  1. Thais get a dose of 'nipplegate' saga

'Big breast bras good for people with small brains'

BANGKOK: --  A promotion for breast enhancing cream that involved three models having a 15 minute mammary massage in public has caused a furore in Thailand, with family groups saying it violates traditional values and morality.

Despite Bangkok's racy reputation as the "anything goes" sex capital of south-east Asia, most Thais are uncomfortable with public nudity and all newspaper pictures of the demonstration had the breasts blurred out.

"The campaign is just to promote the product without considering the damage to society," Ladda Thangsupachai of the cultural watch centre told the Nation newspaper on Friday. "This is taking advantage of society and an irresponsible act."

Executives of St Herb, which makes the "breast beautifying" cream, said they laid on the stunt merely to counter suggestions their advertising claims were exaggerated.

The Nation said Ying, one of the models, was embarrassed at having to bare herself in front of the cameras, but did believe her breasts had become firmer and the gap between them smaller as a result of the treatment.

St Herb is likely to evade the wrath of regulators because the cream is "breast beautifying" rather than "breast enlarging" - a trick missed by makers of a "breast enlarging bra" now under scrutiny from the Thai Food and Drug Administration.

Whether it works or not, a headline in the Thai Post tabloid summed up the controversy best in a society obsessed with marketing gimmicks: "Big breast bras good for people with small brains".

What a great advertising ploy.....I know that there will be "knockers" and do gooders having a go, but what a great "hands on" marketing promotion....their product "abreast" of the front pages. :o

  2. "He had been staying at the Sawasdee Court Hotel on Pattaya Second Road in room 501."

These articles are so detailed, when there is a murder in a hotel room, some girls will think that a ghost is left behind.  Some of the bargirls have extensive databases of the rumored ghosts for each hotel, and if you say your staying at one of these hotels, they'll ask you what room or floor to make sure its safe.

So next time you check into a hotel ask if anybody has been axed in it before you settle in.  Girls don't like boom boom when they think someone creepy is watching.

That room number rings a bell to me :D

    12006....is that better???? :o

  3. I know that this is the Chiang Mai section, but Tequila Reef has been recomended on Chiang Mai threads about Mexican food so many times that I just wanted to warn people not to go all the way to Pattaya in desperation - as I did! :o

I have followed the search for decent Mexican food in Thailand with interest. I believe it was Chingy who finally deduced that, "there isn't any". :D

Until a few days ago, I had one hope left. Several people had mentioned that Tequila Reef in Pattaya is the real deal and that the owner of, the excellent, Bourbon street in Bangkok is a part owner as well.

I finally tracked the place down this week.

I lived in San Francisco for many years, and I will tell you one thing, it looks like real Mexican Food.

However, as each and every super-type Burrito is completely covered in what tastes like bottled BBQ sauce - they call it "enchilada sauce" - I don't have the slightest idea what the other ingredients tasted like, but it wasn't like any Mexican food that I've ever had. The flour tortilla was springy rather than flat like it should be however, I can tell you that.

Anyway, one more fake Mexican place knocked from its pedestal! :D

I have to agree with Judge that Tequila Reef have developed a type of Mexican food which if you are a purist and you are going for a meal only this might not be to your taste, although every time I have been in their people seem to be enjoying it.

For a more rounded experience of the place I like to have a chat with the guys at the bar and a couple of beers before the meal....the steaks are pretty good...and the beer always cold.

One word of warning.....if you go for the Tequila reef record for drinking the large Margharitas be careful of the steep steps on the way back from the washroom. :D

  4. English man falls from his Jomtien Hotel Balcony after a night of heavy drinking

Police Major Tailert from Dongtan Police sub-station based on Jomtien Beach was called to the Jomtien Hotel to investigate the case of a foreign man who had apparently jumped form his hotel room balcony. At the scene, Rescue workers were attending to Mr. Mark Slingo aged 23 from England, a qualified diving instructor. According to his girlfriend, Khun Virada also aged 23 he had come back to his room number 307 on the 3rd floor after a night of drinking in a bar behind the Carrefour center in Central Pattaya. He had gone out to the balcony for a cigarette when he apparently fell off the balcony due to his intoxicated state. After an initial inspection, he appeared to have sustained a serious neck and shoulder injury and also some deep cuts to his foot and hand. He was transported to the Bangkok-Pattaya Hospital for treatment and his girlfriend was taken to the Dongtan station for further questioning. The case is still ongoing.

    -Pattaya City News

How many times have we read of Farangs falling off balconies after a drink.

I don`t know what the height of the balcony rails are at this hotel, but some balconies tend to be only a bit higher than your wasteline if you are tall and quite easy to fall over if you miss your step or have had a drop too much....Is their a regulation height for a balcony rail?? Probably not...

  5. Does anyone know any good shops in Pattaya that have nice clothes for very small ladies (XXS)? My girlfriend is very short and very thin, even by Thai standards. It is hard for her to find any clothes that fit well. Ladies clothes are too big and kids clothes (girls size 10 is about right) usually don't have hips/boobs. There're a million clothes shops here but sadly they all seem to sell pretty much the same stuff.

Best thing to do if you can`t get clothes off the peg is to go to one of the many tailors and get made to measure :o

  6. Greg's Kitchen 2nd Road ooposte Soi 6 ( nearly ) , an outstanding Breaking of Fast.

    :o

I used to go to Gregs quite often but then something happened to the sausages they tasted awful so now I would reccommend Baywatch, which is located towards the bottom of Beach road....a lovely place where the food is excellent (real pork sausages), a good menu with plenty of variety including Thai food and some old Western favourites such as apple pie at very reasonable prices and you have a magnificent view of the sea....oh! and I nearly forgot to mention you get service with a smile. :D

  7. My wife has found a good compromise...she teaches the security guard one or two words of English in passing...and he carries her shopping for her.

She is very pleased that after 2 months he now says to her "Good morning Madam," instead of "Good morning Sir." :o

  8. A Greek parked his brand new Porsche infront of the office to show it off to his colleagues.

As he is getting out of the car, a truck comes speeding along too close to the kerb and takes off the door before speeding off.

More than a little distraught, the Greek grabs his mobile and calls the Police.

Five minutes later the Police arrive... Before the Policeman has a chance to ask any questions, the Greek starts screaming histerically: "My Porsche, my beautiful Black Porsche is ruined. No matter how long at the panel beaters it`ll simply never be the same again!"

After the Greek finally finishes his rant, the Policeman shakes his head in disgust. "I can`t believe how materialistic you bloody Greeks are," he said "You lot are so focussed on your possessions that you don`t notice anything else in your life."

"How can you say such a thing at a time like this?" snaps the Greek.

The Policeman replied, "Didn`t you realise that your right arm was torn off when the truck hit you?"

The Greek looks down in absolute horror, "My God," he screams...."Where`s my Rolex?????"

  9. Two foreign men discovered dead by hotel cleaning staff in two Pattaya hotels.

It was a busy Wednesday morning for Police Major Chayaporn from Pattaya Police Station as he was called to two separate cases of deceased foreign men. He began the day at a hotel on Pattaya Second Road. In room no.201, hotel staff discovered the body of Mr. Samuel Jon Borofsky, from Ohio in the U.S.A. Mr. Borofsky, who is half American and half Korean was found in an unusual position on his bed. There were no signs of a struggle suggesting no foul play was involved. Near the body was a box containing one wedge of uneaten pizza inside. Near the bed were a variety of medications relating to abdominal disease and on closer inspection of the body, a major scar was present across his stomach area. Police believe that death may have been caused by the young man eating the Pizza:D A post mortem exam is now underway and the American Embassy in Bangkok has been informed.

For the second case, the Police Major was called to the Asia Pattaya Hotel off the Pratamnak Road. In room number 344 on the 3rd Floor, hotel cleaners discovered the body of Mr. Jacob Schwartz aged 48 from Israel. It is though the man passed away during the night. In a suitcase near the bed, many types of medication were found relating to a heart condition. It is thought that a heart attack is the cause of death and hotel staff confirmed that the man was alone during the night. Once again the body was removed and a post mortem examination is underway and the Israeli Embassy has been informed of the man’s passing.

GEE...and I was just about to have pizza for lunch! :o

  10. Thai workers found living in goose cages

ISRAEL: -- Immigration Police officers involved yesterday in a pre-dawn raid on a goose farm on Moshav Ben Zakai were horrified to discover 14 Thai workers living in cages designed for geese. The cages, located just meters from an open sewer, had apparently been home to the workers for the past several months. "They were living like animals," said one shocked officer. "Poultry is usually kept in better conditions," he added.

The raid was launched after the Immigration Police received an anonymous tip-off that the farm was employing illegal foreign workers.

In the 120 meters of cages, the officers found mainly geese and the occasional rat. But in one cage, the last section of the longest of the cages, they found the 14 workers asleep on filthy mattresses.

"The cages are very long and the workers were asleep in one 20-meter section," said Chief Superintendent David Mondani, the head of the Immigration Police's central division. "The cage was raised slightly off the ground, around half a meter, and directly underneath was a gutter carrying the geese's excrement. There was no roof to speak of, just a flimsy asbestos covering."

During the months that the workers were employed at the farm, they ate their meals inside the pens, watched television during their free hours and, even during the recent cold snap, slept inside the cages.

"At first we looked for the workers inside one of the buildings, but found nothing. We then searched the sheds, and we were shocked to find the workers sleeping there. They were very scared when we woke them," Mondani added.

A preliminary investigation found none of the 14 workers had valid permits, and the Immigration Authority suspects that they were employed by the same farm where they were found sleeping. The Immigration Authority plans to deport some of the workers, while others will be granted work permits and found alternative places of employment.

Immigration Authority sources said yesterday that the workers apparently fled from their previous employer and found shelter in the goose farm. "It would appear that their boss took advantage of their dire situation and kept them in such appalling conditions."

The owner of the goose farm, a 52-year-old resident of Ben Zakai, and his 30-year-old son were arrested yesterday. They will appear today at the Ramle Magistrate's Court for a remand hearing. They are suspected of exploitation and illegally employing foreign workers.

The suspects, who arrived at the Ramle police station for questioning in an expensive BMW jeep, deny all the charges against them. Indeed, they deny all knowledge of the 14 Thai workers. According to Mondani, however, there is evidence linking the two to the workers.

    -- haaretz.com, Israel,  2005-02-16

..Well did anyone bother to ask the Thais how they felt?

It seems as though `roughing it` has worked for some of them as they are to get work permits, which is probably what they wanted in the first place.

Illegal immigrants cannot expect to be treated as legal immigrants and I am sure that they did not expect to be.....but they took their chance like thousands of others do.

The truth of the matter is although I do not condone exploitation that people all over the world get exploited when they arrive in a country illegally. I canoot see anywhere where anyone has said that these people were promised anything other than work.........they took their chance..
