" A sore throat sets you back about 3000 baht. " 90usd
It is the same price as in most Western countries.
I find this challenging to believe. 32 of 33 Western countries have universal health care. The USA is the lone exception.

This is exactly the type of thinking that holds Thailand back, or more precisely a certain section of Thai society back.
While this is true, it's also the type of thinking that gives Thailand and Laos their certain special je ne sais quoi that endears both countries to my heart to the point I will never leave and haven't missed Canada for one single second in 13 years.

First, a huge congratulations to all. Amazing effort of international cooperation with speed and finesse and both creative and critical thinking.
Just wondering where Canada was in all this? Probably making preparations to welcome another bunch of terrorists no doubt.

Apparently it was true.

Woke up this morning to my wife dancing around in delight. This is the best news I have heard for a long time. I truly believed it would end this way. I don't know why, but I felt 100% certain the boys were still alive and okay.
Here's the story (fable) my wife told me.
About 300 years ago there was a beautiful daughter of a king who wanted to marry a poor man. The king forbade her but she married him anyway. The king sent his soldiers to kill the husband, which they did. The daughter, in distress, killed herself and bestowed her body to the mountain and her blood the water. The powerful monk leader who came 3 days ago and said the boys are still alive and you'll find them in 3 days is the reincarnation of the princess' husband.
So there you have it.

Hormans? Who would they be? Mormon women with questionable morals?

A guy I know said he heard the chief of police was there recently demanding to see the permits of the rescuers for their rights to be there working. Can anyone else confirm or categorically deny this.
It sounds insane and ridiculous, but being as it's Thailand, not out of the question.

The Kinks were a vastly underrated band. Celluloid Heroes was my favourite song by them.

Looks like it's back to politics for Jerry. On the upside, precedent has been set.

So a seven-day overstay equals seven days in the Bangkok Hilton, deportation and a ban for life?
Sounds like a perfectly reasonable idea to me!
I personally think that might be going a little too soft on these despicable criminals...I'm all for a Duterte-like extra-judicial execution of these vagabonds.
Regards, Henry Root
I cannot see any reason barring the outrageous for ever having an overstay. The outrageous being you're in a coma or some such thing.

Thais and their yaba, guns and knives. Pray to whomever you pray to that flakka never arrives.

700 baht.....what's that? $17???
Shocking.

Here's an idea. If you're caught on an overstay, you get jail time equivalent to the overstay and then deported and banned for life.

Dude looks like he hasn't a care in the world sitting at that desk. As mentioned above, he's very likely connected and that's possibly how he got his job. Looks like he'll be home in time for dinner.

The bike is well balanced. Apparently she hasn't driven over too many curbs to get around traffic.

I have such a burning hatred for lawyers I loved this video. I have more respect for crackwhores and used car salesmen than lawyers. Apparently more respect for Thai cops now too! ?

Seems to me that is a lot of money for a nose job. But, getting 40,000 baht for a kind deed is pretty cool. That'll cover his mia noi's expenses for a while.

Some posters seem to be ignoring the operative word here: illegal.
No sympathy from me whatsoever. I'm an immigrant, nice and legal and it was a pain jumping through all the hoops, especially the red tape and time to get married.

I've been teaching for over 13 years now and and one thing that most schools do which I disapprove of is the 1-year contract. Is there a reason a teacher cannot just get hired?
I finally have a teaching job now, after working the trenches for so long, which is professional. I have a job, there is no contract and nothing to get signed year after year at the owner's whim.
The last school I worked at got overrun by Filipinos. Generally, their English abilities were substandard. Their grammar was tragic and their pronunciation was poor.

Who has, or needs, 5 dogs? I don't get it. Especially when so many dogs here are the yappy kind. I hate that and I hate them and I condemn the owners for putting me through hell with their inconsiderate attitudes.
Thank the gods for the occasional village visit by Vietnamese in the middle of the night.

Of course there is no universal health care for tourists. That idea is absurd in the extreme. Universal health care is for a country's citizens. Unless, of course, you're in Canada as an ex ISIS terrorist or an illegal alien, then you're covered as well.
