  1. I am surprised that you are surprised by the IO's actions. The first principle of entry requirements is that you have the visa that is appropriate to your circumstances. VE or TV are not suitable for someone living in Thailand or making regular visits to see their Thai wife.
  2. Wombat & Kiwi bar
  3. I have joined the sourdough bread bandwagon.
  4. That is all you need to know at this stage. Ignore the potential for future issues, or prepare for the possibilty. I don't give a toss what you choose to do, I have made adequate provision for the unlikely event that the UK banks may take a tougher stance on expat accounts during my lifetime..
  5. I have only witnessed similar events in Scotland - where there is arguably a stronger daytime drinking culture.
  6. Lots of them were there? Which part of England was this?
  7. You have been here long enough to know that it was your fault. Rule 1: Expect the unexpected Rule 2: never try and cross the Sukhumvit Road unless via footbridge.
  8. Not tricky......................it is simply not possible to open an account with a mainstream bank.
  9. Don't treat him like a fool....................or you could be wearing the dunce's hat.
  10. It has happened. There have been threads on here in which it has been reported. So - YES - it has been shown to be correct. HOWEVER, at the moment it is not widespread and I have not seen one bank come out and state that it is their policy to close non-resident accounts....... Another HOWEVER, you cannot open a new UK bank if you not UK resident. Take that concept a stage further and a logical next step would be to attack low-hanging fruit i.e. existing accounts with an overseas address - or where non-residency has been declared. Compliance is the reason cited by the banks, or more specifically "much higher costs of compliance" where non-resident accounts are concerned. Everyone should have a WISE account as a back up.
  11. A very good example of where it really doesn't matter 🙂 Hopefully, you will make plans (in the due course of time) so your wife can access those funds without having to go to court.
  12. I just question why someone would sign a document (that disperses their assets) without knowing what it said. (that is not intended as a criticism of you, just an observation).
  13. So you couldn't actually read what you were signing? I have heard that is an issue with amphur Wills.
  14. The Will was presumably written in Thai ?
  15. Couldn't have been - you replied to it........................
  16. Not for your use. The idea is to speed up the immigration and I, for one, applaud the progress. It made a huge difference the last time I exited Bangkok. If I want to track my travel I can do it without the need for stamps in my passport. Same is true for Thais, traveling to the UK, they are not stamped out but their travel record can be obtained from airline records - these details are equired for subsequent UK visa applications.
  17. You make a good point; zero-immigration is neither achievable - nor desirable. However, there does need to be reset and greater focus on attracting immigrants that do have that positive impact on the economy - and, in the case of nursing, haulage catering (and any other industry with a skills shortage) there should be a fast-track system.
  18. I think you have that the wrong way round. Everyone that I know wants to be 10 years younger.
  19. That was about the level that I was alluding to.
  20. They do indeed exist....... although I would agree that they are in a minority.
  21. That is akin to saying that a landlord is responsible for submitting a TM30. Guess who gets the fine for non-compliance. If I was a bank (and responsible for logging this information) I would just close the account of any awkward b4stard, who didn't respond, and send them a cheque for their balance.
