  1. Forget mobiles and gold.....

You dont know her, why dont you ask her Mum, find out what she likes and then buy according to your budget.

A CD player maybe an idea.....with some cash for her to buy her fav music.

Wait till you get there and take her shopping at the local market, that way she can pick out some clothes she likes and you control the budget.

If you give her cash, seal it an envelope with a card....dont just hand her the cash...and something from 500 to a 1000 baht will be enough.

500 to a 1000baht....hey this guy wants to make a good impression here not be called "kii-niao" on his first meeting :o

  2. Our maid has resigned.

That was a shock, not quite sure why (except we had a somewhat different view of exactly what "hourly rate" meant!) but now we need a new one and really are not too sure where to look.

So I was wondering, does anyone here have recommendations? We have a small apartment, not far from Asok BTW (5 mins walk) and the other maid tended to spend 3 hours, once a week, cleaning from top to bottom. Nothing else, no cooking or anything. Just pure dusting, cleaning, floor washing etc.

Some english would be nice, obviously, but not essential.

If anyone can recommend a place to look or even a person, please let us know!

    Thanks

    Neph.

Sometimes you don`t realize how good your staff are until they have gone.

Always best if possible to compromise. :o

Yeah, managing staff here might be considered a fine art for farangs here. And our learning curve here is mostly based on the 'hard way', isn't it? :D

Yeah sometimes it can be real hard to replace staff who have left. Yes managing staff anywhere is a fine art these days.

  3. Hello all. A question to Britt Expats. I have been in Thailand now for 5 yrs, still a young lad of 60. I am English.

Still 5 yrs away from Pension time. The question to you is, are U K pensions upgraded here in Thailand  every year?? There is a case now up before the Lords Law court in the U K for people who have not had a pension increase as they live in either, Oz, Canada, south Africa and other countries?

European counties, and USA the pensions are increased each year. Cannot find out anywhere the situation in Thailand  Thanks and have a good day

"You know when you are  geting old, every morning you wake up and look in the mirror,

if it steams up,  shave|" :o

For you to get the correct information I would suggest that you contact The International Pension Centre.

  5. Foreign tourist found murdered in Sattahip

Although officers said that the motive was probably robbery, it was notable that Bt5,440 was found in the man’s trouser pockets.

    --TNA 2005-03-02

    "notable"

Someone is not holding up their end of the national IQ improvement effort.

Maybe a grudge job (although I would have thought that the murderer would have taken the money to make it look like robbery.

or maybe the murderer just took the gold if the victim was wearing any...

or maybe the murderer was disturbed and had to get away quickly and didn`t have time to search the victim....

....I am sure we will hear more shortly....

  6. All ladies love gold and I am sure that a 15 years old is no different.

A one baht chain (just under half a troy ounce) would cost you about 8,000 baht.

Because she is 15 years old I would not suggest buying her less than this in terms of weight....if she was younger it would be OK to buy a half baht chain.

Good luck with your first meeting. :o

  7. ...It`s quite amazing that when something like this happens all the do gooders appear and try to persuade us that the ultimate sentence should not be given.

The bottom line is....this guy irrespective of nationality killed this woman in a vicious and callous manner with no regard for her life i.e. he bashed her head in.

Of course emotions come into it...but this is no excuse for taking a human life in such a way.

After he had killed her he did not have the smallest amount of respect for her..No what he did was to drag her body and dump it leaving it to rot while he made his escape.

I will pose this question. If the murderer had been a Thai National would the do gooders then be baying for his blood?....yes they probably would..

If found guilty of the murder this person does not deserve to live.

Why should the rest of society feed him and look after him for the rest of his life?

  8. Hi nev. Nice to see you around again. I think i may have got 'Pattaya fox mixed up with Furry fox  :o

Whats lloydies new bar called ?

Hi Guys...yes I used to be oh so Furry...give LLoydie my regards when you see him again........I guess Nightwalker couldn`t handle the pressure. I see that makaveli and a few others are on the FLB forum......Anybody heard from DR Dave?? :D

  9. It seems that the universe Gym has gone, i hear it was relocated to a new location and is opening anytime now....BUT does anyone know where it has relocated to....any info will be very much appreciated.

the universe gym is the main reason why most people don't enjoy going to gyms as its full of posing w**kers. I'm sure its heart wrenching that their main posing area on the beach is gone as they might have to train where nobody can drool over them. Tony from " looking like a prat on a billboard" has a newish gym on third rd for 'serious bodybuilders' so that would probally suit ex-universe types, son't know about actually getting fit though.. :D does Tony have somthing in his mouth when he does his adverts, he seems to be talking throughg a mouthful of cow-pat :o

....I guess you don`t like him then.....

  10. I have orderd a 27 foot speedboat from a company near pattaya supposed to be finished around april.

Now i need shipping from thailand to norway.Does anyone have some experience with shipping something like this, cost and stuff like that.

Also what is the normal price for a boat like this. I was told a wooden boat would cost me around 400kb. in plastic 500kb.

I'm not quite sure if this is a god deal or not, do you?

When you say that you have actually ordered this boat, have you signed anything? or paid any money yet??...If not I suggest that you do your homework first and find out what the relevant costings are and whether you are paying a fair price for this.

There are 2 boat builders listed in the Pattaya Directory.

Sahawat Pattaya Co Ltd. Tel 038-423611

Seat Boat Co Ltd. tel 038-421072.

Of course you could always go upto Jomtien sailing club and ask there.

  11. Only a matter of time before you have to bring your own Booze with you when you go to LOS on Hols.

AAAAAaaaaa reminds me of the good old days in Saudi,Libya and Kuwait.

I still have me recip....peeeee for making a reasonable beer like stuff.

1st Go to Robinson/Tesco and buy a big 10 gall plastic Bucket.

    2.  About 5 kilo bags of sugar should do to start off.

3    10 litre tins of Malt Extract...its stinks when you open it but think of

all that luvly beer you will have in a couple of weeks time...

    4.  When you leave (escape) the country (to England/North Korea)

bring back some packets of  Yeast  since  its usually better than

          the local contribution (for...fermentation)

Whe you get that lot home to your gaff find a quiet shaded, cool area out of the way of prying eyes (wardrobe in Bedroom) and start by filling bucket with potable boiled water..............

.......Wake me up I must be dreaming.......bit of a night mare really...ha-ha .....for a minute I though I was in LOS and drinking was banned

:D ......ha ha could Never Happennnnn......Could It :o

.....What No Hops?? .....Oh Well I guess it`ll be ok to drink between 2pm to 5pm or after midnight.... :D

  12. This is a new crackdown in Pattaya. Yesterday all establishments were told by leaflet that they could not serve alcohol between the hours of 2pm and 5 pm. and I have heard although not yet confirmed that midnight is the cut off time as well.

There are some exemptions to this I believe.

  13. Govt anti-alcohol bill

BANGKOK: --  The Thai government plans new legislation to control Thai consumption of alcohol, according to government officials.

The proposed bill aims to control the sale of alcohol and limit the hours of sale and where it can be bought.

Nearly 100 health officials from across the country discussed the proposed bill at a meeting, chaired by Public Health Minister Sudarat Keyuraphan, here on Monday.

The government should spend the revenue collected from the taxes on alcohol to fund the treatment of people who are addicted and to launch campaigns to urge Thais to refrain from drinking, the Director-General of the Department of Disease Control, Dr. Thawat Suntrajarn, urged.

The number of Thai drinkers has dramatically risen, with more than 300,000 new drinkers a year, according to Mrs. Sudarat.

More than 18 million Thais consume alcohol, or a third of the population over the age of 11.

Thailand is the world’s fifth largest consumer of alcohol.

Alcohol also causes five times the number of deaths than drugs.

Stomach cancer, kidney failure, strokes and automobile accidents have killed 30 percent of Thai drinkers so far.

    --TNA 2005-03-01

...Stop the Thais from drinking??......you might as well ask mice not to eat cheese...

  14. Canceling Chiang Mai-Mae Hong Son flights in the hot season due to smoke is nothing new.  It's happened every hot season since I first came to Thailand (1993) and I'm sure the pattern continues back to whenever THAI first began flying the Mae Hong Son route.

True, but when I first came here, it was much more of a rarity, and mostly for morning fog in the cool season, rather than smoke from burns, as I recall. That part has changed a lot, in my view.

Granted, the published news story is a bit of a, "so, what else is new?" kind of story now...

Are the locals burning the forests to use the land for farming??

  15. I agree that it's at least second degree murder.

It sounds like manslaughter at best; and with a good lawyer he'd walk.

Even if convicted in Canada it's be 6 years ion jail and out in about 3. The average.

And for anyone who wants to pipe in with any nonsense aboiut how that's too short a time or whatever I'd just ask them to consider the crime rate in Thailand and Canada.

But he's in Thailand; no wonder he ran.

When the police are the biggest criminals of all there's no justice in any case...

Best to make like a rabbit.

I still hope he gets away; because there's no justice even if he gets caught.

    IA

If what we have heard from his interview and the other reports are true I fail to understand how you can think that this is manslaughter.

The victim has her head bashed in and apparently has wounds to her shoulder as well.

He is supposed to have said that he was under the influence of alcohol and drugs (no excuse for killing somebody). The victim went through a glass door and stabbed him in the foot with a shard of glass. He then proceeded to bang her head on the floor with such violence that it killed her.

He then goes out to purchase the items which are used to put her body in and then drags the body away before concealing it, and then does a runner.

So he killed her with such force that he must have expected that death could have occurred (we are talking about a female victim here not a burley farang). He then tries to cover up his crime.

This has to be Murder...and he should be punished in Thailand where the crime was committed...

  16. Bowling, Cinema, early drink at Easyriders in north pattaya (not sure when bands start) otherwise i'm not sure really as i'm a late person (getting pissed off with it also) :D  :o

Then you should hire a trustworthy, reliable, honest kind of guy as a night manager (I could be had for decent salary and a wrok permit !) :D

    Entertainment....at a price?? :D
