  1. The following info was taken from this website: http://www.worldairlineawards.com/awards_2013/lowcost2013.htm

"AirAsia enjoys a repeat success with the airline being named the World's Best Low-Cost Airline at the 2013 World Airline Awards, held at the Paris Air Show. The World Airline Awards are a global benchmark of airline excellence."

    -and-

"It is an honour to be ranked as Asia and the World’s Best Low Cost Airline for the fifth time in a row"

Give credit where credit is due. One person's opinion will not change world opinion.

I looked for something similar for Thai Smile...but not even in the rankings... for now.

  2. I'd be inclined to close this thread down and hide the original one out of sight. An opposite view from the Thai side of the fence could be that someone has been kidnapped and a vehicle has been stolen and the original thread is a pretty detailed account thereof. Throw in some unsavoury threats involving bulldozers and a fair amount of libellous comments about the OP's relatives. It may have the backing of most expats but Thais may have a differing standpoint. Both threads have served their purpose and further updates should wait a while till the dust settles.

    Who was kidnapped?

    And it was his car.

Story put on a public forum.

His house, by Thai law he can bulldoze it if he paid for it.

    Your post is paranoid.

The Op asked, and wanted to leave. A grown adult can leave his home, anytime he wishes. When you chose to walk out of your own front door, and return to your homeland, nobody is going to call the police. In fact, sounds like a personal matter between him and his wife.

The car is a bit tricky. I suppose perhaps some kind of ruling (from a future divorce decree) could possibly change things, as well as loans signed for when married, or just implied family arrangements. (Such as the wife testifying that the truck was purchased for the "family farm)"..... But for now...I do believe it is in his name only. Anyways, he lost his home and property here. A value far exceeding the car.

I do not really remember if the OP said there was no financing/lien left on the car. Again, as long as there is no criminal intent to defraud a financier (in this case, there is absolutely none)...then it looks good.

Legally, I know I can sell my motorbike if I wanted, at any time, as my name only appears on the Green Book.

Personally, I am happy the way it worked out. Weegee flew home for unrelated reasons. Family stuff, not really my business.

  3. Stars...?

Does anyone care? It seems most people like to stir up some controversy with their post. Counting stars and likes is like living in a small, conceited box. Probably earned by kissing the backside or pandering to the majority of posters by saying .."Sugar is unhealthy" or "Thai people smile a lot" or "I agree with Poster X, because he has umpity zillion likes and stars, and I want to be like that.

Interesting posts are those that go against the grain, and reflect some kind of "new" or "different" angles on otherwise, mundane topics.

  4. "Not worthy" !!!!

    w00t.gif

Really? I only heard a few people complain About the Air Asia web site. I think they actually clicked through without reading the polite questions, which made the price closer to advertised. Or perhaps not savvy people at all. Airline companies have no similarities to vendors.... Saying, "They are not worthy of your patronage" is kind of only hurting yourself....as savvy travelers will always look for bargains. Why limit your options? Sometimes you need to arrive at a particular time, and there are only a few airlines at some domestic airports to choose from.

Go google "cheap tickets" and see how this plays out over almost any smaller airline in the world. The price quoted is only an indication. Cebu Pacific sends me really weird "Special Prices"....but I know very well that the fees are never included...for example. Not actually lying...or dishonest. Just your perception. Child's play, buying tickets online...actually. I go for the bargains, as I am a frequent flyer. If I stuck with just one airlines (like Thai Smile)...I would lose thousands of baht over the period of one year.

However, if you feel you are a winner, by paying more....up 2 u whistling.gif

In fact...that leaves more seats open for me on Air Asia.....and more deals. thumbsup.gif

  5. For us lesser mortals who have to watch out baht, airasia is the best and cheapest, most punctual.

You must play be their rules, if the website foxes you go to a travel agent, it will still be much cheaper than competitors.

I regularly fly Bangkok to udon thani for 200baht and Hatyai for 250 baht

We are discussing REAL airplane flights, not those that are alcohol induced. 200 baht? Must be quite a broom.....

Actually those flight do exist. See what you are missing out on...over a bun and a bottle of water? Best time to check for those deals are early in the morning....4 am on Mondays.

  6. Human trafficking is well known. Several agencies used to exist (might still be there) in places like Manila. I actually was invited into an agency by a girl I met working in Japan. Her father was sleeping there (in the agency) and several girls were "frequent flyers". It was no secret, to the Philippine immigration people and the Japanese Immigration. people. My wife's niece, just flew to Japan, with three other girls, to work in a "coffee shop". After 5 years in Japan, I met only one girl who refused to sleep with customers. She was not beaten or punished. The only problem was she could not pay back the agency fees, and had to keep going back. Now, twenty years later, she is retired. I think she filled 10 contracts in countries around the word.

In short, I think the word gets out, amongst the girls. They usually go in groups. You can see them in the airport....especially in Japan. This thread is about Thailand...but it sure is not newsy.

  7. How many farang penises are cut off here in Thailand? I've never heard of one. I think the Thai ladies only cut off their Thai husbands penises for cheating. It's an emotional thing. With the farang/ATM they really don't care as long as the money keeps flowing.

    Good one ha ha

Obviously the farang penis is held in high regard...

  8. I almost changed my mind about telling this story, and then I thought....oh, why not?

Me and my lady were out in the countryside, just west of Udon Thani Town. We had just purchased a new vehicle, and were on the way to get it blessed by her cousin, the head Monk at the village temple.

Well, I had to go bad. But here is this guy, all dressed in orange, handing me the bowl of water and having me follow him around, as he doused his leaves in the bowl and showered the car. Next, he asked me to choose what color permanent marker from his hand...either red or white. You guessed it...I, regretfully, chose the red. So he gets in the driver's seat of my brand new car and starts painting dots and circles all over the interior....and the steering wheel. He then smiled at me..a bit too broadly, and we wai'd him and said thank you, as I was in a great hurry to relieve my aching bowels....for all this time.

So....we pull into a muddy field, where all the toilets were, and I ran into the first one. It was the Thai toilet design. I ran out, and checked several others....all the same. Well, I cannot squat. My thighs and knees will not work that way. What, you may ask did I do?

I stripped every piece of clothing I had on, and placed it near the door. This was going to be ugly. Turning slightly sideways, I braced myself with one hand on the back wall, and one foot on the front door. (Don;t ever try this...because it does not work). Suffice it to say, that was one hellish mess I had made. Not one spot on the toilet, mind you. Now here I am, naked, twisted and soiled. No water inside..of course. I open the door, fill up the bucket, run back inside ...and start splashing water everywhere, for about an hour.

As I walked out, to my shame, there stood the monk, who had just blessed my car. I politely wai'd, and shimmied off as quickly as possible. In a way, I had blessed their toilet right back. Farang style.
