  1. And yet another group of confident Chinese swimmers. Reminds me of Koreans. They'd flock to the beach everyday in the summer wearing long pants and long-sleeved shirts with gigantic sunbonnets on their heads slathered with sunblock to the point that they looked like they were wearing clown makeup sporting the obligatory lifejacket, plop down on the sand 10m from the water and get no nearer than that, except for those brave few who would wade in up to their ankles.

  2. That guy in the picture looks like he isn't worried in the slightest. Just another day in the jungle.

My wife and I were driving along in Thailand quite some time ago and we stopped at a rural roadside market. No one paid much attention to our Piccanto until they saw a falang get out. Then the scrambling was incredible as Thais all around grabbed "things" and hid them away. I took out my camera and the cacophony of "No photo!" followed by waving arms and busier hiding actions was hilarious. I got glimpses of creatures I'd never seen before.

  3. A nice story about the outrageous honesty of Thai people. Here's another one.

Many years ago when I was visiting the Land of Smiles I dropped a 5 baht coin in the departure lounge  just before I boarded the airplane. A Thai janitor who was cleaning nearby, picked it up. He didn't have time to catch up to me so he went online and bought a ticket for the flight and got on the plane. Fortunately he had his passport with him. He finally caught up with me near immigration in Canada and gave me back my 5 baht. I was so impressed I gave him all my Thai money I had left in my pocket, 15 baht, plus I gave him the 5 baht coin back. He was so grateful. He waied for a full 27 minutes. Then we parted. He went back to Thailand and I went to my mia noi's house.

It was a wonderful and memorable trip.

As I understand it, this is only about visa on arrival. It is not about visa waiver when crossing borders, which until recently was limited to two per callendar year. The cabinet made the decision to change this but no one is sure whether it has been implemented. Any news?

To the best of my knowledge it has not been implemented. I live in Laos and with the start of the new year I have my 2 free trips in the bank, as it were. After that, it's off to the Thai embassy with 1000 baht for my next trip. Not likely.

Well the extent of tinting on windows here cut's down night vision when driving a lot,to be honest i have thought of investing in night vision goggles.

This is a very valid point. My wife is constantly griping about getting our windows tinted darker. I refuse and I tell her I want people to be able to see me. There's a reason why very darkly tinted windows are illegal in many Western countries. They are inherently more dangerous to both the driver of the vehicle and others trying to see the driver and figure out what they are going to do.
