Sorry not in Thailand
-
The first problem you have is that you are dealing with a bank - 9 times out of 10 they only offer to sell insurance not help or back up as they do not know.
This is a typical case. You say you have 2nd Class but then the Bank is telling you that you have a NCB ? Very interesting, can you name the company ?
You say you wish to up the cover to 2+1 then that is very straightforward and the premium should have been offered.
In Thailand the NCB is on the vehicle for 1st Class

Yes you can, it is called 1st Class insurance. As for what type of repair, you can choose between a Dealer repair or a Contracted repair.

I just renewed my Class one insurance on a two year old Toyota pickup. The cost was about 19,000 baht. I have two questions:
1. did I pay too much?
2. I am out of the country for six months. Can I suspend my insurance and get a refund, then continue the insurance when I return in June?
Any advice?
Your answers :
1. This depends on so many variables i.e. what model, what value, how many drivers, what deductible, what NCB to name just 5. More importantly is the actual insurance company as there are many in Thailand that any self respecting Broker would not touch - even if they happen to be cheaper. As with all things you get what you pay for but with insurance you do not find out until you need to claim.
2. Yes you can cancel the cover (just tell your Broker) but note you will need to start again and lose any NCB you might have accrued

Quite correct Stevenl as we all have different needs - and budgets ! However Meechai now has all the information and can report back on his decision if he wishes.
May I take this opportunity to thank everyone who posts on this Forum and to wish everyone a Happy New Year

Yes it does - as I mentioned in my Post 29. Send me a PM and we can arrange to discuss.

Unfortunately P.A. policies do not cover medical expenses more than 600k Baht (which is not always sufficient for serious injuries) so the only sensible option is a proper medical policy which covers not just accidents but any other problem you may have and need hospitalisation.
Yes but at what premium?
Most of the health care/medical in patient policies I have seen like LMG's executive plan ( their highest coverage )
runs just under 20,000 baht a year ( for my age group over 55 under 60 ) yet covers only 646,000 max limit per disability anyway.
So what specific policies would you suggest at a reasonable yearly cost that exceeds a PA policy?
First let me repeat, PA insurance is no substitute for medical insurance.
LMG - what you say is incorrect LMG do offer a higher (full payment) policy.
As an example of a company/policy there are the Allianz policies, one for your age costing $1,816 and covering (full) [payment up to $500,000 - enough for any accident/health problem

I'm with Bupa as well but I pay about 45,000 annually. Apparently it is the best plan they offer. The cost goes up for me once I hit 50, which just happened. I worry I may be over-insured and may start a new thread on that before renewing next February.
You can never have 'too much' medical insurance as should you ever need to call on it for something serious you always wish you had bought the next plan up.
With BUPA you cannot be over insured as the max they can offer is 5m Baht which, at today's rates, would cover you for most things but will not be nearly enough when you get older and will need to call on it.

Agreed very silly to depend on just the vehicle insurance - but in any case your medical insurance would cover what is owed on top of the vehicle (or any other) cover.
-
Recommendations depend on whether you think 2m Baht is sufficient coverage. Even today, for something serious, 2m in an International hospital can disappear quickly so in 20 or 30 years how far do you think it will go ?
Medical insurance unlike any other insurance is for the long term and you need to look well ahead and plan the best you can.

thanks for all the answers guys.
we bought the car today, and he said he wanted 5,000 for the insurance to be transferred (as he previously thought it could not be transferred, so has factored in the refund he will get from his insurers, into the final asking price)
i thought this was fair enough, and did not take the insurance, so he is due to cancel 2moro
i did not think of the no claims bonus mentioned above tho. would we be able to transfer the policy and retain the NCB you think?
it is a 250,000B chevvy (altho 940,000B 7 years ago when new, and still looks great, with low 55,000km mileage)
he said that the first class insurance he has, could be transferred for the remaining 6 months of the policy, but would not be allowed to be extended after this (as it is first class or something)..... i guess this means no NCB if he is correct
or am i better of texting him and telling him not to cancel the policy and offering him 5,000B ?
Take it !!

If it's a good value insurance, than try to keep it...offer the 'old' owner some money for it,that should be easier than shopping for the new policy...
And if there are afew years NCB built in then it would be very good value

You are correct when you say the insurance is with the vehicle but if the seller wants to cancel the insurance when he passes the vehicle on to you then he can.
However it is perfectly normal to change the insured name on the policy to yours – then the insurance will continue to the expiry date.
If you need help with the transfer please feel free to send a PM to us.

Whoever is named as the Beneficiary on the policy is the one who will be paid out but we would also suggest that the policy is listed in your Will together with the Beneficiary
-
If you are looking for accident cover then buy a P.A.(persobal Accident) policy as not expensive and will last the year.
-
Yes you can but coverage is only offered by a few companies - HERE
-
Your employer/company can apply for a PL/PI policy
-
There are many companies offering different levels of coverage for Travel insurance. If you tell us what level you are looking for we can offer options for you to decide HERE
-
The above 2 posts are correct - you do not need to 'transfer' the Government insurance.
Theft insurance : this cover can be bought but note this is 2nd Class (Third Party, Fire & Theft) and not 'comprehensive' which is 1st Class and also covers damage to your bike.
For a quote please go HERE
The insurance is transferred with the vehicle. At least it was with the last three vehicles we sold.
Jerry
Sorry but the 2nd Class (and 1st, 3rd and all other voluntary insurances) are not transferred with the vehicle automatically - you need to inform your Broker/Insurance company of the change of name (Policy holder)
-
The reason people (you are certainly not alone) get these calls is because the Dealers sell their customer information to anyone who wants to buy it. Suggesting they can prepare(?) to renew a policy due next March is nonsense and smacks of desperation. Example, what happens to the quote if you have a claim before then …………….
Best advice is wait until 2 or 3 weeks before expiry date then contact your Broker with all the information and let them go to work for you.
-
for car accidents I am insured but not if anything happens in house, garden e.c.t.you can PM me if you can advise a company
For a sensible PA policy 80 is the upper limit
age limit for accident insurance?Bupa. does both.
PM's sent

I now have the insurance from AXA with dealer repairs - 35.000 THB.
I wonder why are you paying so much? I pay much less than half of that (barely a third actually) for my pickup of similar value.
Very simple, different vehicles have different rates plus different insurance companies offer different services. This is why quoting premiums without knowing the full background information can be misleading.
-
Quite correct IMHO - leave it to your insurance company to sort out but do let your Broker know. As you did not cause the damage your NCB will be safe.

Any good insurances available in Thailand?

Interesting post and one that many who insure with them should check.
You need to remember AIA is a Life Insurance company and not a specialist Medical Insurance company.
Looking at your premiums you seem to have been overcharged as for less premium for you and the family you can get a policy from Allianz with far more cover than you have from AIA (in excess of 15m Baht) which includes accidents – yes lifting weights – and cancer !
May we suggest you PM for details on your personal needs ?
