  1. ...don't forget that I recall it was Mr Big Joke who was behind changing the retirement visa requirement from "800k for 2mo" to "800k for 2+3 mo + 400k for 7mo". As far as I can see, the primary if not only reason for that change was to encourage more retirees to skip the legal route, and get the 10+k bribe per renewal to immigration officers. Seems Big Joke still thinks too many people skipping the agency approach, and sticking to legal way, thus he need to increase the requirements further to get more people to bribe the immigration staff and forget the bank approach
  2. well, Thailand could not care less about fairness, they take all they can if they can. Especially so from foreigners, but basically they treat their own nationals pretty much the same, taking advantage whenever/wherever there is a chance. The only question is whether they conclude that they could get more overall by changing tax policies, for sure they know there will be downsides as well if they change the policy - question is if they assess upsides be more than downsides overall. As commented earlier in this thread, very very interesting to see what e.g property developers will comment on the proposal. Also, don't forget that the government is heavily influenced by the wealthy, who for sure make much of their income outside of Thailand (I would actually assume that the reason the policy is as it is, is that the wealty have influenced govt to keep it that way so that their overseas investment income would be tax free). Thus, govt will get a lot of resistance from the powerful too...
  3. Anyone actually know how the taxation in Cambodia is for the non-Cambodia source income, esp capital income? If indeed the worst case would happen i.e Thailand suddenly would start taxing residents of global income, need to start looking for new tax residence. If only for the part of income sent to Thailand, maybe could handle as in reality can circumvent for large part, but if indeed they would require tax on all income regardless of whether sent here or not, that would be a bummer. China at least used to be good, only taxing China source income, but don't really fancy going back there, thus would need to look at other places with good tax regime for non-local source income
  4. Nothing to do with visa. Simply if you stay more than 180 days or more during a calendar year, you are tax resident regardless of whether you have visa of some kind or not
  5. Two or three years ago I actually got a letter from tax office, listing my foreign income that they had to the penny by source, obviously must have received from my home country tax system as otherwise they would not have any way to dig those out. Had to go to Jomtien tax office to sign some papers to state that I had not brought any of those income to Thailand the same year. Did not look any evidence of bank accounts or anything that the letter said I had to provide...the lady looked like she was tired of handling such jobs.
  6. Question remains how they define the 'taxable income' that is transferred to Thailand - currently anything that has been earned during previous tax years, is not taxable, rather the income earned is capitalized at the end of each tax year, and free to transfer to Thailand next year without Thailand treating it as taxable income. So how they define the 'taxable income' according to new proposed ruling in such case (which I believe is relevant for quite a few foreigners living here). Say if I have investment portfolio of $10M, on which I got $1M income in 2023, and transfer $100K to Thailand in 2024, will the 100K be defined as taxable Thai income? My claim is that I did not send any income earned in 2023, I rather sent 100k of the capital I sold during the year, and kept & re-invested all earnings outside of Thailand? Can I claim that I am just transferring my earlier investments/savings that I sell to send to Thailand, or do they treat any sent funds as income up to the actual earned income during the year? If the latter, I bet many current tax residents, incl myself, will not be tax resident for long...also, it would have some hit on foreign private investments as well as those would be treated as taxable income...
  7. did that just today as luckily had photos of my licenses. But still, want to have the hard copy as well, just in case. Seems there is some uncertainty whether residence certificate is needed or not - guess better take the pain and wait a bit in immigration first to get one rather than go DLT without, and wait hours in DLT just to be told that I need that...
  8. Anyone with recent experience of required documents and steps to get replacement for lost driver's license? Understood can get in Pattaya DLT. Police report of lost license have already
  9. METOD quality is good, same stuff they sell all over the world. I built mine from their parts in 2015, and no issues at all. Warranty service also tested and proven to work very well. They can design for you on the spot as long as you have your room dimensions with you., or you can do yourself using their web design tool (as I did), can print purchase list directly from the tool. https://www.ikea.com/th/en/rooms/kitchen/ They also install for a fee, I did myself though. Easy peasy Took granite tops from local stone shop though, price about same as melamine stuff from ikea and for sure lasts longer.
  10. Facebook related scams pale in comparison to administration related ones...how about that??

    Cinema pricing

Both Major and SF cinema have smartphone apps where you see prices for few days and even buy tickets. Just install and check from there how prices vary daily
  12. My estimate is it will be ready in 555 days, every day!
  13. A lot of new Somtam shops coming. With a special less spicy flavor!
  14. Would like to see how clean the boob job was!

  16. Looks like world is a better place today. Or at least surat thani
  17. "I dread finding out what the usage results of this median will be upon its completion" - Many bikes and cars crashed to the median while passing or avoiding others, causing unnecessary carnage and human suffering. - Quite a few cars stuck on their bottoms on top of the median while trying to make u-turn over it. - Causing unnecessary queues when someone stops on left lane so that no space to bypass from the right due to the median (even if no coming traffic) - Hawkers selling amulets and flowers standing on it Thus can not say it will be useless or unused! Wait for year or two it will be wiped off, just like the Watboon roundabout. Good source of income for officials.
  18. Over 300 tested in a local nightlife venue and not a single drug positive found...pretty much as credible as no prostitution found in Soi 6.
  19. I've had so many experiences of clogged aircon filters being the reason for ac not being able to cool the room regardless of compressor running full time that have developed habit of checking ac cleanliness first thing after taking the room. More often than not the maintenance is complete neglected.
  20. Type keto into Google maps search and you can see few. Good or not I don't know
  21. Wonder if the Muslim leaders also agreed with his massage palour business?
  22. How about brake failure, slippery road and jumping electric poles then? Clear without saying that lack of brain does not cause any. Except maybe for foreigners!
  23. Strong enforcement with hefty penalties makes wonders even in Thailand, just look at the quantity of section 112 violations annually as extreme reference. Even with 2000 baht fine with enforcement would change the scene fairly quickly.
  24. " were acting as Thais" Acting as Thai? - I understood she is Thai, no need to act.
  25. Danilo probably ventured into wanchai bars and met his country ladies who do not expect him to report when he goes to poo, rather teached him something more enjoyable that his mother never told him about. Danilo is pissed to mama for not teaching him all that years ago, he missing all the fun. Rest is history.
