  1. The vast majority of people in jail are because they really committed an offence against the law, they are not innocent. However the issue is what they should receive as punishment. Not to have liberty is already a huge punishment and really no need to let them endure the conditions which are presently to be found in Thai prisons. Another issue is the length of the punishments given which are sometimes incredible, like serving longer for selling a few ya ba pills than for committing murder.

  4. He has transformed the life of the poorest? What a joke. Transformed yes, but certainly not for the better! Shit article with the usual rubbish rhetoric that this is about a fight between elites and the poor....5555...... This is a fight about power between elites and nothing else! How can The Economist be so silly? Because they are Yankees who usually are not aware that there are other foreign countries on earth apart of Mexico and maybe Canada?

Usually I do not agree with the Kim dinasty but this time they are definitely right: the US are the worst human rights abusers on earth. This has been so for decades and did not change even with our darling Obama in power.

That's pretty ridiculous. Are you aware of what goes in NK? Maybe you aren't because they try very hard to hide it. The USA is open to see, warts and all.

Why North Korea? Is just a small country. The US however have been stamping their authority on the world for decades in totally non-respecting basic human rights. Did they ever sign an international convention? Guantamenao an example for respecting basic human rights? Nuclear bombing of Japan? The list of bad things the US has and does continue to do these days is long and has much more impact on the world than some small insignificant country.

When the headline says a foreigner is killed the first 10 comments are RIP and condolences to the family.

3 police die and the tone is very different, why ??

This is a tragedy, whatever the result of the investigation there are 3 policemen dead and 3 injured, the families of these men will suffer and it seems nobody cares.

You seem to be new to Thailand.... ask some ordinary people here if they like the police.....

You'd think Yingluck would sense on some level that things aren't quite right now. She dissolved parliament four and a half months ago. She quickly realized she couldn't visit her office. On the campaign trail she had to limit appearances to Chiang Mai and Isaan because she was so unpopular elsewhere. The EC saw the election wouldn't fly and tried to tell Pheu Thai. They wouldn't listen. They arranged a " forum " to overrule the EC. The Constitutional Court on January 24 affirmed that the election could be constitutionally delayed. Pheu Thai wouldn't listen. They went ahead. The election was a fiasco. Yingluck as a consequence has no legislative authority. None. Since December 9 she has had no publicly sanctioned mandate. None. She is the subject of an abuse of office charge that could result in her needing to step down. She is also subject to impeachment for her role in the rice scheme scandal. She hasn't been comfortable in many months touring Bangkok because of intense vocal opposition. On February 25 as a consequence she announced that she would work in surrounding provinces rather than in Bangkok. She has spent her time with facebook postings, where she has criticized the Constitutional Court and the National Anti-Corruption Commission. She has continually delayed testifying. And yet - today - she has apparently assimilated none of these as signals of disenchantment with her work. But she's selective. She wants to listen to the people, but she spends much time avoiding the people she doesn't want to listen to. She wants peace and order to prevail, yet she doesn't want to cooperate with the impeachment investigation or even the legal process in general. She's an island onto herself. Looking in.

And she knows that the people of Thailand support her, all she needs is an election to shut the vocal rich minority out once and for all.

We will have an election in this country, even the EC are now getting close to naming a date. when we have an election PTP will win yet again and we may even get reform of the Non-Independent agencies that have been blocking democracy for the last 4 months.

Yes, and so finally the Thaksin Dictatorship will be fully installed. We will eliminate all the non-reds and sing 5 times a day a praise song on the Shins. You are a bloody Fascist my dear!

  8. For once I migh disagree with most of you, whatever side you stay.

Violence will be very limited and short lived. This whole thing is just a big show. Once the winner is declared, the other side will more or less rapidly pack their bags. These extremists (which seem to be on the side of the reds) are a few idiots which will be either imprisoned, run away or just shut up as they cannot display their antics anymore once they are not protected anymore by the rulers.

  9. This story stinks. You want to tell me that in our super modern times it is not possible to say in which direction this Boeing was flying when even it is possible toclearly locate me all the time through my mobile phone?

Definitely they cover up something! Now who is they? Needless to think too long. Malaysia is under US influence. If it would have been a hijacking they would have come out with it immediately and find an excuse to occupate anothe oil producing country. So it can only be that our lovely friends accidentally shot down this plane.

  10. Let us be honest here.

Breathing leaves the Red Shirt movement vulnerable to clampdown.

Certainly in the case of oxygen thieves like Thida, Weng, Arisman, Kwanchai, Jatuporn and KohTee.

I understand why you stopped the list at just 6 names. It would take a considerable amount of time to type in the 15-16 million Thai names of like minded Reds.

15-16 Million like minded Reds? You are totally outdated my dear, that was maybe 3 years ago but now data shows clearly that the majority of Thais want Yingluck to step down immediately! So finally respect the will of the people!

It is the reds who are non-democratic in not respecting the will of people!

  11. Wow, quite a few responses to my thread but unfortunately no real information on what are the companies and consumer products which are controlled by the red shirts. Over simplistic things like any product coming from a farmer is rather hilarious. The election 3 years ago showed that there are many millions of non-red farmers.

May I assume that unfortunately nobody has a clue about this? Pretty amazing really... No wonder Kamnan Suthep was going for AIS....

  12. Total rubbish! There are many provinces in the North who never had a majority for Thaksin, so how do they want to set up a democratic Lanna Republic! Right now most people in the North do want a change in government. So maybe he is talking about the Republic of Phayao, though even there I believe that reds are in the minority right now. Start to believe that these red shirts do really diserve to be called water buffalos.

  13. Dear friends,

Could anybody share information on which companies are controlled by the present red shirt government? What are the consumer goods from these companies.

I am sure many of us would like to boycott those and the ones who are red shirt supporters might want to support them. So there is something for everybody in this information.

    Thanks

    JP

  14. He is lying! We all know that the Reds control some areas in the North and Northeast with previously a lot of sympathy of their residents but now in intimitating their residents with the help of violent and armed groups. There is nothing like a majority for the reds in the North and the Northeast anymore (at least in most places). If they call for seperation they must have the majority of the people behind them but they do not!
