  1. :o Dont believe that the price has gone up. :D

The thing is called a HA baht Bus ....ha-ha-ha-ha-Baht Bus...ie 5 bt.

I use the 116 from T-parak to Silom which is about 20 Kms and the fare is also ha baht.....and worth it.

For some strange reason a lot of people seem to be under the impression the Pat mafia charabang is is sip baht ..ie 10 baht.......to quote Charlie Drake.....I dont knoooo Whyyyy. :D

Can anyone imagine getting on the no 29 in london (fare £1-20) and trying to force the driver to take £2-40?.Go on mate take the extra dosh it s a tip for you and your family ...will help pay for your new 42 inch Plasma digital Tv set.

In fact ...heres a fiver ...dont worry about the change....all ..and to compare all for a 3 minute ride in a rusty old 2 bench delapidated pick up along the equiv.of a dust track impersonating  a road. :D

Everyone remembers the old tourist who was told at breakfast in his hotel that the fare was 5...five...

It  was only afterwards did he realised why the driver was so happy and even gave him back a thousand baht change.  :D

......Did he give him the change after he had dropped him off in Central Rd??Ha-Ha. :D

  2. Does anyone know where the Mountain Beach Hotel is?  I presume with a name like that it is on the Hill between Jomtien and Pattaya.  If it is its pretty poor showing by the police - that area only has two roads into it and a 24 hr police box is where both the roads meet.  Add to this the fact that one of the Royal Family has her palace there, does not exactly lend much confidence to the ability of the police to control who goes up and down these roads.

Yes you are right it is in moo 12 which leads down from the police box.

  3. In the dead of summer a fly was resting on a leaf beside a lake.

A hot, dry fly, who said to no-one in particular, "Gosh.....if I go down three inches, I will feel the mist from the water and I will be refreshed."

There was a fish in the water thinking, Gosh.....if that fly goes down three inches I can eat him."

There was a bear on the shore thinking, "Gosh....if that fly goes down three inches......that fish will jump for the fly...and I will eat him."

It also happened that a hunter was farther up the bank of the lake preparing to have a cheese sandwich. "Gosh," he thought..."if that fly goes down three inches....and that fish leaps for it....that bear will expose himself and grab for the fish. I`ll shoot the bear and then have a proper trophy."

You probably think that this is enough activity for one bank of a lake, but...I can tell you there was more....

A wee mouse by the hunter`s foot was thinking, "Gosh....if that fly goes down three inches....and that fish jumps for that fly....and that bear grabs for that fish....the dumb hunter will shoot the bear and drop his cheese sandwich."

A cat lurking in the bushes took in this scene and thought, as was fashionable to do on the banks of this particular lake around lunchtime, "Gosh....if that fly goes down three inches...and that fish jumps for that fly....and the bear grabs for the fish....and that hunter shoots that bear....and that mouse makes off with the cheese sandwich....then I can have mouse for lunch."

The poor fly is finally so hot and so dry that he heads down for the cooling mist of the water....

    The fish swallows the fly....

    The bear grabs the fish.....

    The hunter shoots the bear....

The mouse grabs the cheese sandwich.....

The cat jumps for the mouse......

    The mouse ducks.....

The cat falls into the water and drowns.

The moral of the story is....

Whenever a fly goes down three inches....

Some pu*ssy is probably in danger.

  4. There`s nothing worse than a snooty doctor`s receptionist who insisits that you tell her what is wrong in a room full of other patients....I know most have experienced this, and I love the way this old guy handled it.

An 86 year old man walked into a crowded doctor`s office. As he approached the desk, the receptionist said, "Yes sir, what are you seeing the doctor for to-day?"

"There`s something wrong with my d*ick, " he replied.

The receptionist became irritated and said, "You shouldn`t come into a crowded office and say things like that."

"Why not? You asked me what was wrong and I told you," he said.

The receptionis replied, "You`ve obviously caused some embarrasment in this room full of people. You should have said there is something wrong with your ear or something and then discussed the problem further with the doctor in private."

The man replied, "You shouldn`t ask people things in a room full of others if the answer could embarrass anyone."

The man walked out, waited several minutes and then re-entered. The receptionist smiled smugly and asked, "Yes?"

"There`s something wrong with my ear," he stated.

The receptionist nodded approvingly and smiled, knowing he had taken her advice. "And what is wrong with your ear, Sir?"

I can`t p*iss out of it," the man replied.

The doctor`s office erupted in laughter.

    Nothing worse than ear-ache!

  5. Thaiflyer missed that sorry, however think you will find he is doing it most days now though as it has become so popular.

Yeah i/m going to give him a go in March.......nothing against Five Star visa runs they do an excellent service, its just Poi-Pet.

I saw an advertisement a few months ago where a boat was operating from Pattaya and where you could have a pleasant day sailing and obtain a visa while in International waters off Thailand and be back the same day.

Does anyone know anything more about this? i.e. cost etc.

  6. I am not a coffee afficionado, but I would check out the appliance shop

inside the Carrefour building, just to the left fo Carrefour itself.

If they don't have what you need, no-one does.

....... If you wish to grind your own coffee beans you can buy the small hand grinders from the sit up to coffee bar in Tops Supermarket....I think they cost about Bt 1600. :o

  7. Sabaii Lodge soi 2 - any thoughts?

mmm, a friend of mine ran that place a few years ago..... buy me a beer or 10, and I will tell the stories, but NOTHING for the public domain.

I recommend Flipper in Soi 7 Value and proximity. :D

Also has a sister hotel Flipper Lodge located in soi 8 with deluxe seaview rooms. Both these hotels are "guest friendly" and no "joiner fee" Approx cost Bt 1000 per night.

Just be careful that if you book into Flipper Lodge with a seaview room that you get the room which you have booked. They have been known to put people into the Flipper House rooms in Soi 7 without seaview even though the Flipper Lodge was booked. :o

  8. I would like to ask advice from the Pattaya Expats of returned holiday makers.

Im looking for a Hotel with a gym, pool, no fees for overnight stay for "friends" (for my mate ofcourse), centrally located and a great breakfast. Price = value for money.

    what is your thoughts?

You will find that most of the hotels with three and four star ratings will charge you a "joiner" fee for taking a friend back for the evening. These fees range from Bt 500 upwards.

You mentioned the Sabai Lodge which is situated in Soi 2 and has a sister hotel called Sabai Inn which is situated across the road.

The Sabai Lodge offers excellent value for money. It has modern accommodation with a good swimming pool and is located down the Soi from the popular bar complex area and therefore the noise is not a problem. The staff are friendly and helpful.

As far as I am aware they do not charge a "joiner" fee but will of course charge for breakfast if orderered for your friend.

Location is good with plenty of entertainment in the immediate area and soi 2 is situated across the road from the large Big C complex which has numerous retaurants, cafe bars and a supermarket.

It has never taken any longer than 10 minutes for me to get by baht bus from soi 2 to Walking Street which is situated at the end of Beach Road. It takes about 5 minutes by baht bus to get to the bars in Naklua which is at the Northern end of Pattaya and where you will also find some good entertainment. :o

  9. Songkhran in Patters is vile. It has become a bastardisation of the festival. There is no let up at all during the festivities usually from <deleted> in pick up trucks who wouldn't know the meaning of Songkhran if it bit them on the ar5e.

If it were only one day it wouldn't be so bad but it get tiresome after that..............

I have to agree...now they are using powerful vaccuum pumps and the barrels of dirty water seem to get bigger every year........ If you are riding a motorcyle and get the full force of a jet of water in your face then it could be lethal.......best to hibernate for a few days.....

  10. A man took his wife to the County Show and one of the exhibits is that of breeding bulls.

They went up to the first pen and there was a sign that said "This bull mated 50 times last year"

The wife poked her husband in the ribs and said, "He mated 50 times last year"

They walked a little further and saw another pen with a sign that said "This bull mated 120 times last year".

The wife hit her husband and said, "That`s more than twice a week! You could learn a lot from him".

They walked further and a third pen had a bull with a sign saying, "This bull mated 365 times last year".

The wife got really excited and said,"That`s once a day you could REALLY learn something from this one".

The husband looked at her and said, "Go up and ask him if it was all with the same cow".

sorry, couldnt help responding, but finished work early and wanted to list my complaints and remember:

the grass is always greener on the other side but when goats think that , they go back and forth, dont eat at all, lose weight and die  :o

    :D

Maybe there is a case for large scale desalination plants which could be built in the south. These would be expensive however and security would have to be very strong....

  12. The roadworks on Beach Rd have taken so long now and have been left in such a dangerous state .

Surely it would have been quicker , safer and cheaper to just dig up one side and bury those poxy cables in one go.

The 2m by 1m holes that have been filled with loose fill are unbelievable after it rains.

I was nearly wiped out yesterday going over one of those little surprises, anyone heard of any accidents due to them?

There has been a number of reported accidents mainly due to the poor warning markings or non existent barriers surrounding the diggings. In October a bus got stuck down a large hole which the driver did not see. There has also been a number of motorcycle accidents.

I only hope that the plastic pipes through which the cables and wires are fed are large enough to cope with future needs....otherwise the whole thing will repeat itself and that is the last thing that anybody needs.

  13. It must have been very poorly advertised, but there has been a western style funfair in Pattaya this week, excellent looking rides. There was a few farang working on it.

I asked one guy from the UK he said they are up in Bangkok next, then on to Singapore.

Oh dear....it`s nearly as bad as missing the buffalo races.....I guess it`s back to soi 6 then.......At least this circus is well advertised :o

Was there any need for that sarcastic reply, there are plenty of people live in Pattaya that do other things than go to soi 6.Many have family's believe it or not.

My point was this is unlike other funfairs you see in thailand.

And yes,if there where buffalo races in Pattaya it would be worth posting about them.

My advice to you is to be around this forum a little longer than 17 posts before you take the piss.

Don`t be touchy I was not taking the piss as you state...and now that you`ve explained your post a little better i.e that it is unlike other funfairs that you see in Thailand then maybe you will get a broader view of people`s opinions. As for soi 6 why even bother to mention it? and as for the number of posts that is irrelevant.

  14. It took a lot of years and visits to do all that and I enjoyed every moment.  :D What else is there to do in a small village? :D Maybe some of you should get off your barstool and enjoy real Thai life. :o

    NL :D

...It`s usually on the barstool where all this starts...when the gorgeous young lady smiles and flashes those large brown eyes in your direction and the next thing you know you are heading up the highway to the outer reaches of the Kingdom and the refurbishment of the family home comes on the agenda.....oh...and then there`s the washing machine...after of course you`ve upgraded the electrics and put on a new roof....and built a wash house...and don`t forget the new telly, because they won`t....and finally although totally exhausted....but still in love you part with the Bt 60,000 desparately needed by a member of the familiy living in a far off province who is on the brink of death....but it`s really to pay off the family gambling debts.

Yes my friend I have left the bar stool in the past....but now I find it`s the safest place to be. :D

  16. Actor arrested over up-skirt photos in mall

BANGKOK: -- Atthakorn Suwannarat, a 27-year-old actor, was arrested on Friday on suspicion of snapping sneak shots with his mobile-phone camera of a sales assistant’s panties in a Bangkok shopping mall.

Atthakorn reportedly confessed to police that he had taken an up-skirt photo of a saleswoman at The Mall Ngamwongwan.

After she and her co-worker discovered what Atthakorn was up to, they alerted security guards, who seized the actor’s phone as evidence and called police. Atthakorn’s camera contained an up-skirt photo of the saleswoman as well as one of another unidentified woman.

The saleswoman explained that she and her friend had turn-ed round and seen the actor standing beneath them on an escalator, taking the picture.

Later yesterday, however, in addressing the media, Atthakorn denied the allegations. “It was a total misunderstanding,” he said. “Why would I risk my reputation for something like this?”

He conceded that his digital camera did contain up-skirt photos of women’s panties, but claimed that he had no idea how it had turned itself on.

He said his earlier confession to the police had been done in haste only so as to avoid further embarrassment.

According to the 388 Criminal Act, Atthakorn will if found guil-ty be fined Bt500 and required to delete the photos from his camera.

The plaintiff, however, called for Bt30,000 in compensation, and even while he continued to deny culpability, the actor made attempts to renegotiate the sum.

    --The Nation 2005-01-23

He could see a lot more than knickers in the streets of nocturnal delights. He might even cop a feel as well. :D

This person has brought a whole new meaning to the word `Flasher`

I wonder if the plaintiff would get a better price then Bt 30,000 if she sold the pair of unmentionables to the press?. She could ofcourse donate the cash for the rehabilitation of sick photographers. :o

  17. The standards of English in the UK have declined considerably over the last 30 years.

Astral.......... I do not mean to be pedantic about your statement, but I would have written..... The standard of English in the Uk has declined considerably over the last 30 years..........but there again it was a long time ago sice I attended school.. :D:o

  18. Is helping in the rice planting and harvest, net fishing with the locals in rivers, collecting bamboo for the elderly basket makers, collecting bamboo shoots, mushrooms and catching rats, eels and snails for food, assisting villagers building homes, trying to learn fully Thai language, assist in community projects, mixing with the communities and being accepted as a community member by the village elders etc considered as me immersing in Thai life? :o

Yep that would do it :D nice one I'm also pretty "immersed"

I am sure that you would be accepted as a community member by the village elders as long as you were working for them like a dog and presumably for free... I`ll bet they preyed every day for another dozen like you. :D

  19. Thanks Chaps

Getting ice cubes thrown at doesn’t appeal however here in PP it's not nice. I hate it. There’s nothing like a smack in face from a bag of flower, flowed by a shower when I’m driving down the road doing 50 on my Honda Wave. The Khmers are idiots at that time of year.

What I’m trying to get a ‘handle on’ is it worse than here . . .

Also prices and accommodation does the price of hotels and anything other go up and are there rooms available or is booking advised – I’ll arrive a few days before the madness anyway.

    Opinions please Gents

    Sexy Beast

For your information the official dates for Songkran are the 13th to the 15th April, although in some northern and rural areas it goes on for up to a week.

As it is coming towards the quiet season then you should not have problems booking accommodation, but it is always adviseable to book for your first night. :o

  20. I think it was the thai News

i think you must have been watching a movie.

the executioners never saw the face of the prisoner , who was (they dont use firing squads now) standing behind a sheet with the position of the heart marked on it.

If public executions were re-introduced, there'd be queue's lining up for tickets everywhere in the world.

In Saudi they still have public executions. Free admission for everyone so I've witnessed a few beheadings. It breaks the monotony of work; with a can of alcoholfree beer and something to eat it's a day out.

Absolutely barbaric and if anyone goes to watch this on a voluntary basis in order to break the monotony of work then they are sick. I thought that the idea especially in the Middle East was to rid it of barbarism and not promote it.

  21. thanks for all the advice.

i am moving to thailand soon and do not want to wait to get my license back.

it looks like i will need 500 bht. :D

    thanks for all the advice.

now all i need to do is grow eyes in the back of my head for all the crazy drivers out there.

...Yep...and watch out for all the banned ones that are driving around :o

  22. I'm coming to Pattaya for the first time in March. I've had a browse through the forum for suggestions on where to check-out in the evening but couldn't see anything definitive.

I prefer to drink in beer bars, which are the best and where are they located? I enjoy playing pool and I don't mind the odd go-go.

    Suggestions please. Cheers

As your profile states you are from the UK and I presume you are going solo, try the bars on soi's 6, 7 and 8 and around Soi Post office and Soi Yamamoto, These are frequented by guys from the UK, you should get a few tips from those guys.

But, as one guy has said, Walk the street....you will soon find yourself a few bars you like. A good tip is to find a bar near your hotel that serves a bit of nosh and use that as a base bar.....have a meal there before heading out into the night and make it your last port of call for the night till you find your feet.

...The problem with making drinking plans in this great city is that there are so many fabulous distractions that most plans just disappear into the moonlight as exciting new watering holes are found. :o

Jack there are said to be approx 3,000 bars now in and around the Pattaya area.

There is a vast growth of new bars in the rapidly expanding soi Buakhao area and this area is well worth a visit.

Here are three bars which I enjoy.

Atlantic Bar on Second Road between soi 2 and 3. Lots of pool tables.

Chaplins Bar in Soi 3. You can have a good laugh in there with Willie a very genial host. Also has a pool table.

Buffalo Bar on Pattaya Third Road an up market bar and very relaxing.

good look and I`m sure you`ll be telling us of your favourites after your trip. :o
