  1. Just take a look at the American history, they like to steel other people's national treasures,

Yeah, we're the only ones. And we also stole the good part of a continent. (Something the Australians never did.)

Steel? Gee...I hope English isn't your first language.

Yu'p "steel" hehehe, oop's for the typo, hmmm wait a second, is that how to spell typo? or is it typ'o or maybe tie-po? blink.png

"(Something the Australians never did.)" and what do you mean by that comment?

Hmm....makes me think how many prisoners on those prison ships were in the slammer for theft, before they populated that big piece of rock down under. History is a pain in the butt, isn't it?

  2. new laws are being drafted in Queensland to ban motorcyclists riding in groups of three or more to stop them using numbers to intimidate.

    Should try that here.

    That's a good move.thumbsup.gif

That sounds like something that old Joh Bjelke-Petersen would have instigated. He was a tough Premier but Queensland was all the better for it.

I agree. There is nothing more intimidating than having a bunch of 10 year old children on Mio scooters blocking the intersection.

  3. You will not build a decent house for less than 1 000 000 baht. Decent place to rent; 4 000 baht/month...I suppose if you plan on living 21 more years the house will be cheaper.

If you are not used to country or village life you're going to be bored to tears. Best off giving that life a trial run. Assuming you are not trolling hard, keep your money tight and see how much your dahkling loves you before committing.

That is correct, on both counts. I live 5 minutes from downtown Udon. I love it, and I am not bored. The same goes for Khon Kaen....I suppose some enjoy it. However....if you are an active fellow, do not build too far out in the boonies. It is nice enough, but you will get bored

  4. It's a house for her and her family, nothing there for you.

But buy it for her if you want, as a gift.

How true! Try not buying one and see if she still stays with you. Wait two years, marry, rent for a year, and if she is till with you then give her your money, and let her buy a few houses...she earned it.

  5. It's cooler in the mornings, but not what I would call cold. At the moment it's lovely and sunny, around 30c

Just outside of Udon Airport....at 10am was 26. Last night very comfortable and cool. Bright, clear skies this week. Humidity is low. I think we have the best weather in Thailand right now....

  6. That's it..I'm off to Isaan! Lol. Nearly a year in Bangkok and I still haven't got used to the heat/humidity. A cold (ish) spell would be great smile.png

Don't believe it. I live in Sakon Nakhon and it has been 30 degrees today. Lovely. Thai visa weather forecast does not show a drop to 15 degrees for the next 5 days. The lowest forecast overnight temperature is 21 degrees and from my experience it wont be that cold. The good thing for us up here is the rainy season seems to be over.

Agreed...but there are higher elevations (passed through the hills in the national park there) in most of these areas. Especially in Loei (1 1/2 hours away from me). I think they are referring the the higher elevations. It was cool enough for a blanket and no fan last night

  7. Our small Niisan pickup is 15 years old, but clean, shiny and reliable. Good on gas, good looking, and takes up less parking space. Ham and Eggs vehicle, to be sure...so what would be the point in banning our vehicle? Vehicle purchased for 100,000. Nobody is interested in buying it. Why scrap it? Its a hell of a good vehicle to pickup and transport a small load, and gets through traffic like a champ.

  9. Interesting responses, I started fighting for people's freedom in Viet Nam. Sadly my own government did not have the spine to finish the job. I was 17 when I first went there. I learned at that young age that freedom is what allows people to become what they want. Doesn't matter if they want to be an advanced culture moving into the space age or they just want to be farmers. In the 25 years of my time with the Navy and Marine Corps I went to other places to help people in gaining their freedom.

I am old and worn out but i someone asks me to help gain their freedom, I will still give of myself for them to gain their freedom. Not their government, but the common people. Not the country but the common people in the country.

How they manage their freedom is their choice.

You were brainwashed.Your country fights for nobody except it's own self interest. The Vietnamese were fighting for freedom from the French oppressors and Uncle Ho asked for help from the USA,because you had fought for freedom from the British and French. No such help was supplied so he went and asked the Russians.Invaders will never ever defeat people in their own country, which is still proving correct today, where the US has stuck their nose into.

You have, once again, failed to see the big picture. After WWII, their was a great consensus that the Western Allies had given up too much, and failed to have taken the initiative to contain Korea and the Russians. (Douglas Macarther). The Korean War was fought, with no clear outcome, except the security of South Korea (1950's). Soon afterwards, the world saw the French turn tail in South Vietnam (a democracy). There was a mindset that the US was to come to the assistance of South Vietnam.

Your input seems so smug and out of context.

  10. Usa invading Thailand... And I will be out...

If England & Great Britain & United Kingdom & UK & Britain & U.K. tried to colonize 1/3 of the world again and this time included Thailand, I'd be out.

Oh wait. UK expats have invaded and colonized Thailand. Never mind. cheesy.gif

At least we didn't fail to invade Viet Nam clap2.gif

The US never invaded Viet Nam. Oh wait, that's right I forgot -- Brit expats aren't required to learn anything about the world.

Relax. The Brits, in general, tend to bash Americans here. Whether it is just from their rude disposition, or lack of knowledge (especially here in asia), I just don't know. Sometimes these things slip through. Penis envy should never be a consideration.

  11. A lesson well learned. Use your connections once, and payback is a lifetime. I learned this in the philippines. When I asked for help, they sent two detectives with a gun and escorted me like I was a VIP. Cost me money...and every time the police drove by, they would flag me down and ask for a drink in a farang bar. I looked pretty stupid bringing in cops to a gogo bar. Never happen again. Also, when I brought them to my home, they were eyeballing the appliances and trying to grab stuff. Also wanted to plant a 9mm on me (life sentence in jail for that). Beware the set up.

  12. It just irks the hell out of me that I get stopped for minor violations, while pickup trucks with their beds full of people fly by at high speed, unchallenged. No seatbelts, driver asleep, on cellphone, and sometimes drunk . <deleted> Pity for the foolish passengers...and angry at traffic enforcement for not stopping these obvious death traps.
