  1. Prince Chulabhorn

Surely this should read "Princess Chulabhorn"?

Isn't it The King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital or is that a different one?

King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital is located at Rama IV. The attack was on Princess Chulabhorn Research Institute located at Nonthaburi, close to Pak Kret.

I've posted more details at post #17 of this thread http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/724475-bangkok-m-79-grenade-attacks-on-prince-chulabhorns-hospital-and-scb-branch/?p=7790559

    Indeed

Chulabhorn Research Institute is a biomedical and chemistry research institute in Bangkok, Thailand. Initiated by Princess Chulabhorn in 1987, the institute was established as an independent agency funded by the Thai government.

Today, the institute operates 9 laboratories in biochemistry, biotechnology, medicinal chemistry, chemical carcinogenesis, environmental toxicology, immunology, natural products, organic synthesis and pharmacology. Besides research, the institute also offers various trainings as well as master's and doctoral degree programs in Environmental Toxicology, Technology and Management.

In addition to the existing units and programs, the Chulabhorn Cancer Center and Chulabhorn Graduate School are scheduled to open in 2007.

    http://www.chemhelpdesk.com/about_us

The Chem HelpDesk was established as a joint initiative between the World Health Organization Regional Office for South-East Asia (WHO/SEARO) and the Chulabhorn Research Institute (CRI) through the International Centre for Environmental Health and Toxicology (ICEHT) in Bangkok, Thailand.

The aims of the Chem HelpDesk are to address the issue of the widening gap in the field of chemical safety between developed and developing countries, and to empower countries in the South-East Asian Region to manage the import, manufacture and processing, storage, distribution, transport, use, recycling and disposal of chemicals. This project was initiated in August, 2008 with the pilot phase running until July, 2010.

The Chem HelpDesk is not-for-profit, and through a website will provide cost-free answers to questions submitted by registered users. These answers will be provided by experts in the field who supply technical and scientific advice as part of our Community of Practice (CoP).

It is the aim of the Chem HelpDesk to benefit users and to help countries in areas of most need to protect human health through the safe use and management of chemicals.

What kind of sick people attack a center like that?

  3. If any of the pro Shinwatra supporters had been here any length of time if in fact they are actually here, they would certainly be well aware of the corrupt practices the family practices and in fact are addicted too.

Surely no one in their right mind can actually condone the Shinwatra actions politically, business wise and summary justice wise unless they themselves are receiving benefits from such acts or are also totally warped in their mindsets?

  4. judicial coup

imagine Obama not being able to replace his security chief - her choice of successor is irrelevant even if unwise (if unwise the electorate can show that at an election)

Imagine Obama replacing the heads of the CIA, FBI, NSA, National Guard, Federal Police, State Police, County Police, and other departments of National Security and Law Enforcement with members of his family or his clan. Imagine Obama appointing himself as Secretary of Defense.

  5. Haters, I recommend that you go to Chaengwatana (during the daywink.png ) to have a direct conversation with Luang Pu. He is very accessible and keen to talk with visitors. I cannot say if that would change your mind, but perhaps you will learn something, and then you could say that your words are written as a consequence of your experience, not speculation.

For those that have mentioned that Thai Buddishm is Theravada, the teachings of Buddha Isara are not 100% Theravada but have a large component of Mahayana. You may immediately recognize the Mahayana influence if you visit Wat Onoi, since the new temple is being constructed by handcrafters from Tibet. There are many differences between Theravada and Mahayana, and one of them is the Bodhisattva vow to remain in the circle of rebirths in order to help all living beings – and that may involve fighting against evil.

Here is a picture of a Bodhisatva in Wat Onoi, stepping on evil Thaksin in one of his former lives: laugh.png

  6. hahahahaha, this has to be the biggest laugh yet and foot in mouth move by the red. After throwing/firing grenades and killing kids and women, shooting indiscriminently at protesters and leaving bombs at the homes/offices of anyone that opposes the red ideals they are now saying they are worried they are being tergetted. Seems that when the reds start getting some of their own medicine(if it even was that)they start to sh*t themselves, typical of a group of thugs, its only good when they are doing the killing, not when they are the ones being targetted.

    +1

My family and friends in Chaengwattana are also insecure with all those frequent grenade attacks.

  7. Bkk Post has an article where Transparency International is urging the government to stop intimidating the NACC.

Source please. How is this intimidation? It seems it is the NACC that is intimidating the PM by not allowing the PM to defend herself. Perhaps they have long ago made up their minds on this case.

  8. Motive Behind Redshirt Poet's Murder Unclear: Police

    13983215501398321619l.jpg

    By Khaosod English.

BANGKOK — Police say they have not established a clear motive behind yesterday’s murder of a pro-government activist and poet, although his fellow activists insist it was a political assassination.

"We haven't reached a conclusion about the motive," said Pol.Col. Thanawat Wattanakul, after meeting with investigation officers at Chokechai Police Station in Bangkok. "We suspect all motives, political and private matters."

Kamol Duangphasuk, aka Mai Nueng Gor Gunthee, was shot dead at point blank in a restaurant parking lot in Bangkok yesterday by two masked perpetrators who later sped away on a motorcycle, police said.

A 28-year-old witness, who lives in a building opposite the crime scene, said he heard "4 to 5" shots from the parking lot and saw two suspects wearing balaclavas, each of them approximately 170 centimetres tall, speed away on a silver-coloured Honda Sonic motorcycle.

The witness said he could not make out the license plate number.

Pol.Col. Thanawat said police will study video footage of Mr. Kamol's recent appearances on rally stages and TV shows to see if he had possibly defamed or offended anyone, which could lead to a potential suspects.

However, Pol.Maj. Sangiam Samrarnrat, a Redshirt supporter and Mr. Kamol's co-host at the Redshirt-allied DNN channel, claimed that the murder was certainly driven by political reasons.

Pol.Maj. Sangiam blamed armed elements of the anti-government protesters and rogue military officers for engineering the assassination.

He nevertheless insisted that Mr. Kamol had refrained from provoking anyone throughout his career.

"Mai Neung liked to talk about history, sometimes going deep into national security issues, but he never identified anyone by name," Pol.Maj. Sangiam said. "His style is not aggressive. He is an artist, a poet. He talks deep and uses parables."

The pro-government police officer also urged his fellow Redshirts to protect themselves by whatever means possible.

"They can't hope to rely on the laws to protect their lives anymore," Pol.Maj. Sangiam said.

    Read this sentence:

"The pro-government police officer also urged his fellow Redshirts to protect themselves by whatever means possible."

    What??? blink.png

1.- Pro-government Police? Isn't the duty of Police to serve ALL the citizens?

2.- "Urged his fellow Redshirts to protect themselves by whatever means possible"? His "fellows"? Protect themselves? Whatever means possible?

How should all that be interpreted?... facepalm.gif

Anyway... this coward assassination is very sad, and I hope that they can capture the murderer as soon as possible.

  9. She really has a very good defense: a militia that is ready to defend the position of her clan with blood, terror, and fire.

Guns against tanks isn't a very good defence!!!!

What tanks are you talking about? Are you writing from Eastern Ukraine?? I was rather thinking about Human Beings, not about tanks. Haven't you heard about all those who have died (including children) or have been injured from the violence of the militia defending her clan?. Not to mention the intimidation, threats, and violent attacks against those investigating the wrongdoing of her government.

The very least that a normal leader in a normal country would have done long time ago is to publicly condemn the violence, condemn the perpetrators, condemn the apologists of violence, civil, war and separatism, illegalize their movement, and break any kind of link with them.

I think the appropriate term to define the Red Shirts dirty actions protecting the government is "State Terrorism"

If these threats from the 'red militia' materialise then you will see what tanks on the streets I am on about!!!

Precisely!! If those tanks ever go to the street (I wish they never will) it will be in order to protect the citizens and avoid more victims of the red-shirt terror. In other words: to do the work that the Police does not want to do. YL defends herself with lawyers and has a militia to defend her at any cost, but who is defending the safety of the people in this country?

  11. You sign a legal sales contract with a government.

    The government refuses to pay.

You sue the government, only to learn- in return the government don’t pay you alt all.

I wonder what Mr. Amsterdam, the legal advisor of the dear leader would suggest for the farmers in such a case.

Farmers don't have mega-dollars to receive any suggestions from Amsterdam. Although he has always pictured Thaksin as the "protector of the poor rural classes of Thailand", he only works for the rich and powerful clients.

Not even Fryslan Boppe would be able to justify this gestapo-like behavior from the government. Dr Buce is restlessly trying it, but he's being pathetic.

  12. I think the time has come for the democrats to front up to a general election. As soon as possible. If they cannot get the numbers now they never will. And whilst they are in government they can make all these changes they keep on about.

How is that related to the topic of this thread?

  13. The only argument of the Politicians:

"the rice -pledging scheme was a public policy, farmers were not entitled to have any bargaining mechanism with the government."

Well, it is true that the right to Collective Bargaining is at stake all round the world. Specially after the United Nations has abolished the right to bargaining and negotiation of the working and security conditions of their own staff, a right that is protected by the UN's Human Rights, ILO Conventions, and Global Compact - "do as I say but not as I do" - (google if you can't believe that). But this is not about bargaining the conditions, this is about denouncing a non-payment!!!
