  1. "I hereby declare bitcoin illegal".

    There goes your money..................

Don't think that will happen, wait until bitcoin gets out of the incredible small niche, if ever."

If you want some bitcoin anyway try to "mine" some. If you have a computer with decent hardware it is doable.

I have no doubt there will be a point where the US and China try shutdown Bitcoin as the concept fundamentally threatens a government's ability to control it's own economy, but I don't see how they would be able to? There will always be countries were is it not illegal, and bitcoins can be exchanged to fiat currency in that country.

  2. USD however you can carry in your pocket and buy a cold beer and a grilled yak in a remote area of Mongolia whereas the chap who owns bitcoins, stashed away on virtual cloud nine, goes thirsty and hungry.

In the future it may not be the case.

For example lets say you walk into your local bar in Mongolia in 20 years time, you may end up handing your barkeeper nothing more than a piece of paper with a privatekey written on it. You could setup lots of addresses with various denominations of coins so as to be able to hand out several keys to make up the exact total due. If the recipient would trust you enough to write a check, there is no reason that they would trust you enough for this method.

But course this point is probably moot as I'm assuming in 20 years mobile internet will be available everywhere, and paying your bill will be just scanning a barcode with your mobile.

  3. The whole concept of bitcoins just blows my hair back, and I want to be a part of it, I really believe the concept could change money as we know it.

Ok it's still very early days and the currency is still volatile (hence the wide buy/sell spread mentioned above), but I'm thinking about accepting it as a viable alternative payment method for ecommerce transactions, especially if I convert the BTC to THB within a day or 2 of the transactions. If i charge the customer the exchange that that I'm able to get in selling the BTC then I don't see the downside. Of course at this point would be offered along side traditional payment methods.

Even if, for example, I accept a payment for an order of 10BTC (roughly 4000THB) and then overnight someone cracks the bitcoin encryption system and the bottom falls out of the whole currency; all I do is refund the 10BTC to customer and say sorry...can't process your order, here are you (worthless) coins back. Provided that I always convert to THB before shipping goods of course.

And why would someone want to pay in bitcoins you may ask? Well aside from the fact that it's a cool concept with lots of "disciples"; I'd never dream of shipping products to someone in, lets say, Nigeria on a credit card payment, so can't do business with them unless they do costly SWIFT transfers etc...(and even then who knows what clever bank transfer reverse scam they may have figured out); but if they have bitcoins I know the money is irreversible, so would be happy to do business with them.

Anyways; I bought a few bitcoins from bahtcoin.com to test it, and although you have to make a THB ATM transfer to some Russian dude (Stanislav? very sketchy), he delivered my coins within a few hours.

  4. Never been unfaithful/cheated on marriage vows

Not all countries have the same marriage vows.

In Thailand The man makes a vow to protect, the woman makes a vow to serve.

Why are so many expats blinkered by their home countries culture?

Isn't that what we came here to escape from?

I think you may be the one who's wearing blinkers; every Thai girl is familiar with the term "feed it to the ducks"...

  5. I found out they have a working show model at Boonthavorn in Bangna, so went to check it out today.

The pressure from the water and air jets seems very good, and really gets churning, similar to any of the 100K range models. The motor sounds normal and motor/pipes/frame on the underside all look sturdy. It's on special at the moment from 52K to 42K for the air+water jet version, so I ordered mine, probably won't be 3 or 4 months until I actually get it installed though.

It does seem to be one of those "too good to be true" deals though, but I guess I'll find out the hard way.

  6. The one thing I am worried about is that the sales girl was telling us it is poor quality and made in china....of course she was commisioned by Christina brand so I have learned to be wary of helpful sales people trying to hawk their own brand. Also She said that it did not have the same type jets and not really a jaccuzi but more like just tap water pressure. When I asked what the motor was for then i got a famous blank look. Dave I would be VERY interested in hearing more about the working model. Could you PM me with the companies contact info please?

I wouldn't pay much attention to the sales people at Boonthavorn, they have probably never even seen a jacuzzi turned on, let alone got in one. I'll get the contact info from my wife later and PM it.

If I can find the location of a working model I'll post the address here.

  7. Google around - why not just built in a tile tub on an outside wall with pump, filter, and connection space access from outside. It will be 80% cheaper and last 10 times longer. Any maintenance or repair is done from outside the house.

Why not just a get a concrete mixing tub in the driveway and have your mother-in-law fart in it; that'd be a really cheap option.

  8. I'm looking at the exact same model for our house. My wife contacted the company (La belle) and they are getting back to us as to where they have a real (working) show model.

I'll post back here if I'm able to find a real working model as to how good it is.

The price makes me a bit nervous at 35,000K, because it's way cheaper than anything else similar (most range from 60K-100K); I'd hate to get it all installed and find out the motor is absolute rubbish or something.

  9. Just make sure you don't let the builder wear you down to accepting crap work; that's the normal strategy. They will try to convince you "that's just the way it is here" and "Thais accept that", some might, but many wouldn't. You've got the money and don't give it to them until it's done properly.

They'll try to make you feel like you are just a Farang d*ck who doesn't get it, but the truth is a lot of Thais can be real <deleted> about getting their build down properly, I've heard stories of Thai clients who forced the builders to replace half the laborers because they didn't wye politely enough when they were visiting the site! (And the builder complied!)

Example, here is the front roof of one house I'm in the process of building at the moment, yes it's sloped, and yes they pulling all the tiles off right and re-doing the steelwork, because they're not getting paid until it's straight, and I don't care how much of a douche they think I am, i'll tell them to re-do it 3 or 4 times if I have to.

Just make sure you keep a lot of money withheld for as long as possible.

It's pretty much a daily uphill battle trying to get things done properly, but you just have to keep fighting the good fight.

  10. They'll let you out if you pay a fine and go back for regular testing. If you've got no dosh, you stay in the clink. So I'm told

    Exactly.

We had an employee who did the same thing. Tested positive (outside of work) got banged up in jail for 3 or 4 days, then he came up with the fine money and he got out. But had to go back for weekly testing for quite a few months though.

  11. There are lots of half-arsed jerry-built websites around, especially in SE Asia. It's a wonder that more aren't hacked. I suppose the hackers cant be bothered either!

All the hackers do is write a script to detect sites running software with vulnerabilities, then automatically exploit the security hole to paste in whatever code they want (ie a porn link or whatever they are currently being paid to promote). The chances are the hackers have never even visited the homepro website themselves.

  12. lol, wow homepro are dumb, look at this code on their site, it's loaded with porn links:

  13. you can be free anywhere, even in prison.

I hope you've been in prison for some years to have the balls to say that.

if your sitting somewhere thinking about your freedom, you are in enclosed walls in your mind.

i have spent 6 months in complete solitary, no release, no contact, food dropped at the door as a monk,

Did you do it to better understand the sound of a whisper?
