  1. I have to agree, we were there early in the year and the food was cold when served and not the same as previous visits. When we complained we were told that if we didn't like it we should eat somewhere else. We will be up at Chang Rai in December and that wont be on our list of places to eat.

  2. MORNING SEX

She was standing in the kitchen preparing to boil eggs for

breakfast, wearing only the "T" shirt that she normally slept in.

As I walked in almost awake, she turned and said softly. "you've got

to make love to me this very moment."

My eyes lit up and I thought, I am either dreaming or this is going

    to

    be my lucky day."

Not wanting to lose the moment, I embraced her and then gave it my

    all,

right there on the kitchen table.

Afterwards she said, "Thanks," and returned to the stove, the "T"

    shirt

    still around her neck.

A little puzzled, I asked. "What was that all about?"

She explained, "The egg timer is broken."

  3. Your profile shows that you are in Thailand. HSBC in BKK will give you an account but the terms aren't so favourable. Singapore is better and you can apply through the BKK branch. Interest rates are low but, if you meet the minimum deposit requirements, you can subscribe to one of their investment programmes.

Do a Google search on HSBC and you will find those branches' own websites. Email an enquiry to each to get the detail. If you choose Singapore, they will email the application form for you to complete and take to the BKK branch.

I opened a HSBC account in Bangkok last year. Don't go to HSBC in Bangkok. As said in the previous post contact Singapore and they will arrange for their FA to see yo in Bangkok. He comes to Bangkok about once per month and it's normally the Sukothai Hotel.

  4. I want to open an account at HSBC in Singapore. I think there is someone on this site that works there. Can I open the account in Bangkok but make Singapore my base with paperwork or do I have to travel to Singapore to do it. When I do have it open as a Singapore account can I deposit in Bangkok but it will show up in Singapore? I don't want the Thai banking rules for money in and out because of all the paperwork required, not trying to do anything illegal but simpler

    thanks in advance

I did this last year. Contact HSBC Singapore and they will arrange for a FA to meet you in Bangkok/ Pattaya. There will be no requirement for you to go to Singers. It's easy and vg service. If you take funds rom Thailand you might have change to a Sterling/Dollar account first.

  5. I bought mine in Khlong Tom for 100baht I think, Sat markets have to hunt, but they have been there on occasion, from Japan.

    Oz

Got some in Big C about a year ago. They might still have them.

  6. From what I have seen in the supermarkets, Thailand has a pretty vibrant dairy (milk) industry.

Now if we can only find someone locally who knows how to make good cheese.

Hopefully its not the same person in charge of making the local wine though.

I'm very happy with "Caroline"-brand local Feta, cheddar, etc...much cheaper and quite decent!

Last night I bought some of the Thai cheese which is now on the on the market for 95 Baht. It's very good.

  7. Hi my girlfriend will be coming to the UK for a 3 month holiday in September I was wondering on how I go about getting her travel insurance for the UK in case she needs hospital treatment or something else, is there a company in Pattaya were I can get cover for her ? also how much will this cost ? as my GF is on a tourist visa and this is her first time to the UK she is not entitled to free NHS hospital treatment, so I need to find a way to cover this.

    Thanks

    Jason

Very easy, go to : http://insurance.thaivisa.com/quote-form

and Thai Visa Insurance can supply the correct insurance or contact the Pattaya Office : 038 415 795-6

Try Bupa. My mate insured his GF with them for a three months period and it was not expensive.

  8. WATTRA Clinic opposite the central Bus Station.

    042 343 057

She speaks good English but the reception staff do not.

She is gentle and hums tunes while she works.

    Been going there for years,

The female Dentist in Poulo Hospital is also very good and speaks good English.

  9. Apologies if this topic has already been posted but I am looking for current information.

What is the best method to send large amounts of THB to United Kingdom, rather than carrying in person. Please note the money is clean and their is a 'paper trail', no home trading or speculating in this case, and their are live bank accounts at both ends.

I tried to send just over 2.5 million to an off shore Thai Baht account which was set up for me with a good exchange rate last year. I had to change it to Sterling before I could send it. I've learn't my lesson and will only keep what I need in Thailand.

    Hope you have luck.

  10. khunandy

After reading the entire blog, I was sorry to hear about your builder. I guess asking him to see if he would be willing to build my house is now out of the question. I still need help if anyone knows a good builder in the Udon Thani area, I would appreciate your help. I am still considering the #30 plan that khunady is building and I hope to start contruction in the next 6 months.

I got a Builder from Udon to build my house 10 yrs ago. I thought the labour would be from his own building staff and went back to the UK. When I came back I found the labour to be from the next village. All unskilled builders. Beware of Udon Builders and the one which I used(Tepany Builders Udon). There are two big white Swans on front of his shop. Jack of all trades and masters of none. In other words Con Merchants.

The electric was a problem also and when I went back to the shop to ask to have it fixed they were not interested. I ended up getting another electrician on my own.

If I had knowen then what I know now I would have planned the house myself and got the family and locals to do the work.

Best to plan your house youself and watch over the construction. Bring a good spirit level and setsquare with you.

    Best of luck.

  11. Im on a stopover in bangkok en route to chiangmai. However, I plan to wander around bangkok for the whole day,Im wondering if I can leave my laptop together with my one piece luggage at the left luggage facility at suvanabhumi? I can't squeeze my laptop into my suitcase though. Will they accept the laptop bag?

It might be safe from thieves at the left luggage area, however I have seen some ROUGH handling of luggage in that area. Guess all you can do is make sure it is tuck secure away and withstand a few drops or some heavy bumps. :D:o:D

I've heard that if you leave your laptop in your case and it should get brocken or go missing your insurance won't cover this.

  12. Can anyone recommend a good cooking class/school in Chiang Rai besides the one at the Anantara? Thats the only one I've been able to find any information on, but I would prefer to do one that is less expensive and closer into town (we're staying at the Legend). I read someplace that the Wangcome offers one, but have not been able to find any additional details. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

There's an add for Thai cooking classes inside the night Bazar near a little bar which is next to the toilets. The girl speaks perfect english.

    This might help.

  13. I was told different by someone in the business that I trust.

    He/She was wrong.

You need records of Tax payments on 40,000 Baht a month.

    Hi All,

I was contemplating changing from a retirement visa to a Marriage visa at the end of the year but I have a question I would like answered before I make the move.

Question is: - Say the rules were changed regard to the retirement lump sum /monthly pension requirement, will we be ‘Grandfathered’ the same as those who already have a Marriage visa??

I have never seen a mention of this and would appreciate if someone out there knows anything regard to this.

  14. Can someone please give me links to secondhand motor dealers in and around udon thani ringroad. I'm after a pickup truck to buy sometime early next year for around 500000baht.

If you have 500000 Baht you would be better adding another wee bit and getting a new pickup.. Second hand vehicles in Thailand are very expensive.

  15. My Thai wife has just past her driving test in Thailand. She is joining me in the uk soon.

    Wee Jimmy.

Had the same with my wife.

We were down in Pattaya on a food run and I thought it would be good to get her an international driving licence.

We went to a lawyer on second road and paid 5000 baht for them to obtain this in Bangkok for us. They were told when they went to Bangkok that to obtain an international Licence a Thai has to have a Thai licence for 1 year before the I.D.L can be issued. We got our money back from the lawyer without hastle.

I have searched the DVLA website regard to this and as I reed it she is aloud to drive for 12 months on her Thai licence.

I'm a Driving instructor in the UK and I would not recommend you let her drive in the UK without proper tuition.

    Hope this helps.

  16. I don't know where to get one but would like one myself so if anyone knows where to get one in Chiangrai or Chiangmai or vicinity I'd like to know too. I have had a tiny bit of experience with one. It had an adjustable darkness setting so you could vary that for different types of welding and they work really well. On the other hand if you don't want to do alot of welding then the regular kind work fine too. I've never owned an automatic one and did virtually all of my welding with the flip up kind and with a little practice its not a problem....but you do need to get a reasonably good one of the flip up kind with a nicely adjustable knob for the friction on the flip up mechanism and a good solid fit on your head so that when you flip it up it says up and doesn't fall off your head in the flipping process. You've probably seen Thais weld by just holding the mask with one hand....I've never tried this but seems to work good for them.

    Chownah

Look in e-bay & get one sent out to Thailand.

  17. Thaivisa Approved by Thai Govt to provide Insurance services

BANGKOK: -- The Department of Insurance, DOI, has approved Thaivisa.com in conjunction with AA Insurance to provide insurance exclusively to Thaivisa members.

    --thaivisa.com 2007-08-24

As in Automobile Association - the UK Insurers?

Yes that's exactly what I meen. I think if you were involved in an accident and the Thai's knew you had ''Legal Cover'' it would detter them from trying to cream you.
