While I agree that officials who have daily contact with foreigners should have an acceptable level of English understanding, that goes with banks and such departments etc.

However outside of the city centres [where most foreigner and English speaking workers are found] life is not the same, go out into the boonies to a local branch and see what really happens.

Or as a foreigner living here why not try and learn some Thai. Not tourists of course but those with intentions of staying here long term. When I decided to settle I took a 3 month course in Bangkok.

  2. I hope none of you have signed up for all the wallets that some Thai companies, e. g. Lazada, True Money, offer. Far too much information is required for my liking. Lazada in order to give me a refund required my passport. I told them no as they didn't give me theirs when I paid. I'll only be paying them by credit card in future as when something goes wrong refund is back to the cc whereas any other kind of refund goes to the stupid wallet. I hope tney enjoy all the cc fees they'll have deducted.

Uh, actually, all Thais dilute the concrete mix when building.  It flows better so they do not have to do as much work.  I had to fight constantly with my workers when building my house to keep the excess water out of my concrete,  It made them angry.  So why not add a little water to the vaccine?   It is the way here.  It is GETTING the vaccine that counts so you can proudly wear that little sticker; it makes no difference whether it works.  You can't see that.

Same with paint. More thinner than actual paint.

I have to disagree with you on one point; 'better education' !   If this were true we would be seeing a lot more bright and informed young people around by now and i don't see any evidence of that.   Where i live in the North most Kids coming out of School used to be as thick as Planks but seems these days they have moved on to being as thick as Tree's !    They can't show you their own country on a Map; have zero knowledge of the Outside World, can't add up more than their fingers, impossible for them to have a 'sensible' conversation about anything and many can barely speak their own laguage fluently let alone speak any other.   Disgraceful for a country with such a huge Education Budget.

My adopted Thai grandson has just reached 5 years old. He appears to be quite bright and very interested in sea animals, shipwrecks, and botany. Only one language at the moment, Thai, but he uses many English nouns rather than the Thai equivalent. E. G. crab, lobster, jellyfish, cactus.

He'll be starting school as soon as its possible. My hope is that they'll not dumb him down.
