I can remember seeing a takeaway in South London called MacTuckeys. It sold burgars, ribs and fried chicken.

Just had 5 minutes here in Taling Nam then stopped but the sky is looking full of it. Hopefully by morning the tanks will be a little fuller

book return tickets on bus/boat to Samui with Seatran, other company takes you to a deserted pier with less than helpful taxi drivers. At the Seatran pier, there is a small town. Hire the car there.
The OP states he is hiring a car at the airport. As I stated if he books with the "Deserted pier " he can book a return ticket at the same time unlike the other ferry that takes to to a populated pier with the exact same unfriendly and unhelpful taxi drivers. They will also be happy to offer you a rusting, aged and knackered old Suzuki Caribbean for a 1000 Baht a day. Just the car I'm sure the OP is looking for
Hence getting the car at the airport

My friend highly rates the tyre place just after Nathon heading towards Taling Nam / Lamai. Just after the traffic lights for Nikki Beach and the Raja ferry is a 7/11 on the right. Opposite is a tyre place. My friend uses it all the time. Pop in and ask for a quote.

For around the last 8 months or more now I have been buying what I thought were KFC branded eggs and other chicken products. I have no complaints about the quality of anything I have bought and the the last pack of extra large eggs gave me a double yolk in every egg. I wonder what the odds for that are ? Today in Tesco I picked up a packet of KFC egg sausages. Something I had never seen before nor heard of. It was only when I was looking closer at the package to see if there was anything on there to give me a further clue as to just what an egg sausage was I noticed that it wasn't in fact a KFC product but rather a KCF product. The exact same colour and type font used by KFC and upon a quick glance it has fooled me for months. When I checked the extra large eggs I like they were again KCF.
This isn't a rant nor complaint but rather an acknowledgement of a well designed package that has I presume done exactly what it was designed to do without breaking the law.
Well done that man / woman !

Ask the Land Registry on Pattata Tai Soi 17 who the owner is. For a small donation I'm sure they'll tell you. BTW there are houses that have been abandoned by ex-pats who have gone home. One such is just round the corner from my place. He was reputed to be an US lawyer. When it was clear that he wasn't returning any time son, a Thai family took possession by squatting. They've been there 8 years now.
Try this with a house / property that belongs to a Thai... you will get some unexpected visits by a very extended family....
If you actually thought about what you posted for one second you would realise that if there were any Thai extended family about then the house would already be occupied.
The fact it has been empty for years tells me it is more likely an abandoned Farang house.

I find that these Farang ladies perfectly compliment the many old, fat, balding and ugly Farang males that wonder about the country with very young attractive Thai ladies on their arms. A perfect balance !
I on the other hand am in a minority of being handsome and successful as well

The ferry is about an hours drive and the ferries to Samui leave every hour till 7pm. You can easily do it. A return ticket for the car and the driver is just under 1000 Baht and an additional passenger is 140 Baht or thereabouts. If you book with the Raja ferry rather than with the Seatran you can book your return ticket at the time of departure so when you come to leave you do not have to queue.

Changing your oil and filter every 5000km is what I do. both bike car and truck. Keep your fluids good and today's modern engines will run for ever.

I doubt that they will give him a decent amount. What bike, how old ? etc. maybe someone here would consider it ?
Maybe sell it and get a cheaper run around ?

If the car is in Singapore and is registered there then simply drive it in. You will be given a temporary import license for it and will have to drive out and back in again every 6 months I think it is. My friend did this with his motorcycle. It worked out far cheaper and gives him the excuse to do a road trip every 6 months.

Cheers. I will give it a look when go to try Tops. No wonder I could never find it as was looking in the totally wrong place.

I bought a car. it came with a perfectly functional CD / radio sound system. I chose to replace it with a different one that had a reversing camera, TV, DVD, Sat Nav etc.
Why haven't any car manufacturers been fined for providing me with a car that not only drives me to where I want to go but has the nerve to provide me with a free sound system which I may not want for free ?
No different to Microsoft doing the same with Windows.

There is a place just opened here on Samui selling the same type of thing. Comes with various different bodies and engines up to 375cc I'm led to believe. Cheap if you can't afford a pick up.

Mario Hi. I ran it under the tap for a minute or so and at the time it didn't really hurt that much. it is just today got a bit of a shock when I took my shower and there is this large, about the size of a garden slug bubble appeared on my hand. Again not really painful; as such just a little uncomfortable.
I need to look out for a good old oven glove which I have been saying I was going to do for years here but never got round to it. Maybe after this I will finally get one
Cheers again Bert

Hi, I have an American friend who lives in Hua Hin. He pops down every now and then for a visit. He says that there they have a regular book exchange. People meet up and swap their reading matter between themselves. Anything similar happen here ? I have lots of books stuck in a couple of plastic boxes which could do with a new owner or two. Just a thought !

I have tried the ring pull can type but they are not the same as your British Kipper. They are more your Scandinavian type fish. The boil in the bag sound like the ones back home.
I have heard of Calibri but the couple of times I've tried to find it I have failed miserably

I would suggest it is more down to what you do after you have eaten than what you have eaten or how fast you have eaten it
-
Thanks for that. Expensive yes but sometimes you just have to satisfy that urge and as they say
" I'm worth it "'
Tops it is then
Cheers Bert

Is there anywhere on this fine island that has Kippers ? I can't remember seeing any since coming here. Any pointers would be appreciated as have the sudden urge for Kippers on toast.

I have always used the spare as just that. A get you home or to the garage tyre. As soon as the punctured tyre is fixed or replaced the spare goes back in the boot. They tend to be a steel wheel against mag wheel as well and in modern cars they are the space saver type. I do though rotate the wheels on the car.

Thanks for the quick reply. I am as you say just keeping it moist with Dettol anti septic cream
Cheers again.

Just a quick one for a little advice. Whilst making some Yorkshire pudding yesterday while getting the tray out of the oven I spilt some hot oil on my hand between my finger and thumb. Not that painful and the joy of eating the puddings took away any pain
This morning however there is a large blister between my finger and thumb filled with water. Do I just leave it as it is or do I lance it and cover it ? It isn't painful just a little uncomfortable. Thanks Bert

The glue traps you get from the 7/11 are very effective. Every time I had seen signs of rats I have placed one out and it has been there the next morning firmly secured.
Book Exchange ?
in Koh Samui, Koh Phangan, Koh Tao

I know there are plenty of bookshops around the island. If I didn't I would have asked where to find one. The idea was to meet and socialise at the same time as swapping some reading matter. it appears the forum members here don't do socialising too much. Not too worry. I will save them till I move.
