Hello.  Any tips or what to look out for?  I have a friend renting a suv from Suvarnabhumi International Airport BKK and will be driving his family to Udon Thani.  It will be her first time driving in Thailand.  She'll start out around 7:30 am.  They'll need a lunch stop and a break.  Any place that's good for a lunch stop break?

A great Tip would be to forget the drive and get the plane.   Safer, Quicker & Safer!!

So, you think just let it go?

That's why the service and back up on goods once they are bought is so bad in this country, because of attitudes like yours.

They do things like this because people don't have the know how or the guts to face them off and complain, hence adding fuel to the already blazing fire of corrupt practice.

You are correct mate, it's also a matter of principle.    Keep at them and threaten them with court action if they don't refund your money.

Fourteen years ago I used a joint account to show the 800K to Immigration, but I had to have at least 1.6 million baht for it to be accepted. Now I have a separate term deposit in my name only that has 800K  and never touched. My worry is that 800K may be difficult for my Thai partner to lay her hands on upon my demise, so thinking of going back to the joint account method if it's still available.  Anyone go that route?

  4. Hi Guys'

I have searched but can't find!!    No doubt this has been on before so maybe the mods can put it to the correct place..

I've got an amazon fire stick & andriod box which both require jailbrocken,  I will be coming down to Patters soon so is there a place I can go to have this done?

    Thanks.

Pls send PM if you can help.

  5. These tiles are outside the home. I've got visitors from Germany staying with me who have a tile business in Germany and they say there is a solution called Lithofin Anti-Slip. This solution is applied to the tiles.

It's something like that I'm looking for in Thailand. Might have to get it from Germany but the postage would be more than the product.

a lot of products we used overseas are not available here, have been after certain paints here for a few years but the only place I can get them is Australia, NZ or the US. Want to paint over all the crap varnish work inside/outside the house and Bulls Eye 123 acrylic is the best way to do it(all the oil based undercoats have very strong fumes) plus I want to use a gloss acrylic over it so it needs to be an acrylic base for better adhesion. Will be interesting to see if you can get it from Germany, you will have to post the results as they do not allow these products to be sent on planes through the post.

I agree with your statement about not allowing these products on planes.

Will wait and see if this thread gets more mention of a Thai product.

  7. Hi Guys,

17 years ago I tiled all round my house with ceramic tiles. As you will all know these tile are very dangerous when wet.

Does anyone know where I can in get an ant-slip solution which can be applied to the tiles?

I have tried numerous places with negative results.

Surely I'm not the only one to have made the mistake of laying ceramic tile around the house and then have regretted it.

Any other ideas other than lift the tiles and concrete would be appreciated.

  8. I've known Vince for about 17 years and he is a nice guy to speak to. He never causes any trouble nor have I ever seen him the worse of drugs or booze. I'm sure many in Nong Khai will agree with me on that. Im sure there are a lot of bigger fish than Vince who should be nabbed.

Good luck Vince and hope to see you in Nong Khai soon.

  9. OK, I have an old friend who is having difficulty getting his wife to divorce him; they have had no contact for 2.5 years. After reading this post can he divorce his wife?

She is currently asking 400,000 Baht plus the house. He now has a lawyer in Bangkok whom I feel is bleeding him for money.

    I don't understand.

    No contact means no contact.

Currently asking 400,000 plus house implies current contact. If there is current contact I don't think you can use the "no contact" reason for a divorce.

Lawyers will always take clients for as much as possible. They have a conflict of interests, a short and easy solution does not earn them as much as a long protracted and complicated mess. That is why so many divorce cases are incredibly expensive.

If the house/land is in her name and he signed that bit of paper at the land registry department saying it was her money, bye bye house and land.

To reiterate for all the newbies.

    The 4*F rule states clearly

If it flies, floats, f&*^s or fixed in Thailand, rent it.

You are correct. We called her last week and asked if she would be willing to give him a divorce and the answer was that she wanted 400,000 Baht. Since then he has been to this lawyer in Bangkok.

What I'm trying to find out is,- Can he divorce his wife without her being in court as she is one awkward pig of a person? She will have no claim on his UK assets as this has been all sorted out.

How long does it take to raise a court action for a divorce?

    Thanks.

  10. The old guy I've mentioned is 82 years old and not in the best of health. The Thai lawyer he has in Bangkok has already been paid a considerable sum but has produced nothing in return. Only thing I know is that the wife received a letter about 2 years ago stating he wanted a divorce. Is there any way this can be rushed through the courts?

Thanks for any info which I can pass on to him.
