I don't want to leave anything. With a slow death like cancer , there is enough time. With quick death like stroke or accident (thailand !!) or heart attack , there is no time , and that worries me a lot !

You suggested in your post that you had assets - and were concerned  "About assets , I can't take steps to ensure where they go."

Now you say that you don't want to leave anything - so what is your issue should you not encounter a slow death?

It's not unreasonable at all to consider ones own mortality, especially when you reach 70 or so. I'm surprised by some of the responses here, it sounds like the OP struck a nerve, well done for making people think.

Hmmm, fair sentiment but I doubt that the OPs motive was to make people think.

If he can't cope in a working life without producing this bu11sh!t, he ain't gonna stand a chance when he gets to retirement.

Fact is, none of us are going to get out of this adventure alive  -  so make the most of the journey, and whatever you have left.

I'm 15 minute away.  What did you like about Pakse?  i find it a boring dirty place.  Paksong - just 50k away from Pakse is incredibly beautiful.

Went 2 or 3 times about 10/12 years ago.  I quite liked the feel of Pakse and I liked the French colonial feel of the old Champasak Grand (I think, stayed Champasak Palace on a later visit). Nothing special about the town and it did dingy areas (then so do several places in Cambodia).

As I said, we found enough to do for 3 days by traveling around the area.

It's been a decade, but Pakse is mostly a stopover en route to the deeply hippy 4,000 islands. I watched a YouTube recently, not much new.

Not even a one day town. You can prob still grab cab out to an Animist village where all the tree's have back strings on them.

Ylang Ylang is available in the market for low $$$'s. Coffee from The Bolivan Plateau is some of the best I ever drank.

I found enough to do on a 3 day stay. ....including a temple visit, lunch on the river, a visit to an ethnic village and the Bolaven Plateau.

Being alone does not mean I can't contact "outside" help.  If you are completely helpless , you may have hundreds friends or family , but you can't contact them either.

About assets , I can't take steps to ensure where they go.

I don't understand your last comment. I can't think of many situations where the owner of assets cannot control where they go.

Another thing I don't understand . What does it matter if I'm dying alone or some family member or friend is there with me ?

I'm more worried about the assets I leave behind.

Depends how long it takes you to die; depends whether you want someone to administer pain killers when you are writhing in agony and can't get off your ar5e, let alone get to the medicine cabinet. I am not trying to build a case for not being alone, I am just suggesting that people picture the potential end game. If they haven't already taken steps to ensure where/how their assets are going after death then they probably haven't considered that.

yes another good point....  dying oneself... so what...  but loved ones mourniong, missing and your affairs left behind to sort out... not nice... if you love them clean up your <deleted>

Makes me think about wills here in TH .. after you have gone you cant come back to fix things up if its not correct.... a dilema... I guess best is complete POA to someone...

    PoA ceases on death.

A Will is certainly worth thinking about. First think about what you want to happen to your assets and take from there. I have seen oved ones lose out on a lot of money because that didn't happen.

So how many Expats do you think are in Thailand and receive either a partial pension or a full pension?

If you are right then it means they we will all have to lodge a tax return and claim that under the DTA our pensions are not taxable in Thailand.

And what do you recommend we do if the Thai RD decides that I/we are wrong, and/or that the 'evidence' we provided is insufficient, and they decide that I/we must pay income tax?

Have you examined the appeals process against a Thai RD decision? I have (planning for worst case) - and it is horrendously difficult - besides being only acceptable in Thai (with multiple and certified translations), it would cost a lot of money hiring an acceptable Thai lawyer/.accountant to compile and lodge that appeal, and from what I could find, they are extremely reluctant to agree that they were wrong.

Plus - what about if the money I bring into Thailand is from multiple sources - how do I or anyone prove that x amount is pension, y amount is savings, z amount is superannuation, etc.  If you still cannot see how complicated and difficult this would be for most Expats, then we have nothing to talk about.

You do seem to be unnecessarily devoting an inordinate amount of time to this subject.

    One liners without any argument.

Seems someone is heavily invested in Thailand. Enjoy your tax returns!

    Au contraire.

Not invested in Thailand at all.  What I spend in Thailand is from cash flow and once spent has gone - whether it be a house, car or monthly expenditure.

I will never complete a tax return in Thailand. Period.

Not sure about that calendar image I think that was from the old site's/app's user's guide?

Here, the User's Guide for the new system says...

Submit a request in advance before the due date for the next report within 15 days.

    https://tm47.immigration.go.th/manual/IndexForeign.html

    https://tm47.immigration.go.th/tm47/#/login

Thank you very much for that. The last link I have used for a couple of years.

The first link is very informative, and detailed. It supports my point (and therefore evidence for my friend) - but it doesn't explicitly state 15 days up to the due date; yes, I fully accept that it does say "Submit a request in advance before the due date for the next report within 15 days" - and that is good enough for me.

However, I am dealing with friends where a beer often rests on being able to prove something right or wrong. I just know those friends will say.... "Ah yes, it says within 15 days but it doesn't say you can do it in the last 7 days"....I know, change my friends. Ironically, that old calendar does show a tick for all 15 days.

Thanks again, I really like that first link.

    Guys,

I am trying to find decent mens shirts, ideally made in 100% Cotton as they are lighter and cooler in this humidity. All I seem to see wherever I go is these lumberjack type pattern check shirts, I tried one or two Tailors but they want 1500bt and up which I am not prepared to pay for an everyday shirt. Where are you guys getting your shirts? I also looked on Lazada but their sizing is obviously Asian and too small. I need about 46 chest. in a plain color or may be something other than damn check.

    Any suggestions and help ?

    Thanks

Where are you based?  I pay 800 Baht for tailored shirts (used to be 600 Baht).

It's 14 days before the due report date, until the due report date.

If your 90 day was due on a Wednesday, then the first day you can submit online is the Wednesday two weeks beforehand.

It's up to 6 days after the due date in person only.

    Thank you @Liquorice.

Do you have a link to that Immigration page - then I can file it for future reference.

I am not being intentionally lazy but I have searched for ages to find the exact reference point without success. It is amazing how many people are still quoting 15-7 days before - including Key Visa website.

You've been here long enough to know there are many sets of rules that apply to different nationalities and different means of inbound/outbound transportation. No farang retiree is going to go back to the UK for a holiday and walk across the border at Poipet, Immi/RD worked that out already.

    I would

Siem Reap is only a couple of hours away.
