From the way your write it sounds as though you do not have Health Insurance but Travel Insurance ?
If that is the case then Travel policies are individual and one needs to apply every time you need the cover. Health polices are different as they are renewed and unlike Thailand in Europe companies cannot cancel the Health policy by law.

Sorry but your explanation is not totally clear.
From what you said you had an accident, that you caused, so the other party called their insurance company and they sent out their engineer.
Question, did you call your insurance company and did they send out an engineer on your behalf ?

MrWorldwide
From reading your post you are living in Thailand - not here on holiday ? If that is the case then the Sunshine plan is not suitable as only for 6 months.
FYI the premium for a 55 year old for Platinum 5m is 56k Baht.
There are many other companies & plans out there e.g. an Allianz plan for a little less premium but with 15m Baht of full cover.
Should you need help / quotes please go HERE

Stevenl is quite right, there are several Thai insurance companies offering only health insurance - examples being BUPA, LMG, Thai Health and so on. We tend to favour Thai Health due to their quick service, claims clearance with our customers but all are good.
And I have to say (being a Broker) why not use a Brokers service - no extra charge but you do get the choice of all and help along the line

Repatriation
Personal Liability
Trip Cancellation
Travel Delay (8 hours / 1,000 Baht)
Flight Misconnection (8 hours / 1,000 Baht)
Trip Curtailment
Baggage Delay (8 hours / 1,000 Baht)
Loss or Damage of Baggage & Personal Effects
Loss or Damage of Personal Money and Travel Cheque
Loss or Damage of Travel Document
Compassionate Visitation Benefit

Automatic Extension of Travel Period (Maximum 15 days)
Hospital Income Benefit

As Stevenl has mentioned the 100k Baht is the limit and that is only because the government stepped in. Do note there are some flood prone areas that even that benefit may not be offered.
-
With your example, if you cause 1m Baht of damage to a Third Party's property (remember it does not just mean bricks and mortar) plus your vehicle is a loss (with an insured value of 2m Baht) then the claim would be for 3m Baht - you would not have to pay 1m Baht.
-
Property damage is not confined to only other vehicles (or real estate) but any property not owned by the insured.
-
I would suggest what you mean by Grade C is 3rd Class ? If that is the case then no you are not covered as 3rd Class is for Third Party damage only.
To insure against the problem you had one needs 1st Class, and that will depend on the vehicles age.

Generally you will be insured as long as you are not actually taking part e.g. should you be walking near and get hit by a stray(?) bullet then you are insured.
To be 100% sure call your Broker and ask about your policy conditions.

Sorry but the policies are not linked to inflation - note the Thai Health plans, although are very good, are just the basics and the benefits will not cover all the bills in (say) 10 years time for something serious at a Private/International hospital.
-
Yes we can supply plain Life cover to foreigners but as you correctly said it is more expensive than Western premiums. Note - it cost no more buying from us than trying to buy direct !
Please contact us for more information.
-
Sorry if this sounds convoluted – the direct answer is no, one needs to take Travel Insurance before you leave, however we can supply insurance if you are travelling around Thailand i.e. not staying in one hotel for the holiday but touring Thailand.
Another option is PA (Personal Accident) which obviously covers one for accidents but not natural problem e.g. a heart attack.
-
There are a few plans which may fit your requirements - depending on age, pre-existing conditions etc. and we can even offer you a USD10,000 Deductible if you so wish + co-payment.
For Medical insurance no one plan/policy will fit all but please go HERE and we shall offer the one to suit you.
-
As you will be in S.E.A. for a few years with a possibility of staying on we would not suggest a full International medical policy - you would only be paying for coverage you do not need.
Instead we suggest a policy designed for S.E.A. which has a lower premium (due to lower costs here) but typically more than sufficient coverage e.g. USD1m

No such policy sorry - only way to do what you want is cancel the 1st Class, take out 2nd Class then change back on your return - not worth the trouble.
-
To be sure suggest drive your car to Ubon - and save the bus/air fare ?
The vehicle in Ubon should have the basic Government insurance so yes, she would be legal to drive but with minimal cover. If her friend has any other insurance then you can check the policy wording and see what it says BUT in any case check the expiry date on whatever policy the vehicle has.
-
Presumably you want cover for the vehicle even though you are not here for the majority of the year and, as it is only 2 years old, why not keep the 1st Class ?
Apart from being able to jump in and drive on your return without worry, should there an unforeseen accident while you were away, then the car would be insured – unless your MIL decided to take it for a drive ……….
Note : you can keep the 1st Class longer than just another 2 years.
-
What about those exclusions, when you have some do you get discount on the premium then?
Not usually

Travel Insurance and Health Insurance is not the same - in any country.
From the Mondial website FAQ :
