  1. Buying yourself a computer and then saying on that "highly watched" device that you are some kind of activist against the US Government.... is, not very crafty.

As a rule, anti government elements usually stay off the radar. But perhaps you are actually defying them to catch you...eh?

  2. ohhhhhhhhh..

that don't sound good. well...after sixty years of being watched, I am still doing pretty much the same thing. Today I got up early, cut some grass, ate a subway sandwich, and spent several hours on the computer playing Sims 4.

I hope they wrote all that down for future reference.

OBTW.....anyone read the disclaimer on yahoo....???? It says your privacy is not guaranteed. So why are you asking for that now?

From their terms of service...*you should read the whole thing...it's pretty involved"

    http://info.yahoo.com/legal/us/yahoo/utos/en-us/

"Yahoo automatically receives and records information from your computer and browser, including your IP address, Yahoo cookie information, software and hardware attributes, and the page you request."

    and

"You acknowledge, consent and agree that Yahoo may access, preserve and disclose your account information and Content if required to do so by law or in a good faith belief that such access preservation or disclosure is reasonably necessary to: (i) comply with legal process; (ii) enforce the TOS; (iii) respond to claims that any Content violates the rights of third parties; (iv) respond to your requests for customer service; or (v) protect the rights, property or personal safety of Yahoo, its users and the public."

  3. Here we go again. Everyone running in a panic because you fear somebody is really interested in your personal, boring life here. lol. I bet Obama is sitting in his office reading all this stuff, eh? Like he has all this interest building up on what is going on with these crazy farangs on TV....what with all the talk about sin sot, bargirls, paying farang prices for fruit, and all that.

Might even be browsing through all your downloaded cute kitty photos.

I am actually concerned about him thinking we are drinking badger milk (which should be taxed)

    ok...whatever.

  4. In the past, I used to go out alone. It seemed that every scammer in the world would gravitate to where I would be sitting, and start up a conversation. I think that they pick the guy with the howdy doody look. You know, kind of naive (even though that look is inherited, not earned). They liked me because I was alone, appeared to have cash, and would acknowledge their existence. Most of the time, i believe, they were looking for a free drink. Now, I do not spend much time in bars, but this was quite a while back. If you buy one drink for them, and they do not ever return the favor, then they are scammers, or no better than that.

The long term ones would try to weazle into some kind of friendship. Learning your name, meeting your other friends (they had none), and if they could not borrow money from me, they would ask one of my well off friends (without my knowledge) for money. I had one fat guy come to my house and befriend me, daily, for two months. Then, my well off, close personal friend would tell me this guy wanted to buy his motorcycle..but had no cash. I should have known better...but I just said...he seems ok.

After not paying for the motorcyle for months, the scammer would return the bike (as he was leaving the country anyway) and say sorry he could not pay. (Basically owned the bike for six months free of charge.) The owner of the bike would tell him that he did not want the bike back, he wanted the money. So the scammer runs off with the bike, sells it, but never gives the owner back the money. Ten years now. I lost one good friend that way. The scammer disappears without a trace. Funny, I ran into him in Krabi a while back. He said..."ohhh that. I offered to return the bike and he said no...anyway...that guy was rich and does not need the money...I have problems!!!"

    Then another disappearing act.

    Careful.

  5. Thailand is close to a tipping point.

Corruption is very high in comparison with 10 years ago. There is little rule of law and little chance of justice if sought. The place can become the wild west or it can turn to at least a little more orderly place.

Lest we forget, people torched the centre of Bangkok and up country town halls only a few years ago. I think its heading downhill and will get worse before it gets better.

Change and reform are the only way out.

Compared to the good old days the place is now like the Switzerland of Asia.

We just finished a 2700 kilometer trip, from Chiang Mai, to Phitsanulok, then over to Mukdahan, down to Ubon, then to Arruthaya and back up to Chiang Mai.

I had to laugh at all the places that my wife called "The Switzerland of Asia". Now I am not complaining, but I missed any similarities to the Swiss Alps. Mind you, I only climbed some of those huge, snow capped mountains,( like the Jungfrau Glacier) and rode that red train up to the top at Grinderwald. I just did not get that same feeling.

I am referring to Phetchabun and Loei. There was some mountainous terrain...but it just was not the same. And nobody was blowing through those big long horns they got there, while wearing girlish shorts.

Although I did hear some yodel.ay..hee..hoos echoing in the distance.

  6. We are now enjoying two residences...one in Chiang Mai (vacation) and one in Udon (wifes property). Well, suffice it to say that I am applying for my one year extension , and doing my reporting in Udon. Later on, I will report by mail, after we decide if we will be permanently moving to Chiang Mai. My wife's 22 year old just got transferred to Udon out of Bangkok. Her other 19 year old is going to the University here in Chiang Mai. All our leases, banking, car and motorbike purchases, and wife's family are in Udon. I just cannot handle the Immigration here in Chiang Mai. Some people probably do not mind it... Udon is much better for all that. Similar to the OP's experience in Khon Kaen. Been going there for 4 years (udon) for extensions and other immigration related matters.

Yes...I will eventually let one of my places go, but for now, it is Udon

  7. Lol, RGS can he get a Baht bus from Pattaya to Buriram??

They only sell one way tickets to Buriram. Then you "disappear from the radar". A few get a phone call out, and some, I hear, have actually made it back (only slightly worse for wear, but quite a few dollars short).

  8. Absolute nonsense, crazy stuff can happen with any nationality, there are a small minority of idiots from any country.

You are absolutely right and i fully agree.

I deleted my previous post because the posting i quoted got removed from a moderator. Luckily, the text is still in my clipboard.

Similar comments (a lot and much harder) about Russians, Indians or Arabs and last but not least Thais seems to be welcome widely and barley criticized by others. But i see, these nationalities are almost not present here.

While my initial post was more meant ironic, we see almost on a daily basis harsh and nasty comments about above mentioned nationalities......

So where do YOU come from......?

Please understand that i don't share personal information's on public forums. This is my private decision and have nothing to do with this topic or the content of it.

    So you're American then.

    you are very assuming...aren't you?

  9. Almost any place in the world deals with crime against tourists. Thailand has a bunch of these places, and you already know about them. Mostly scams and thefts. If you are politely, "tight" with your money, avoid late night binge drinking, and are not aggressive or impolite, you will most likely come out ok. Just remember that there are many people who know how to take a "cut" on any transactions you do. I like action, and do the outdoor activities...but we also hit the bar scene 3 or 4 times monthly. Those who limit their activities to drinking, are probably going to get more "action" (for better or worse), than I have seen.

With 2 years of experience, you probably have a good idea on whether you really want to own a vacation condo or not. I would not sell my home in my own country, to buy a vacation condo.... but some people have that kind of luxury. I owned places in Waikiki, Lake Tahoe and San Diego.....and most turned out to be good investments...but, in my case, I always saw the greener grass elsewhere. You might acquire a condo easily, but may have a more difficult time selling, for the immediate future. If that does not concern you....and you have plenty of cash, it just might make you happy to be an owner and not a renter.

Condos seem to be safely purchased....as you can actually own them outright. I rent a beautiful, large home for 5000 baht a month, and can leave anytime I want (I am not married, but have a long lasting relationship going on)..... Quite an advantage. I may return to my home country, when my son finishes school, and my social security kicks in. Also, I may have to take care of an elderly parent (I always think I will get there too late, and it bothers me). I find living in a spacious, uncrowded home/neighborhood much more comfortable than a stack of apartments, underground parking, and sharing common areas. Six month leases are possible....and, if you are lucky, you might be dealing directly with the home owner. The owner I rent from is fantastic. Only had to put 5000 baht for a deposit. (not furnished). We lengthened the lease from one to three years..and he is begging us to stay even longer. We might be an exception....or just extremely lucky. We treat the house with TLC....doing touch up paintings, fixing minor things ourselves, and making the outside areas attractive. That seems to make him quite happy.

Just make sure you get a proper visa. Tourists are allowed to buy condos, but you might raise eyebrows when you try to enter on a tourist visa. (if they know you are a condo owner). Seems they have not caught up on the idea of vacation homes for "long staying" tourists. They will see you as a "part time resident". Those that do stay quite a while (on tourist visas) who have hotel receipts and such, can stay the winter, every year, with no problem. It is just a precaution, in case you end up wanting to long stay. I am not saying it will ever happen, it just is a much safer approach to get an appropriate visa.

  10. Live streaming.

Should be landing at 11pm Thai time.

Very nice.... I want to watch that "harpoon landing". Imagine being on the wrong end of that thing. Two harpoons with barbs propelled by explosives. I wonder who designed that? Maybe they tested it, and the fuse did not ignite. Then the scientist runs to the Harpoon chute and starts kicking it....

Should of named the craft ..."The Moby Dick"... or something. Harpooning that monstrously huge whale of a rock for the ride of it's life.

  11. A butter knife?

    Scary stuff

I wondered if someone would take this tack... Hey, a violent lunatic without a weapon is scary enough. A dull butter knife wound would be painful... Remember what an angry Joe Pesci could do with a pen in Casino?

What happened to using the "right tool for the right job?"

Evidently this man just had an "English or Aussie" breakfast....the sort where you get butter..and a butter knife...for your toasted bread. He, perhaps was unhappy with his choice, so took the butter knife with him and went to McDonalds. I bet they were not serving breakfast...and he went crazy.

  12. The most predominant trait I see on the Forum is how many TV posters get wildly off topic and start blathering about something that has absolutely nothing to do with the subject at hand. This was about a foreigner who brandished a knife at a Pattaya McDonalds''s, and a great many subsequent raves were about the assailant's ethnic background and minor spats that ran between posters on ethnicity or nationality. Seems to me that we ought to clean up the idiots on our own forum before commenting on the actions of others who are reported in the news media. Enough is enough! Please have consideration for the rest of us who have to wade through this garbage.

You don't have to read anything - the choice is yours.

True, or one can make a plea to the moderators and members of the forum to make it better. Besides reading or not reading, one is also free to point out when some people are being a-holes.

just wondering...even your thoughts are irrelevant to McDonalds. Why not open your own topic about moderating, and what people ought not do? Seriously. Or become a moderator. Lets get back to the big McDonalds news.
