Are there laws in Thailand regarding legal parenting responsibilities up to a certain age? For example, in Canada parents are legally and financially responsible to take care of their kids till they reach 16, then you can kick them out if you wish.

I don't know why anybody would buy a condo. Buying something that comes with obligatory payments which are used and dispensed beyond the purview of the giver just doesn't make sense. It's exactly why these things happen...everywhere.

Look at the two pictures of this sick baasstard. Look at his face! He hasn't got a care in the world. This tells me one thing for certain, he's a sociopath who doesn't care about right or wrong. Or, he's a psychopath and doesn't know the difference between right and wrong.
Either way...whack his peepee

I have always believed that all of us given the choice would rather have a great life back in one's own land, if money was no object and had family etc.
What person in their own country who had everything a man needed and was happy with his lot woke up one morning and thought 'I think I'll move to Thailand'?
This generalization does not apply to all. You're assuming everyone has a natural bias to their birth country and this is not so for various reasons. I know several people who were delighted to leave 'home' with no desire to ever go back. I count myself among them.
I left Canada in September 2005. I have never been back. I will never set foot on Canadian soil again and I haven't missed 'home' for one single solitary second. There are several reasons for this. I was born in Canada but grew up in Germany, completing all of elementary school there. My earliest solid memories of Canada start in middle school. Thus my formative years, psychologically speaking, were spent in Europe. I never developed an emotional attachment to Canada.
There's also the issue of weather. I despise, with a vehemence shown only by people's loathing of Trump, cold weather - winter. Canada = winter
There are more, but suffice it to say, not everyone longs to go home. I would rather live in Laos having my life as I do, which is comfortable, than return to Canada for a 7 figure salary watching sports on TV as a couch tester for a furniture manufacturing company.

With the length of time that Thailand has been a world-wide desired tourist destination, it's shocking that these basic fundamentals of safety are still being discussed.

Why does it seem that Nigerians proliferate this type of scam? And why do ladies fall for it? Are they really that desperate? If so, that's sad.....

" Kongsak Kupongsakorn, president of the Southern Hoteliers’ Association, said... The negative impacts of the July 5 accident in which nearly 50 were killed are widespread and more serious than previously thought..."
Seriously? How can you underestimate the potential for fallout, unless you are a world class dumbkopf.

The Chinese tend to be very rude travelers. So much so, that the Chinese government is tracking them and will punish those who misbehave while abroad.
I've lived and worked in China and there are a ton of them in Laos vacationing. My experience tells me that Thailand should be quite content to be rid of them.

Clearly this is a biased opinion, but whenever I see a guy with tattoos like these I can't help but thinking he's a little messed up to start with. I'm not anti-tattoo by any means, I have a few. However, none are visible even when I have short pants and a short sleeved shirt on.

My guess is that there may very well be a surge in a need for ESL teachers, especially around Chang Rai.
This is the best feel good story I have heard in many years.

the problem probably is that were 104 people on board in that boat, looking right now at the proportions of the men standing on the bridge IMHO were far too much people...
Agreed, 104 people on that boat would be seriously crowded.

I would like to say a gigantic thank you to the Thai authorities in this case. We know, for better or worse, how the locals around here tend to eschew foreign advice and go things alone. It's a matter of pride and I get it. Asking for help, or accepting that help which has been offered, too often has connotations of losing face because of the thoughts that locals haven't got what it takes to get the job done.
This is a beautiful example of international cooperation working perfectly and gives me hope that it will become a learning experience that will grow and flourish into the future.

I believe the universal health care is for the citizens of those particular countries only. Universal health care for tourist also ?
I always obtain travel insurance when I travel.
Of course there is no universal health care for tourists. That idea is absurd in the extreme. Universal health care is for a country's citizens. Unless, of course, you're in Canada as an ex ISIS terrorist or an illegal alien, then you're covered as well.

" A sore throat sets you back about 3000 baht. " 90usd
It is the same price as in most Western countries.
I find this challenging to believe. 32 of 33 Western countries have universal health care. The USA is the lone exception.

This is exactly the type of thinking that holds Thailand back, or more precisely a certain section of Thai society back.
While this is true, it's also the type of thinking that gives Thailand and Laos their certain special je ne sais quoi that endears both countries to my heart to the point I will never leave and haven't missed Canada for one single second in 13 years.

First, a huge congratulations to all. Amazing effort of international cooperation with speed and finesse and both creative and critical thinking.
Just wondering where Canada was in all this? Probably making preparations to welcome another bunch of terrorists no doubt.

Woke up this morning to my wife dancing around in delight. This is the best news I have heard for a long time. I truly believed it would end this way. I don't know why, but I felt 100% certain the boys were still alive and okay.
Here's the story (fable) my wife told me.
About 300 years ago there was a beautiful daughter of a king who wanted to marry a poor man. The king forbade her but she married him anyway. The king sent his soldiers to kill the husband, which they did. The daughter, in distress, killed herself and bestowed her body to the mountain and her blood the water. The powerful monk leader who came 3 days ago and said the boys are still alive and you'll find them in 3 days is the reincarnation of the princess' husband.
So there you have it.

A guy I know said he heard the chief of police was there recently demanding to see the permits of the rescuers for their rights to be there working. Can anyone else confirm or categorically deny this.
It sounds insane and ridiculous, but being as it's Thailand, not out of the question.
