Why didn't the husband have a job? Unless he was very handicapped, there are plenty of jobs out there. Laziness is not considered a handicap. Maybe could get a job he didn't like, or maybe wanted more pay, but I would bet many of us have had to take jobs at some point that weren't ideal and didn't pay what we thought we were worth.
