  1. Oh dear! This is a great example of why socialism doesn't work. For whatever reason, and absolutely no criticism of samburn, people are not equal and never can be. Whatever has happened in our lives brings to here; and, yes, 800k is not a lot to expect to have accumulated after a 'lifetime' of work. I didn't have that when I first came here and it was a financial struggle, but I knew that, with plans I had made, it would come good. If someone can't afford to be here, then they shouldn't be here. If they can afford to live here but can't satisfy the immigration requirements there are workrounds available.
  2. I suggest that you start the transfers a month earlier if you you are likely to apply for your NEXT extension up to 30 days beforehand. I now automatically transfer 65k on the first day of very month (they like that) with other monies transferred as and when required. For Jomtien I had to get a form of certification from Kasikorn Bank.
  3. Live with it, and chill out. It is not a new phenomenon.
  4. I did that this year. Be aware that Immigration (in Jomtien) will first check that you have complied with the terms of approval of the previous extension (ie terms relating to the 800k) THEN they will check for compliance with the 65k pm coming in foe the preceding 12 months. As you can see, it is a double whammy because you have to comply with BOTH requirements for that 12 month period
  5. LOL... No apology needed, you were not the only one. It is strange how similar words can get stuck in our minds.
  6. I think you mean OMRON. Omicron is a variant of SARS-CoV-2 first reported to the World Health Organization by the Network for Genomics Surveillance in South Africa on 24 November 2021.
  7. No, there are not - not for expats.
  8. Ha Ha. My pension is from 31 years with HSBC. These days I doubt that past employment counts for anything; if I should ever manage to get through and actually talk to anyone I doubt that they would recognise that the third digit of my bank accounts is a "9" (identifying as a 'staff account').
  9. I would like to see evidence of the "No's". A WISE account has a UK sort code and account number so there should be no barrier to a pension provider remitting it there. At one time JCB pension fund refused to remit funds to a Thai bank account; WISE was the solution to that.
  10. That's a bit harsh on the Welsh......................
  11. I opened a Starling account (I think when in the UK, not sure), they closed it. A friend in Thailand ran a UK online business through Starling, they closed it.
  12. Where are you? Manstons produce and sell mainly in the Pattaya area. All local expat food shops locally stock them. That means you can also buy them online from places like Siamsburies. Not sure if you can buy direct, you would need to contact Matt or Joe. https://www.facebook.com/ManstonFoodsThailand/?locale=en_GB
  13. MAKRO in Surin didn't have any earlier this year - there was a shortage.
  14. You will not last long in Thailand applying that sort of logical reasoning.
  15. LOL????.....I like to mix up my sayings..... I could have said orgy in a brewery........
  16. Personally, no. But, I could very easily be wrong and my current optimism could be driven by my belief that the Thai authorities could not organise a p!ss up in a brothel Scaremongering and fantasy, is my view, fuelling the paranoia of expats with too much time on their hands so they look for demons where not exist. I am not wasting a minute of my time on the subject, nor will I lose a second of sleep over it. They can do what they like and I will respond accordingly. Let me day this - not one Satang of my money will be paid in tax, on my UK income, to the Thailand authorities. I can't even get a pink card (don't want one now) so I am buggered if I am going to accept a tax number. If the ultimate outcome is that I feel forced out of Thailand, so be it.
  17. I wondered if you might make an appearance and comment on sausage making....????
  18. I don't give posting directions - don't make false accusations. Torquayfan was right - these days you really are beginning to sound like you got out of the wrong side of the bed.
  19. Stop flogging this dead horse! You are starting to sound Puritanical. When giving dual correspondence I don't know/didn't know whether I would non-UK resident. I wouldn't give a flying fart anyway - as you said, it is not illegal. I would never criticise my non-UK resident friend who just applied, and succeeded, on opening an 8% yielding savings account with Nationwide. Part of the declaration is that you are UK resident for tax purposes. I also applied for this excellent savings account.
  20. Yes, of course, that makes absolute sense. My comment was about the difference between needing one - and wanting one. You can do without if have a pseudo bank is all you need for receiving and remitting funds. The bottom line is that any expat should (IMO) open a WISE account as a back up to whatever they currently have in the UK. If WISE is all they finish up with the things should at least be workable. Also, prior to departing the UK shores, get a stand alone credit card from the likes ofTESCO, Sainsbury, Virgin etc
  21. Why would you need a card if you just need to use WISE as a money transfer facility. I do have one but, like 'noobexpat' I set it up from the UK. It doesn't need to be a bank. It is a financial technology company and that is good enough to receive funds, exchange them and remit them to a Thai bank account.
  22. OK, this is how it goes down.......................... "Hi bank, I just need to update my address details. Now that I am retired I like to travel a bit - especially to avoid the worse of the British winters, so I often head to Spain or further afield like Thailand. My UK address is XYZ, which is my house/my daughter's house/my sister's house which is where I want all my correspondence sent. However, if I am in Thailand during the winter I may need something sent out to me so could you please note the correspondence address ABC, which is where I stay when I visit the Far East "
