  1. This month’s Q & A will be on Vehicle insurance. This covers all things (legal !) on the roads, from large lorries to pick-ups, cars and motorbikes – both large and small capacity.

Dean has again agreed to offer his establishment as a venue so we shall be at Papa Farang’s on :
    Thursday 21st, starting at 13.00

Everyone welcome and refreshments will be offered.
Do bring any policies you may not understand and we shall do our best to help.

  2. 1MB cover suitable for a modest condo would be perhaps 2500B/year and this should include some personal liability cover.

Whilst I may be prepared to take my chances with the theft of my own items (I dont consider this to be at all likely in my building), I would be more concerned about a possible bill if my toilet developed a water leak and flooded the downstairs unit with something evil. Or if my condo flooded and it damaged my own fitted woodwork or laminated flooring etc. Or even if the sprinklers went off for no reason whilst I was out.

There is also the question of whether the building insurance is enough to cover the interior fittings of a unit (kitchen, bathroom, tiles, lighting) as well as the concrete structure.

Please read my previous post, the Building Insurance will only cover the structure i.e if the whole condo fell down it would be rebuilt but all you will get is a concrete box no Kitchen, Bathroom, tiles etc - that is what your Condo insurance should cover when you buy it.

  3. The building insurance taken by the Juristic person is enough (or should be - check !) forrebuilding the structure but you are responsible for everything else.e.g. your ceiling, floor, kitchen, bathroom etc. The cost of 'condo' insurance is not expensive but it could save you a great deal e.g. your pipe breaks and it dumps water on the occupant of the unit below you

  4. How long is a piece of string and asking that sort of question on a forum will bring out so many different answers you will be even more confused.

Medical insurance is the most difficult as we are all different, our needs are different and things like budgets are different so there is no one easy answer,

At AA Insurance Brokers we ask questions before recommending certain policies and then only those companies whose service/claims records are good.

  7. There are many small insurance companies in Thailand all wanting business and they do this by cutting premiums. However something has to give and you will only find out when trying to claim.

Suggest staying with the 'foreigner friendly' companies - ask your Broker to help or, for a reliable company, please go HERE for a quote.

  8. There are many options for Expats but with any financial transaction do please read the small print - not all policies are the same. We can offer very competitive rates but these will be based off shore i.e. Singapore, HK etc. This is because the rates within Thailand - governed by the OIC - are fixed and tend to be far more expensive.

  9. Quite correct, you do not have to state where the bike is being kept for the insurance and the bikes are insured for any Driver.

Should the driver not have a valid license for a bike then the insurance is naturally void i.e. he is riding it illegally.

Stolen bike : this depends on different companies but 8 weeks is not long to pay out on a total loss – the companies have to check the bike has disappeared and it not an elaborate scam.
