 1998 to 2004) we had on Peek Season - Chrismas/New Year Week - definitely around 35.000-40.000 party people. For the last year, I would estimate that we had 7.000 (May) -20.000 (Dec/Jan) party people. Many people from Samui and Koh Tao do not book rooms. The are comming only for one night. Also we have here a lot of private houses for rent!

If you are talk about the number of Party People, do not forget the locals and the 1000´s burmese workers.

They like to party too! KP hosts still the biggest regulary Beach Full Moon Party.

  8. It is always bad when the target market is not clear.
In recent years, beautiful high end resorts and condos were built with high walls around it.
Now there is a high vacancy rate.
So where are the quality tourists now?, willing to pay $ 300 - $1000 and more per night?
    Misjudgment of the market situation?

For Phuket it is too late to gain well-paying guests.
Too many problems, too many interests, urban sprawl nature, garbage problems, traffic problems, fraud problems, double pricing,
security issues, jet ski, taxi, tuk tuk problems, crime problems, too much bad news, etc.

Better is to concentrate on these three tourist groups:

    Party travelers:
Open more beer, girly and gogo bars, massage palours, build more shorttime Hotels and organize parties every night until sunrise.

    Longstay pensioners:
simplification of visa rules, build cheap apartments and simple houses for rent, build large supermarkets.

    Breakfast only travelers:
As described in the article, they can continue to riding around the Chinese, Russian and Indian tour travelers on the busses.

That is Phuket today und will be Phuket tomorrow.

  9. This is one list of a hundred.

Completely subjective regarding the methodology and the weighting factors.

No differentiation in terms of subjects.

This List is in parts more than questionable.

    Chiang Mai University no 98th

Rheinisch-Westfälische Technische Hochschule Aachen no 150th.

ups, did not know that the Chinag Mai University have such excellent research facilitys and laboratories.

Think this is more a PR list by name recognition as to quality of research and teaching.

Maybe you can find us a different list where the Thai unis are ranked significantly higher.

No the ranking methodologies are not completely subject. Different and subject to some variation in results.

These are uni rankings, not dept rankings. Some depts in some unis better than comparative depts in higher ranking unis but that is another subject.

Sorry can´t find Thai unis ranked higher.

Find here no. 201 Chulalongkorn University

    http://www.topuniversities.com/university-rankings/world-university-rankings/2012

    Find here

    http://www.timeshighereducation.co.uk/world-university-rankings/2012-13/world-ranking/range/351-400

King Mongkut's University of Technology, Thonburi

Maybe the best uni in Thailand.

But do not take this ranks to seriously, as all rankings.

Especially with this "wobbling" n - dimensional material

  11. No question, the prices in Bangkok / Thailand rise, measured in Thai Baht.
Look at condo, gasoline, rent, food, insurance prices. + 10-25% in the last 5 years.

But if you compare that with your domestic currency:
    1 Pound 66 Baht (today 48), 1 Dollar 36 Baht (today 30), 1 Euro 53 Baht (today 40) (from 5 Year exchange hights)
then many goods raised in price over 50%.

  12. 100 million baht thrown into a small farmer village.

This will give many problems for the girls family.
Grown hierarchies and structures can be destroyed as fast.
All relatives, neighbors and "friends" will come to borrow money.
Later, the insurance salesman and all kinds of fortune hunters will stop by.
Rule No. 1 when you win the lottery, do not tell anyone.
Hope they can handle there fortune.

  13. Well, look at most of you pointing the finger and throwing stones in glass houses. We don't know why he overstayed yet and straight away most of you portraying the perfect alien! Shame on you and your bullying of a man you don't even know. Let's find out the whole story if we can before for he is succumbed to your wrath of comments.....Just saying....:-)

The reason for his overstay is irrelevant, it's two years, you know? In possession of drugs also.

Ok, what do you think is the right punishment for him?
