  1. This situation is due to get very heavy, I have see what is called civil war in Sierra Leone West Africa.

As far as civil war goes there is a long way to go but, how long will it be before severe military force is used to stop this political argument being something that makes Thailand what it is and why so many people love it a no go zone.

    Sad sad sad

  2. Pre-existing conditions are normally excluded but the only way to find out what the Underwriters will offer is to complete the application forms and ask for a proposal.

As a Thai Visa member you can use the services of the Thai Visa Brokers, please go Here

Thank you the input, any more thought would be great

  3. Hi all from UK

Trying to work out what companies to go to for a quote for family health insurance to enable me to live in Thailand with piece of mind, I have the following concerns and wonder if anyone has experienced problems getting cover ?

What I want is accident cover and general illness cover, not necessarily critical illness cover unless simple, but if I was to be hit by a bus, beaten up, fall out of a window ect ect !!!!

I have been under the GP here for years for stress, hypertension and mild anxiety, it is controlled with tablets but still there ?

I have a rare illness called Neurofibromatosis and I can get my operations ect here so do not need it covered and I know they will exclude the illness but is it likely they will turn cover down based on a pre-existing illness ??

Any help on this would be great thank you, for anyone that knows of my illness it is Neurofibromatosis Type1 and it is non cancerous tumours that grow in my spine and they control it with surgery to remove the tumour mass every ten or so years, surgeon were has no problems with my returning as I need for surgery.

  4. Did not know you Swain but I am sure you will RIP, so so sad, respect to the family, I think this type of thing can make us all try to remember to tell our loved ones how much we love them as you just dont know when you might be taken.

  5. I'm living very near ChiangMai with my wife (Thai age 34) and daughter (Thai age 12)

We live in a rented 3 bedroom house in a quiet moobaan aimed mainly at mixed race families

My step-daughter has only recently joined us (from her village) to start at the local Kings school (1 km away from the house)

Not entirely sure what you expect from a school

There are various Kings schools (free)

Dual language schools (80kbht a year)

    International schools (600kbht a year)

My children always go to local schools, if the school isn't very good I teach them any additional requirements.

I don't believe in making my children different to their peers by sending them to elitist schools.

As far as I can see if you want a good school then you don't bring your children to Thailand, all the schools here are educationally poor to very poor (no matter what you pay, just my opinion)

But a child who can speak Thai and English well, will have a big advantage over here, and that's up to you and your Thai wife.

You need to be able to describe what you actully want for your family, busy city life, quiet semi-rural retreat, etc.

ChiangMai seems to be a good place for a family to live, but the moobaans outside have a much quieter atmosphere and a more villagey feel to them. I'm 20km from central CM, takes about 25 minutes to get into the town centre. house rental 2 bed 5500bht, 3 bed 7000bht, 4 bed 10000bht. Wang Taan resort swimming pool 6km in one direction, another pool 2km in opposite direction.

Only this afternoon a 2 year old let himself into my house (half white), closely followed by a 2 1/2 year old Thai from various neighbours houses (almost every house has a white husband and his Thai wife along with assorted rellys). One of their mothers eventually came and got them, after she noticed they had wandered off, but stayed for a while to chat to my Thai mother-in-law and me. No traffic out here, children are safe, the wives wander from house to house during the day, cooking, eating and chatting.

Thank you for the information it is so kind of you to give me some feedback, I am desperate for as much info as possible. Not sure how long I can stick things out here in the Uk, but the most important part of all my plans need to be my little lady Iysha, I fully understand that there is a compromise from Uk educational to Thai school even when a child attends International school, but that said. Here in the Uk we have a good school not amazing but okay, but on the back of that we live in a very rushed and stressed society, I myself have a hard time at work and a hard time to not get absorbed into the rat race of stress and work life here, that in turn does effect our family life and I am sure there is more to life than all that.

Thank you again, more would be good if anyone can help me.

  6. I am planning our an inevitable move to live in Thailand and have concluded that as we have a young daughter who is of school age we will need to choose where we live based on the schools in the area, we had looked at Hua Hin but since finding out the schools do not have much to offer, we are looking at options of other places based on what the schools have to offer. That aside it also needs to depend on if the area its self suits a family. We are me British and 37, wife 32 Thai and my little Iysha is 8 and full of life as most kids are. Wondering what CM is like as a day to day life not a holiday thing. If your a family I would love to hear from you regards how you find it. I have a deep passion to live in Thailand and not sure how long I will be here in the UK. I have my main priority my daughter and her future is of utmost importance to me. Any info would be great, thank you.

  7. Interesting, Hua Hin house owners and property developers seem to be in a world that makes them feel elite and protected against the economic problems surrounding the whole world, might be the power of the Royal Family and the Thai vested interest in Hua Hin that give the comfort levels and confidence, it might take a real hit soon. Hope it will not effect to many people but the one thing it might do is stop the extortionate costs of house, land and businesses. Also who knows it might just pass Hua Hin by the prices there for houses and land and most things are just still rising.

  8. We have just returned home to the Uk after an extended trip in Hua Hin, I notice there is loads of houses that are very expensive considering land space ect and close to other properties, would you buy any where now.

    Exchange rates very low

    Political siituation

    General world wide economy

Lots more to consider also, or is it a time to use the cheap prices as not much is selling and grab a bargain while it is cheap ????????????????

  9. I find that the people who make the most demands upon foreign service offices are the people that pay the least to support the delivery of those services. If you want concierge service, then don't bitch and holler at the government to cut back on spending for the delivery of the services.

Another stupid comment, there are only a handful of people that take your rather unintelligent and need I say rather mad post with any seriousness, I pay more tax than most people earn in a year and this tax goes towards running British embassies world wide to protect and serve the citizens of the uk. Maybe you don't understand the British systems based on your very irrational and stupid post I would guess your a little green when it comes to basic understanding and intelligence. The Embassy is there to support its citizens why should they not support the citizens of the Uk that is the whole point of having a British embassy in each country, are you that short sighted and stupid, embassies are not just to take money for visa's for people wishing to visit the Uk. No wonder there is so little Britishness left in the Uk when there is such thoughts as yours.

  10. The original post was about help from embassy,my airline is hard to contact ,near impossible, im staying away from bankok the airline has offered a blanket on the floor ,The embassy should push the airlines to work together to get citizens home .all i want to know is a near definite date i can go home so to arrange cover mat my employment,i dont need my hand holding i just need a stronger answer than in the next 2 weeks. shame on you (you know who you are) for sending negative comments about the post Ed.this is a rant not a troll ,the original post holds up uk citizens are not taken care of by the tea swilling dont want to get involved type at the embassy

Thank you for your sensible comments, the problem on this forum is that there are lots of varied opinions and each of us are entitled to think as we want, but personally I feel as I said in my original post I feel let down and alone here. Yes I can manage and yes as stupidly pointed out I could just go home ( Not ) but at the once again the British government have done nothing to support it citizens here or anywhere, stuck stranded scared and some people do not even have a visa or money to spend, what a state of affairs, no wonder there is no Britishness left in the our sad little country, proud to be English I do not think so, the place is a disaster and a sham.

Q ) What is there to be proud about being British, what does our government for our Brits when the need help

    A) Simple, nothing let us sort it ourselves and struggle to deal with it..

  11. Sounds good,

90'000.00 after stealth taxes ect and extautionate cost of living what would it leave you with ??

Would you be happy, who is to say guess that depands on what makes you happpy ????

Italy is a very nice countryand they do seem to have some morals still that do keep a good community spirit. Dont know, I dont speak from experience but if I was you I would sit it out here as long as poss, nothing is going to go to shit over night and falangs are not exactly fleeing in drove back home.

    Up to you !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  12. The Royal Navy have dispatched ships to help those stranded on the Continent, get a flight to Portugal or Spain and get the Navy to help you from there.

It was your choice to come here, why should the government hold your hand, feel free to bugger off at any time. :)

What a silly comment, I pay huge taxes in the Uk carry a British passport that offesr me protection through the world and a right to return to the Uk, the Uk is not supportive to the any of its decent citizen, like my self that contributes to the UK and support the economy by employing hundreds on Brits and anyone else they allow into the country. I am fortunate to not need financial assistance here but for those stranded without money and no support from home, where can they go.

The answer you give unless I am mistaken is to bugger off at any time is not only rather rude but also stupid as there is no way of leaving as the Uk airports are closed, Do you read the news????

Please consider your strange thoughts regards this sensitive matter as rude and insulting to all those people stuck here with nothing they can do.

  13. I am amazed by the lack of support we get from our Uk embassies, the Thais get more support abroad then we do, also the support from Thailand such as relaxing visa dates is the only help I have had. No great surprises really here but it shows why most Thais are patriotic to Thailand. It took Europe five days to arrange talks on the situation on all airports being closed, crazy Uk government usual poor support and care of citizens.

See below the support offer to Thais stuck abroad, shame we Brits don't get this support, the only thing my embassy has told me is that they can give me a telephone number to call to find out how to get a western money union transfer if anyone want to send me money from home and to keep in touch with the airline, before the good hearted Thai immigration offer support with overstay the Embassy suggested I was go and sort out my own visa problem and extend

Support offer to Thais stranded abroad

Thais left stranded in Europe by Iceland's volcanic eruption which has grounded all flights will receive financial assistance until they can return home, the Foreign Ministry says.

Ministry spokesman Vimon Kidchob said yesterday that under Finance Ministry regulations, each Thai embassy could lend money to Thai nationals caught in situations which affect them financially.

If their visas expire while waiting for flights to resume, the embassies will coordinate with the government involved to have the permits extended.

Ms Vimon said it was not known how many Thais had been affected by flight cancellations as the numbers were still being collated. She said assistance could also be provided by the Department of Consular Affairs' Protection of Thai Nationals Abroad Division in addition to the embassies.

Natt Prathuangsuksri, a Thai traveller stranded in Mannheim, Germany, told the Bangkok Post yesterday she had no idea when she would be able to return to Thailand as airline customer service departments were hard to contact.

She said she had travelled across eastern Europe from Germany to the Czech Republic, Hungary and Austria.

Apart from cancelled flights and the uncertainty of the situation, some passengers, including herself, would soon have expired visas.

Ms Natt said when flights were suddenly cancelled, no passengers received any help from their embassies or the airlines. They had to pay all their expenses themselves.

More than 10,000 THAI passengers are stranded in Bangkok and about 2,500 overseas.
