Short commentary of my LTR application experience: Filed my LTR (‘Wealthy Pensioner’) application on 25Feb. I submitted 2024 annual report from investment bank as evidence of passive income as I do not have any tax return documents to share (as I do not need to file tax return anywhere). Also wrote brief explanation of why so as an additional doc to the application. As commented by other posters, that was OK – however, as additional doc that was not in the requirement list, they also asked to provide statement of the portfolio where that income is derived from. I just submitted portfolio report and that was enough. Got the approval on 25Apr so took exactly two months from filing the application to get the approval from the system, maybe because of them moving to new office during the period, as well as Songkran holidays. Appointments available already on Monday 28th, so after approval visa comes quick. About 65min in the office, 90% of that waiting at different steps. Overall, the process is smooth and simple if you ask me. However one surprise: I got the visa to passport that expires in November, and told the lady in the office that my plan is to get new passport in home country in July, enter Thailand with that (showing visa in the old one) on September and then transfer the visa to new passport when back. However she said ‘it is better’ to apply new passport from embassy here and transfer the visa before leaving the country. I did not manage to get black and white answer whether it is mandatory (i.e whether I would loose the visa if did what I had planned), just that ‘it is better’. It appeared that she was not sure and I did not push her further. Anybody have experience in this situation i.e leaving the country with visa in old passport, and then entering with a new passport received from home country, and then transferring visa after arrival? Old passport would have 1-2mo validity left when entering. Just would be much more convenient for me if can do new in home country as could skip trips to embassy and pay the exorbitant fees of getting passport from embassy. However, not worth a risk if there is a risk of loosing the LTR if do like that.

Politics Thaksin Plays it Safe: Keeps Bhumjaithai in Government Fold
mran66 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Pretty good description of the situation. Thaksin is in a short leash for rest of his life and he would not be stupid enough to try to break it. -
At least they focus on innovation for democracy as there is a department for such "Office of Innovation for Democracy at King Prajadhipok's Institute" Looking recent history one can only wonder the focus areas of their innovation (reduction or growth). Anyway looking at the end result, maybe not a bad idea not to have focus on innovation in companies....

Backlash for showing what the country is?? Should have no reason for such, I would rather think that having progressive presentation would get backlash by being fake. Thai society is held hostage by its leaders who continue brainwashing their people from young age about the greatness of all things old and them being special, and preventing any progression

You are correct. For many if not most ordinary Thais it's about absolute money and/or gold, not profit. Profit is too abstract of a concept for many. Also, morality of getting hands to that are secondary for many, and whether getting hands on that is profitable is secondary too. As long as have money today, all is good. Until it's not, and then its someone else's fault. Long live Songkran!

Depends on your definition for good beach. But if you just want fairly nice and not far away, just go to Ko Larn on a weekday when it's not crowded. Rent a bike to find out which beach you like most. Personally prefer Nual as that seems to have most undersea life to observe with mask and snorkel Just a day trip with a slow boat is good for a lazy day. Stay overnight if you like

Thaksin Warns: Thailand's Economic Woes Worse Than 1997 Crisis
mran66 replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
...however he did not inherit it alone as in 2001. Not familiar with the 2001 situation details to compare to todays situation though, but anyway he is on a pretty short leash to do anything that the power holders see as negative. -

Thaksin Warns: Thailand's Economic Woes Worse Than 1997 Crisis
mran66 replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Thailand indeed has serious structural issues and the business model they have run has reached its peak. Whether thaksins ideas to solve the situation are correct is completely another matter - and if they were, would those in power allow implementation of the changes. -

Well, it was very easy way to solve their problem in clean manner, just by letting one man in to join. Alternative would have been quite a bit dirtyer. -

Seemingly not. Instead people got a claim for a small share of a dreamliner they financed instead. -

Ghost Tower Defies Odds: Bangkok's Abandoned Icon Survives Quake
mran66 replied to snoop1130's topic in Bangkok News
Look at the beams inside, won't find those in the collapsed tower. Flat slab structure simply can take quakes, as simple as that. Why they issued building permit for such is strange as buildings supposed to be quake proof -
Bangkok Building Collapse Sets Unwanted World Records

Probably works same as fingerprint scanners in airports, recording earthquakes but not alerting anyone in case quake happened.
