Probably forgetting something but still this is far more then I would pay in Sweden (Europe) where health care and school is FREE.
In Sweden the maid would cost u more than your monthly total in thailand.
Agreed, but sex there with the maid is free...isn't it?

Yes...many places are cheaper than America. Also many places are inconvenient, as well. We all live here with our pants down...(no joke)..meaning more precisely that most of us have no emergency plan/government bailout, assistance, rights or privileges. So If it was not cheaper, we would be dam_n foolish to stay. Thats is why, exactly, people pay more in America...however unhappy they are with the present government.
WHO IS
We all live here with our pants down,a bit unrealstic mate. Not one of my friends live how u describe
Obiously not you and your friends....
not unrealistic.
we are not citizens of thailand are we? and how many rights and privileges do you actually get here, that the rest of us are missing out on?
In Thailand.... do we really expect police services?
do we actually own our land (not referring to buildings)
do we expect to pay corruption fees to get simple things done?
do we have the benefit of enforced safety laws for commercial transport
the list goes on....matey...
just a few thoughts

Seems many people on this formal are in some kind of "denial". Of course you do not see the problem if you are not looking. I suppose it would be possible to never encounter this situation and still live here 10 years, it you hole up in some soi in Bangkok, and just do your normal routine. I suggest a better look around, try some of the "back alleyways.... look for some old houses with seedy men out front coaxing you in. Watch young girls from Laos wander out in small groups from time to time to get a load for their cellphone at a nearby 7/11. It is right under your nose..if you care to look. It is nothing I care to see, but having spent 30 years in Asia...(and only a few months of that in the States) you will see/

Pavlov used this same gimick to drive his dog crazy. Bell is noisy. Bell Rings. Food. Salivate. Now salivating even when their is no food, every time I hear that noise.

Our bills are paid by my wife only. I have no patience to bother with the running around. I do raise hell if somebody threatens to turn off the internent or the power. A few mistakes have been made, but I am very happy with the arrangement. The only thing I need for myself is some beer money, and about 30,000 for the savings account per month. The rest goes to her. My savings stays in the bank back at the states. She gets everything else...who cares !

I would pay the extra, if they were to pass out free beer coupons for some of the Night Clubs. Perhaps some Club owners would like some free advertising...contact the Airport Administration Office. It's for a good cause.

There are always the Crocodiles at the Crocodile Farm. Of course, they look better when they are moonlighting at the clubs late at night.

My cats loved cat nip in their toys. One also used to sit very close to a friend who smoked wackybaccy. They just got a bit kittenish and then went to sleep. All lived to a ripe old age. They were never forced to partake.
Look at him in my AV, does he look like he continued down the devilish road to heroin and meth addiction?
Did your cat get the munchies often? I would always get hungry when I was smoking weed and there was some pussy in the room.

Someone please tell me I'm wrong. Land of Smiles my eye! What the hell is wrong with these people? They are their own worst enemy.
Just to equalize this, I knew of a farang who would blow marijuana smoke from his mouth into the mouth of his 3 month old baby, whe she cried at night. This happened in the philippines.... Either way, inducing drugs into an unwilling victim is an obvious travesty. There are still many people that consider marijuana harmless. Not a lethal or dangerous drug. I am of the belief that it should be legalized, as it seems less harmful than alcohol. Sorry for the kitty, my heart goes out for the pussy.
-
Fritz lives.
The poor cat may now move on to stronger drugs...like Cat-Nip. I am afraid the woman may now be unable to control the urges of her pussy..(cat). Perhaps the owner may now have to sell her pussy..(cat) to pay for legal fees.

That is odd.. last time I went to a Massage Parlour, the Masseuse was drunk and fiddling with my little friend. I felt so abused....

I'd say that all Thais refer to 'farang' as mun when talking about farang in general. Example "farang mun chawp poo ying peu dam" (farang they like dark skinned girls.)
What you write as "mun" and "dam" is the same short open A in Thai. I believe it should be "man" instead? The "u" sound like "cup" in english is no way near that open A sound, more like in "Chorp" or "Chawp" as you write it. I've seen it other places, but isn't it wrong?
thats ok...if they call me "it" then i say..."Excuse me Ma dam?" ...a good retort. and you can just say you were being polite...lol. The other Thai's will giggle at her.

Only foolish people avoid following local etiquette. Perhaps some of us are shy, or embarrassed that we are not performing the "Wai" correctly. It has been my experience that Thai people will smile and appreciate an honest effort to Wai correctly. I have never been admonished or glared at. You will gain points for the effort. At the very worst, they will consider you child-like in your efforts. I don't worry about using the Wai at all...it seems only other farangs care that I gave a Wai to the security guard or housekeeper. Do not underestimate the fact that Thai people have been exposed to the farangs for a very long time....en masse ! Nothing really shocks them as much as you think.

With a considerable amount of thought to this issue, I now find it preferable to Wai than to shake somebody's had. There is no worry about sweaty, greasy palms, bacteria transmission, limp wrist action, or showing off your grip. Much, much better to Wai.

We are not assembling more documents/further proof of relationship.
I meant to say that we ....are...... indeed assembling more documents/further proof of relationship... that was a typo.
-
Just for the sake of following through, we mailed in all our requirements on 5 Oct and we were surprised to hear back from the Embassy in only two days. The told us my fiancee will have her appointment on 30 October. That was quick. We are not assembling more documents/further proof of relationship. They had only one problem in our package, and that was that the form 156 was supposed to have a bar code. The one we sent had none. I figured it out on their website and will have my fiancee bring in the new one. They said no problem, as long as she brought it. They asked for further evidence of relationship (lol..i lived with her here for 18 months) so we will get some affidavits from the owner of the house and some neighbors. Also have more plane ticket receipts that show we traveled together. I thought that was all cleared up, but they wanted to see more. Another update on 30 October after the interview.

come on these are just kids out for a bit of fun-hardly a damaging thing to do-I agree its not nice, and it is very disrespectful but its hardly a hanging offence. What I really resent about this story is that 58 is considered elderly! phhhht!
Read the "The dummies book on Thai etiquette" again.
Thais expect us to conform to their customs when we visit here.
Ok for your stupid noggin to get slapped in public by a over confident teenager in Australia and if so we would all laugh at your reaction to it.
But here in Thailand to show such disrespect to an elder is just not on.
poor man was on his way to the bank to pay sin sot for the boy's sister

Dry as a bone up here in Udon.... beautiful, cool weather.

It does not matter if you are up or down.... just be glad if your not tossed out the window when it derails.

I just wanted to add something to this. Desktops just are not required anymore, unless you are the type to plug in new graphic cards, add memory, replace and upgrade the internal drives, or just love opening the back of the tower and peeking inside.
As far as laptops, I do not even care to use the cd rom at all. I just use usb flash drives and external hard drives. And since I do not play many of those popular games that require heavy 3d graphic capabilities, i just bought myself a little ASUS EEE PC netbook (yes the tiny screen). But it gives 8 hours of battery life and it takes up almost no space. I plug it in a 42 inch lcd screen (My tv) and its like heaven. Only cost me 7000 baht... but worth every penny. I use a remote mouse and keyboard, and can sit comfortable anywhere in the room and be comfortable.
Yes, I have other laptops for serious duties. But 90 percent of the time I am just on the internet with a browser. This saves wear and tear on my other laptops.
You know you can buy desktops that are "all in one"? Towers are not necessary.
Yes.. now that you mentioned it. It has been quite a while since i have looked at any desktops, but I saw what you are mentioning. For my own personal preference, I do not need that setup, as plugging mine into my 42 inch screen is much better that having an ALL in One. You are paying a bit more for their monitor, when your home tv probably has hdmi capability. Nice to disconnect and bring my notebook when I travel.

Loy Krathong celebrations postponed

Keep in mind...this is not our country and not our customs/religion. Thailand does not need to pander to your vacation schedule. Obviously, a great man died, in their eyes, and they need to do something extraordinary to mark his passing. It is admirable but also a bit "quaint". The world needs more "traditions" and cultural flare. I wish the selfish posters here would just ..<deleted>..if you know what an acronym is.
