  1. Texxan, a tourist visa or a visa-exempt may indeed be not sufficient prove for your employer.

If you happen to own a property it may be possible to hand them a copy (with a legalized translation) of your house registration or rental contract and accompanied by a residence statement from your embassy.

You stated in your post that you're close to retirement; you could consider a retirement visa with a multiple re-entry permit.

That will at least show that you are allowed to reside in Thailand legally.

  2. If I would like to obtain a res cert from my embassy (Netherlands), they check whether you have officially "checked out" in the Netherlands.

Therefore I had to get a resume from the authorities in the Netherlands.

I think that the Land & Transport office (licenses and vehicle registration) only accept Thai res cert's.

    There are several options:

    - begging immigration to submit 3 res cert's ($$$$)

    - next time you come to Thailand, obtain a O-A visa in your home country; you will probably get a 90-day single entry, but at least you will be able to apply for a res cert.

  3. At Jomtien (Chonburi Immigration Branch) there is nothing needed at all.....90 day reports are being dealt by the computer.

Just the passport and the white/blue slip you got last visit.

Maybe the extra copy was needed for either the 90-day extension or the personal info form.

Last option is that they will ask every "customer" for some extra copy in order to keep the copy business running which probably belongs to one of the officer's relatives.

  4. So the tunnel-project was and is nothing more than a huge money-pit, creating some extra pension for the leaving city-council?

The #7 project will be finished around the same time as the tunnel. Too bad, because it will never be proved that the tunnel was and is a huge waste of money and that it is actually the #7-project that gives Pattaya some "air".

  5. I went to Sor beach in Sattahip yesterday to see a big red sign stating no foreigners. Talked to the guy manning the gate and he stated that is what his boss wanted. The beach is on Army/Navy land.

Oops, that's news. Usually it was accessible after showing a passport.

    Bummer.

  6. As a comparison.......in the city where I am now, there was a football-championship celebration last weekend.........in 2 days (2 x 1/2 days actually) 100,000 people produced approx. 70,000 kg of garbage...........artificial teeth and sofa's included.

And that's supposed to be a civilized city offering accommodation to Philips, ASML and the HighTechCampus, but it's impossible to have so many bins for this amount of garbage..........not here, not in Pattaya, not where ever.

  7. 1) police do allow for self defence

    2) however, any case of someone slapping or hitting someone does indeed incur a 500 baht fine

    3) I personally do not believe this story as it is told

Self defense is taking care that you are not being slapped by protecting yourself.

In our humble opinion, taking the other out is seen as self defense, but obviously in Thailand it's just an attack.

So the police probably told the foreign couple that they were right apart from slapping the LB........that'll cost you THB 500

  8. An advice to the Thais commenting on Facebook.

You should be more concerned and examine your culture and habits before being so upset about 2 naked people.

Look into the domestic violence, rape of minors, abandonment of children and families and other wrongdoings, happening daily in your country and then start worrying about this.

    Hypocrisy, comes to my mind.

    You're so right Costas.

I've been checking the "youlike" videos on Facebook; girls dancing obscene........barely dressed, gangs fighting, people beaten up, shootings, accidents, but of course.........everyone in the youlike-videos were Thai.

It's disgusting that a peaceful new year celebration causes so much violence, but what is better then to distract attention by focussing on 2 "naked" farangs enoying themselves.

    Bunch of brainless hypocrites.

  9. That's something for Prayut and his mates.........bring back Songkran to the original dates of 13, 14 and 15 April.......PERIOD!!!

<deleted>......start on the 11th and finish on the 19th!!!

Nothing to do with Prayut - short of closing the bars I dont see how he could stop the madness that is confined to a single city. A city which just happens to consider corruption a virtue - money talks, joe, simple as that.

Not only Pattaya Worldwide, its all over Thailand. In a couple of years April will be Songkran month with a kick off on Shakkri day (6-4)
