  1. Accident cover (P.A.) : have to say 19k for just 500k of cover is rather expensive but then that is typical of banks. For 15k Baht we can offer 625k Baht of medical expenses arising from any accident but stress this is for accidents only and cannot be compared to medical insurance which also covers you for anything 'nasty' from appendix to a heart attack (heaven forbid !).

Please feel free to PM me should you want more information, Peter.

Yours looks expensive when I got 600k cover for 5k here...

As Stevenl has pointed out you are reading the benefits wrong - what the poster was asking for was medical expenses but what you have misread are the Death and disability benefits which is easily done but why one should seek help when buying insurances here as they are not always the same as one might be used to in the West.

  3. Pacific Cross offered Medical Insurance with LMG (Liberty Mutual Group) but now has its own Licence and from 1st November will offer Medical Insurance under its own name – Pacific Cross.

Therefore your Policy will be renewed and you will be contacted in the usual way with a full explanation.

Pacific Cross does offer Travel and P.A. but not Vehicle, Property etc., as that will continue to be offered by LMG.

AA Insurance Brokers will update all its clients both for LMG and Pacific Cross when renewals are due. For any further information please feel free to contact Pacific Cross or us direct :

  4. Interesting response AA, can you shed some example of All Biz Insurance for a small biz, cost, liabilities etc ?

Depends on what area of biz the small company is in but typically it will cover the building for damage plus :

Breakage of All Advertising and Neon Signs

    Alterations and Repairs

Fire Brigade Charges and Extinguishing Cost

    Removal of Debris

    Electrical Injury

    Repair Cost of Entrance

Rental Cost of Temporary Outlet [max 30 days]

    Money Insurance

    Employer’s Liability Insurance

    Public Liability Insurance

    Advertising and Neon Signs

    Fire and Explosion

    Food and Drink

    Tenants’ and Occupiers’ Liability

    Business Interruption Insurance

Again, depending on the type of biz it might need a survey but contact us and we can arrange everything for you.

  5. There are several companies who will offer cover for hotels both big and small so not a problem. May we suggest you look for an All Risks Business policy as not expensive (because they are standard packages) and will cover you not just for Public Liability but other things like Money Theft, Damage to the Building, Equipment inside etc. Also will cover the legal aspect of Employees Liability you have to have.

Drop us a line and we can suggest ideas for you.

  6. When one asks what the premiums are it is very difficult to answer as we all want differnt things. Below is an example of the Basic cover and from this the sky is the limit depending on the amount of benefit required.

  7. Some very sensible advice here, thanks very much.

Just for info, I don't smoke, don't ride a motorbike, and drink very moderately (I can go several months or more without drinking), I eat healthily, and exercise 4 times per week.

That said, I think, as some posters have already mentioned, it is always better to be safe than sorry, right?

Guess I better start looking for an insurance policy (yawn!)

    Thanks again guys!

To give you an idea of premiums for a full payment policy form Allianz, a 30 year old with a max benefit level of 16m Baht would be 20,000 Baht for this year for IPD (hospitalisation)

  8. I have had Bangkok Bank's Accident Insurance since coming to Thailand three years ago. Cautionary notes are that the claim limit is very low by western standards at 30,000 baht. Also, they have a separate policy if you ride a scooter or motorbike so if you do, even occasionally as a passenger (motorcycle taxi?), pay the extra. Contrary to what they say about major hospitals taking their card for direct billing, I have found this not to be the case. However, when I did have a small claim, they paid it directly into my account in a reasonable amount of time. I am sufficiently impressed enough to carry this policy always. But I do have a costly HCI policy as well. I was enrolled, as farangs were once allowed, in the Thai government health insurance program but they quickly discontinued eligibility for farangs and reimbursed the premiums paid (but not time spent!). You were not given choice of government hospital except in the case of critical illness/injury so it was not the greatest.

The 'low' medical benefit you mentioned is because you bought the policy in a Bank - BKK Ins does in fact offer far higher medical benefits should you chose

  9. Stefan

There are a few choices open for you and your family depending on your age and the amount you want insured.

These can include deductibles and also co-payments should you chose.

May we suggest you go HERE and send your personal details ?

Note : Stevenl is correct, Accident Insurance commonly known as P.A. is, as the name suggests, only for accidents and should not be confused with medical/health insurance.

  10. The type of Visa you may have does not matter when applying for health insurance - example should you wish to change to a retirement visa when you are a older.

I thought being older would increase the risk of becoming sick making the health insurance more expensive.

Naturally as you get older the premium will increase, that goes without saying, but I was answering your question about elegibility with differnt types of Visa.

  11. This is typical practice after the first year for both vehicles and bikes - your name & details are passed on to a third party who can 'share' the commission.

The first thing is to make sure they are indeed brokers - ask for a copy of their license/check on the OIC web site - and make sure you only transfer the premium to the account whose name is on the license.

Second, do not be pushed into taking the first quote, ask other Brokers and check the reliability of the insurance companies being offered - not all insurance companies are equal !

  12. Keeping in mind where we are. The Driving School will have insured their vehicles ‘Any Driver’ 1st Class.

Should the learner (therefore no DL) causes the accident the other (third) party will be paid out from the vehicles 1st Class policy – however there will be no payment for the School’s vehicle (that will be between the parties involved to sort out).

Not satisfactory but that’s all there is.

  13. Should you wish to pass on the insurance to the new owner of your vehicle (FOC or a monetary value) there is a simple process where you inform your Broker of the new owners name / address and copy of passport - the Broker will then (for no charge) arrange for an endorsement from the insurance company stating the new policy holder.

  14. Under Road Protection Act, B.E. 2535 or legal mandatory under Thai law, every car-owner is required to carry Compulsory Third Party Liability Insurance cover death and bodily injury of a third party caused by an insured vehicle.

    Limit of Liability*

    Coverage

    Per Person (Baht)

    Per Occurrence (Baht)

    (1) Third Party Bodily Injury

    50,000

    -

    (2) Third Party Accidental Death or Disability

    200,000

5,000,000 (vehicle of 7 seats and less)

    10,000,000 (over 7 seats)

    (3) Daily payment to cover loss of earnings in the event of Hospitalisation (as an inpatient) Baht 200 per day (maximum 20 days per occurrence) Maximum sum insured combination of (1) (2) and (3) is limited up to Baht 204,000 per person in aggregate

*For injured third party or other party which is proven to be not at fault. The liability is covered to anyone injured or killed in an accident

    Basic Coverage
The Company will pay the injured party for medical expenses in case of bodily injury and funeral expenses in case of loss of life without waiting for proof of guilt. The Company will indemnify the injured party or his heir within 7 days from the date of claim submission. This indemnity is called Preliminary Compensation.

For Bodily Injury: The Company will pay actual medical expenses and other expenses necessarily incurred for treatment up to Baht 15,000.

For loss of organ or permanent disability

For Death: The Company will pay funeral expenses and other expenses necessarily incurred for funeral arrangements at Baht 35,000.

As for Third Party insurance to cover Third Party property then that is available - called 3rd Class
