  1. We are in a village about 20 kilometres out of Udon and the post here is a joke. This month our telephone bill arrived at 4pm on the day that it was due to be paid. Three weeks after TT&T had sent it out. We never got the Internet bill and we had to go and pay that without an invoice. We have had our mail go missing, opened and items removed. On a couple of occasions we have had to go looking for parcels which we new had been sent to us, only to find them in the shack in another village where the post person resided. I will also say that on these occasions there was a lot of undelivered mail in that shack. We are not the only ones in the village or surrounding villages that this happens to. There are people close by who have businesses and get letters asking them to go to seminars in Udon and khon Kean. The invites arrive about a week after the events have taken place. I think they wait until they have enough mail to make a delivery and if they don't they bin what mail they have. Over the years I have monitored the post here and it appears it depends on which rogue they employ to do deliveries.

Today we go to Udon to register a complaint which we all know will fall on deaf ears. TIT.

  2. I have a three year old Rottweiler. Until last week he was OK but now his black coat of hair has turned white on his head and back, his nose is pink and he has an eye infection. He is lively enough and is still eating his food. Obviously he has a serious problem . I can't get the Vet until tomorrow.

Can any of you give me an idea of what could be wrong with him and give me the name of an ointment for his eyes please?

    Wee Jimmy.

  3. Well I stay in Udon and have done for 12 years now. I often go down to Patters and I must say that I can get beer and goods every bit as cheep and possibly cheeper in Pattaya as I can in Udon. I was in a bar last night in Udon and the owner closed the bar as soon as I left as I had been the only customer he had had all evening. I then went to another bar and there were only 2 cutomers. There are obviously too many bars in the town now, you just have to drive about and have a look at the empty bars.

  4. For somebody wanting to buy a bike with Side Car, there is now a Tiger Retro available with Side Car. When bought new its 100% legal. More info look at the Forum Sponsor in the Bike Part of this Forum

I have a Tiger Retro with sidecar, very good little rig, gets a huge amount of attention from both Thais and farangs. Very good for short shopping runs where I don't need/wants to use the car.

    More info here:http://www.tigersachsclub.com/tproducts.html

I have a motorbike & side car, I must keep a good hold of the handle bars at all times or it starts to wobble. Are they all the same?

  5. Since I can't own a pistol, I've thought pepper spray would be a good second choice. I've never seen it for sale (in Issan). Any ideas on where I could buy it...(ie) 7-11, Tesco or what kind of small shop might have it?

Can be bought in most Army stores in the markets here. We bought a tin at the market in Nong Khai.

  6. 18 months ago I'd have been interested, though not as some quasi foreign 7/11 come restaurant.

Strange how someone mentioned Martin's statement about the FC and not making a profit on food and drink because if he wasn't then he was doing something terribly wrong. Cars and motorbikes don't need a bar or restaurant to support them and anyway, they have a habit of going walkabout.

The trouble with Norbies is that without the lease details, you cannot work out a price. It is, after all, just a shell and would need quite a lot of money spent on it to become even functional as a bar or similar. You could chuck Bt1m at that and see nothing. My guess is Bt1.5-2m for a top fit out but less if you don't do food (which I think is essential). Not sure there is much return on that what with prices people will pay as there is no mass volume business.

Why not start a business/restaurant on your own? You could get a shop house, buy 10 tables and chairs + cooker + stock and start from scratch. I can’t comprehend why people pay an extortionate price for a lease.

If you do decide to buy get a written statement saying that the seller can’t start a similar business within a 50 mile radius.

  7. Try the Pawn shops or Price Busters in Carrfour, Thai's want almost the new price for anything second hand so you’re best off getting good quality new tools. Make sure you get a written waranty with them.

  8. Anyone tell me if the road from Suvarnabhumi Airport to Pattaya is effected by the

Red Shirt rally? I have a friend taking his family from the UK to Pattaya tomorrow.

    Thanks’

  9. I believe every Farang restaurant owner in & around Surin is giving good service and good quality food too.

    Dude,

My statement about the sh@t that is served by some restaurants is not aimed at Surin or SFC, it is a general fact. We don't use 7 elevens and we eat out at decent places every day as the guys who know us and agree with us will verify. Ill leave the 7 elevens to yourself as you appear to have first class knowledge of them.

    Good Eating.

    Hi Wee Jimmy

I cannot see anywhere in my previous posts where I have even mentioned 7/11 or been rude to YOU about the standard of your eating habits. Can you just post here what I have missed then I will be pleased to publicly apologise to you. :)

Secondly, I would like to apologize to everyone for keeping this ON TOPIC as the title suggests its about Surin/Farang Connection.

    NEXT :D

    Agreed, We leave it now.

  11. This “don’t care” attitude doesn’t just relate to the SFC, it appears to be the attitude throughout this country,Thai or farang restaurants. They just don't care what sh@t they serve you as long as they get your money.

  12. A blonde, wanting to earn some money, decided to hire herself out as a handyman-type and started canvassing a wealthy neighborhood. She went to the front door of the first house and asked the owner if he had any jobs for her to do.

"Well, you can paint my porch. How much will you charge?"

The blonde said, "How about 50 dollars?" The man agreed and told her that the paint and ladders that she might need were in the garage. The man's wife, inside the house, heard the conversation and said to her husband, "Does she realize that the porch goes all the way around the house?"

The man replied, "She should. She was standing on the porch."

A short time later, the blonde came to the door to collect her money.

"You're finished already?" he asked. "Yes," the blonde answered, "and I had paint left over, so I gave it two coats. "Impressed, the man reached in his pocket for the $50. "And by the way," the blonde added, "that's not a Porch, it's a Ferrari."

  13. not shenanigans unfortunatly ,took my familly there for a birthday treat ,what a disapointment, the carvery was not good and as for the other food we tried another time ,tourist tat,no good for residents. but i will say the staff were pleasant.

Yes I've got to agree the staff were pleasant, it's a shame it hasn't kept the standard of the old Shenanigans.

  14. An Irishman named Murphy went to his doctor after a long illness.

The doctor, after a lengthy examination, sighed and looked Murphy in the eye and said, "I've some bad news for you... you have cancer and it can't be cured. I'd give you two weeks to a month."

Murphy, shocked and saddened by the news, but of solid character, managed to compose himself and walk from the doctor's office into the waiting room. There he saw his son who had been waiting.

Murphy said, "Son, we Irish celebrate when things are good and celebrate when things don't go so well. In this case, things aren't so well. I have cancer and I've been given a short time to live. Let's head for the pub and have a few pints."

After three or four pints the two were feeling a little less somber. There were some laughs and more beers. They were eventually approached by some of Murphy's old friends who asked what the two were celebrating.

Murphy told them that the Irish celebrate the good and the bad... he went on to tell them that they were drinking to his impending end. He told his friends, "I've only got a few weeks to live as I have been diagnosed with AIDS." The friends gave Murphy their condolences and they had a couple more beers.

After his friends left, Murphy's son leaned over and whispered, "Dad, I thought you said that you were dying from cancer. You just told your friends that you were dying from AIDS!" Murphy said," I am dying from cancer, son, I just don't want any of them sleeping with your mother after I'm gone."

  15. Never had a problem, went in last Monday for 90 day reporting and was out within 10 minutes.

Never had a problem with Nong Khai either.

Udon could do with a few more signs on the desks informing us which desk to report to, it's a wee bit sloppy.

  16. Where’s the best Sunday Carvery in Pattaya?

Last Saturday evening we went to Shenanigans for their Carvery. What a disappointment, not up to the standard of the old place. Never again.

Next day we went to the Sportsman Bar in Soi 13 and that was excellent so we ate there most of the time.

We will be coming down to Pattaya again soon so what I really would like to find out is- Where is the best Carvery???

    Thanks.
