Trump's Pre-Election Strategy: Preparing to Challenge the 2024 Results
Now who was it again who was appointed to run the US Postal Service and by whom was he appointed? That would be Louis DeJoy, who was appointed during the administration of Donald Trump. Here's a rare case where we're in agreement; DeJoy should be sacked. However, Trump would not mention this because he's doing EXACTLY what they appointed him to do - make the Post Office unreliable so it can eventually be privatized and to throw yet another roadblock into the electoral process. https://www.nytimes.com/article/general-louis-dejoy-postmaster.html Postmaster General Louis DeJoy has drawn stinging criticism for the changes he has made at the United States Postal Service since assuming the position on June 15. The changes — including eliminating employee overtime, removing mail-sorting machines from postal facilities around the country, and reorganizing or eliminating Postal Service leadership — have slowed mail service in some areas and sparked concerns over whether the service will be able to handle the historically high volumes of mailed ballots expected in the November election. Mr. DeJoy has argued that the changes are necessary to help the Postal Service become financially stable. The service has struggled economically for years, and its financial problems have been worsened by the coronavirus pandemic. A Republican Party and Trump campaign megadonor, Mr. DeJoy is one of just five postmasters general to come to the post from the private sector since 1971, when the Post Office ceased to be a cabinet department and was reorganized as the Postal Service, an independent federal agency.

Sydney Protest Sparks Arrest Over Alleged Display of Hezbollah Flag
Any bets that this fellow is under the impression that this either occurred in the USA or that the US Constitution applies outside of its borders? I suppose the WD stands for "Weren't Dat"?

Biden Urges Unity Amid Hurricane Helene Recovery, Calls Climate Change Skeptics ‘Brain Dead
What a fine collection of utter nonsense! At least you took the time to spell things and punctuate, usually these sorts of screaming screeds have tons of those. Now onto business. Any sources that "Biden and Harris stole a billion dollars from FEMA funds to give to illegals"? Didn't think so. Any sources for "Took the money without asking"? Didn't think so. As to the Prosecutor refiling charges against Trump just before an election, didn't the FBI Special Counsel Robert Mueller raise an investigation into Hilary Clinton's e-mails just prior to the 2016 election that turned out to not even be something that charges were filed for and may well have swung that election to Trump? Or are we just ignoring that? https://www.npr.org/sections/thetwo-way/2016/10/29/499868601/fbi-head-under-fire-for-restarting-clinton-email-investigation-days-before-elect

RFK Jr. Faces New Infidelity Allegations From 3 More Women
Ho hum, big surprise. Birds of a feather etc. This is the sort of responsible leadership that the Republicans are asking people to vote for. What a collection of nuts!

Kamala Harris Blames Trump Policies for Deaths of Two Georgia Women
That's a BIG under-estimation. "Across 3,127 counties in the U.S., 620,872 estimated excess deaths occurred during the first year of the pandemic (March 2020 to February 2021), and 538,708 estimated excess deaths occurred during the second year (March 2021 to February 2022). This equals a total of 1,159,580 excess deaths during the first two years of the pandemic." https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC9094106/#:~:text=Across 3%2C127 counties in the,March 2021 to February 2022).

Was Harris using an hearing gadget at the debate?
I think they'd pair nicely with a tinfoil hat. Totally understand though as guys if you don't wear earrings, not my thing either.

Man With Machete Kills Ex Brother-in-Law, Injures Ex Wife’s Parents in Domestic Dispute
Do you understand the word "likely"? That's speculation, not reporting fact. People who resort to extreme violence such as this seldom do so completely out of nowhere in my observation.

Harris-Walz Campaign Opts for Media Silence as Election Nears
Really? I thought they would be particularly fond of that.

Harris-Walz Campaign Opts for Media Silence as Election Nears
Let me try to explain in a way our RW friends might understand. You're leading an NFL football game by four touchdowns going into the fourth quarter, the other team is in disarray and their QB appears to have suffered a concussion. Their defense hasn't been able to stop the run all day long which is how you built the lead. Do you throw the ball or just play it safe by running between the tackles and letting the defense run out the clock? Unless you're the Atlanta Falcons...(sorry Falcons fans, as a lifelong Patriot fan I just couldn't resist)

In this case, he's the opposite of a "low flight risk". He has the connections, the wealth and the places to flee. This is the main reason he was denied bail.

UK and Italy Strengthen Cooperation on Curbing Illegal Migration
Interesting study here that seems quite relevant to this topic in particular and to those posters like yourself and JonnyF who take these positions. (BTW, don't click on psypost.org links since those are heavily compromised and send you to malicious sites). https://www.frontiersin.org/journals/psychology/articles/10.3389/fpsyg.2024.1280366/full Methods: The research includes two studies examining the expressive and informational use of social media. Study 1 conducted a computational text analysis of comments on Singaporean Facebook pages and forums, focusing on how social media is used to discuss immigrants. Study 2 utilized survey data to examine the use of social media at the individual level, testing the relationships between cognitive ability, perceptions of threat, negative emotions towards immigrants, and social media usage within the Integrated Threat Theory framework. Results: Study 1 found that discussions about immigrants on social media often involved negative emotions and concerns about economic impact, such as competition for jobs and crime. Complementing these findings about perceived economic threats, Study 2 showed that individuals with higher social media usage and greater perceptions of threat were more likely to have negative emotions towards immigrants. These relationships were mediated by perceptions of threat and were stronger in individuals with lower cognitive abilities. Just sayin'...

The Cost of Delay: Amber Thurman's Preventable Death Highlights Dangers of Abortion Bans
Where is your evidence that there is a situation where "so many US women opting to not use contraception and using abortion as birth control"? IUDs are not a good method of birth control for many women due to pain and other reasons. Why is it only women's responsibility for birth control? If and when a male birth control pill comes out (already under trial), will men be forced to use it or have to take care of any babies they produce? You're in favour of that, right? The Right stands for freedom? What a joke!

Pager Explosions in Lebanon Target Hezbollah Members 9 Dead Thousands Injured
That's correct. And they've already done so, and believe it's legitimate and have shown no hesitation to attack Jews regardless of their nationality or affiliation or political beliefs. They have also been clear that they intend to go after any Jew, regardless of whether they're Israeli or not. So why is it that they're not allowed to be targeted? This was more humane than what's happening in Gaza for example. Better targeted and against a declared enemy whom they are at war with.

Pager Explosions in Lebanon Target Hezbollah Members 9 Dead Thousands Injured
I don't tend to hang with Hezbollah and doubt they spend much time in Starbucks or on an Airbus. If there were significant uninvolved casualties, I'm sure the Russian-Iranian information machine would be telling us all about them. Seems a pretty decent covert op, all things considered - beats bombing from above where more innocents are likely to be victims.

Bill Gates Warns of Likely Pandemic Within Next 25 Years
Nostradamus wasn't anywhere near as accurate or clear as Gates. And I know people think that CEOs are these super-beings who not only run these companies, but write the code, design the rockets, etc., but actually, no. They don't. Gates actually was a coder back in the early days, but once things start taking off he becomes the manager, not the coder. You've been watching too many Hollywood movies.

Man With Machete Kills Ex Brother-in-Law, Injures Ex Wife’s Parents in Domestic Dispute
If by that you mean someone who both likes and respects women and treats them as fellow human beings with equal rights, yes, you're correct. Perhaps you meant something else though? Which aspects of feminism do you find unpleasant?

Man With Machete Kills Ex Brother-in-Law, Injures Ex Wife’s Parents in Domestic Dispute
That would also explain it. You need therapy, I hope that you get it for your own sake. Living with hatred of the opposite sex is neither healthy nor responsible.

Bill Gates Warns of Likely Pandemic Within Next 25 Years
LOL! Do you think this article was custom-written for the ASEAN Now and their prized geriatric old expat market? As to "why would any of us on here care", I think you've encapsulated quite a lot of the Right-Wing psychology that we observe here every day. The RW tend to think only in terms of "what's in it for me?" Is there a better demonstration than this? I'll tell you why I care - I have kids and I have friends who are significantly younger than me. But it's not even about them entirely. I don't want even YOUR friends and kids (if you have any) to suffer needlessly when there's a good way to resolve these issues now through preparation. But it's not even about them. I don't want humanity to suffer needlessly either, why would that be a good thing? This cocktail of idiocy is remarkable even for you - I guess you missed that science has ALREADY DEVELOPED THE ABILITY TO DEVELOP NEW VACCINES RAPIDLY! There was this thing called "COVID-19", you may have heard of it? You really think we're not going to survive the next 25 years without a nuclear or bio-weapon war or complete loss of water somehow? Wow, can't wait for your new book to come out. And I guess you've also missed that Gates no longer involved in Microsoft, and that he's focused entirely on philanthropy with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. He also was the one who noted that the world was woefully unprepared and under imminent threat of a pandemic - in 2015! What a dummy!

Man With Machete Kills Ex Brother-in-Law, Injures Ex Wife’s Parents in Domestic Dispute
The extent of your misogyny is remarkable. A man comes and murders one person and severely injures two others and you somehow blame the wife of this walking POS for being cruel? Do you even comprehend the depths of your hatred? Did Mommy not love you? Poor baby. Anyone capable of this should certainly not be allowed around their children and there's likely good reasons as to why he was restricted at the time. He just proved it beyond any doubt.

Canada Faces Rising Extremism: Six Terror Plots Foiled Since October 7
Well, now you do! I'm Canadian and have golfed with Muslims, they're like other Canadians in many ways. Also golfed with some Chinese guys who were most definitely gaming the system, had been PR for almost a decade but were now finally coming to the point where they'd have to make the choice to bail back to China or stay. They were going to stay, but not sure they're model citizens paying their taxes. Probably doing good business though so they bring something beneficial to the country. It's a big tent in Canada, but the housing crisis is a tough nut to crack. I agree that Trudeau's government opened up the spigot too wide, and he's going to pay the price for that at the next election by getting his butt kicked. If he's smart he'll step down and let someone else take the fall and make it less of a thumping.

Trump Vows to Make Overtime Pay Tax-Free: ‘Finally Catch a Break’

Trump Vows to Make Overtime Pay Tax-Free: ‘Finally Catch a Break’
I agree on both points. The obvious response of course to Trump is both "why didn't you do that when you were President?" and "why did your massive tax cuts stop for the working people but continue in perpetuity for the wealthy and corporations?" Of course, these cuts were not offset by reduced spending or other means so added a huge amount to the deficit and were disproportionately beneficial to the highest income brackets.
