  1. Hi. I was talking to a man and his wife here for a little break and he was telling me he did a course on growing mushrooms at the university in Ubon. Does anyone have any information on this course etc. The wife and I are looking to move to our land near there and I sounds like something I could get into to beat the boredom. Thanks in advance people. Bert biggrin.png

  2. I was wondering if anyone could help ? For the last couple of days whenever I am on TV my spell checker doesn't work. It works on other sites but not here. I am running Windows 7 using Chrome and ABC spell checker for Chrome.

Also when I open a posting that I have either read some posts or even posted on I always go to the first post. Also some postings have the options of going to the first unread post but the majority do not. Any ideas ?

    Cheers from an idiot whistling.gif

It may help in any replies to know this thumbsup.gif

  3. Mine is behaving strangely as well so I started to use Exp. again, don't know what is wrong with G.C. , sorry not of much help.

Goggle search engine is also behaving strange on all browsers, it don't direct me onto the site I want and this even when I click of one of my book marked sites??

Anybody that can recommend a good search engine (sorry for "sealing" OP's topic), but they are closely related after all.

I use Start Page. it uses Google but does so on your behalf so Google cannot track anything you search for whistling.gif

  4. Evidently a scientific survey has deduced that Englishmen are larger in the trouser snake department than the garlic, munching surrender monkeys, the French whistling.gif

If my brain falls out my ass, will i cope with some of the moronic posts on here better?

It can only make it less stressful than it gets now reading some of the new posters certainly biggrin.png

Should i put my brain in the bin, and just smile sweetly no matter what my man says?

It can again only makes things easier to take. As you well know we are always right so arguing is a pointless execrcise

I do hope this helped wai.gif

  5. Today is evidently a Buddha day so the wife is engaged in keeping the big man sweet so left me at a loose end. I decided to have a day in the kitchen. This morning I knocked up some crumpets which I had for a late breakfast smothered in butter and this afternoon made a batch of lovely tangy mango chutney and some chilli apple and date chutney. I also made some garlic and onion Naan breads to freeze so all set for a curry night. Going to freeze some of the crumpets to see how they freeze so I can make up a good batch at a time. Also have a duck marinating tonight and will dry it out tomorrow for Peking duck. All in all a very enjoyable day. just what Sundays are for

    Its a hard life thumbsup.gif

  6. The wife said there was some well to do Thai guy blasted a few nights ago in a restaurant over a big land deal but details were scarce. I also heard of a German getting stabbed as well.

As poor as the Thai reporting is, stabbings and shootings they tend to get right.

Starting to get like Pattaya or Phuket these days.

  7. How long does it take to find the owner of a vehicle, when they have the licence number? Its shouldnt be rocket science to find out, isnt that what the number is for, or maybe just lucky number for the lottery!

I think you will find that the owner of the motorcycle wasn't the person responsible for throwing said motorcycle over the wall.

Finding the owner isn't going to solve the crime

  8. I think that if they ever relax the rules for foreigners owning land and houses here Thailand will only change for the worse. In a few years no Thai would be able to buy land or afford a decent house. If you don't have a Thai wife you can trust to own it then simply rent.

I would also like to try and stop prostitution in Thailand.

With serious jail time and heavy fines for sellers and purchasers, along with compulsory deportation for foreign offenders and their passport stamped 'never to return to Thailand, uses prostitutes' for all the world to see.

But I suspect that wouldn't be popular with many TV members

I have never understood why Governments nor anyone feels the need to interfere with what is a basic business deal.If someone is willing to pay for sexual services and there is somebody perfectly willing to provide those services of their own free will then what has it to do with anyone else apart from the two people ? especially when you legislate against it.

The only thing I would like to see is for them to make it a little easier to stay here and stop making you jump through hoops just for the pleasure

  9. Could you tell me which of the posters here are Thai and complaining about the lack of water ? I have never heard a poor Thai complain about the water or lack of it. My post was aimed at the farangs here and offering a solution. I also have never seen a house where a small 2000 litre tank could not be fitted and used as a back up.

I have always said that there are only two types of people in the world.

Those who see problems and those that see instead solutions.

Sorry Bert - I have no idea of the Nationality of posters on this thread.

All of my staff, and most of the Thais that I deal with on a day to day basis are complaining about lack of water at their properties.

Perhaps you should get out more. Many small Thai businesses/houses are built to the boundaries.

Most Thais on Samui do not own the property where they live, so - there you are renting a small 'box' to live in for 1,000 baht per month. How do you convince the landlord to put in a water tank?

As to the Farangs - I do not know the percentage of rented/owned properties, but I would guess that very few Thai landlords would want to go to the expense of installing water tanks without increasing rents.

Of course - the canny ones do have water tanks installed, and charge more rent.

I doubt that there is a farang owned house being built anywhere on the island that does not have a water tank.

Your solution is realistic - if the owner of the property allows the renter to install the tank and if the renter is prepared to pay for the installation (not likely for short time renters). The last water tank that I bought was 6,900 baht. (An above-ground fibreglass one.) That is a significant amount of money to a lot of people.

Tropical you are missing my point totally.

I fully understand that THAI'S can't afford a fraction of what we can. This isn't a Thai forum. My suggestions were and are aimed at Farangs here who may be suffering through lack of water. I don't need to get out any more thanks. I already help and assist the locals often. Complain they do but never once heard them moan about lack of water.

Nearly every house I have lived in even the rented ones I have put in a small tank and pump. I fully realise that the place I have chosen to live isn't like back home so I make preparations. The water pressure / supply is poor no matter where you go in Thailand. Hence the tank and small pump. The electricity is erratic to say the least here hence the generator.

Less than 10,000 Baht will keep the water flowing when the Government has none or the pressure is poor.

In the rented houses I have put them into the landlord has never objected and I simply leave them in situ when I leave. Maybe that is why I always have my deposit returned wink.png

As said you either see problems or solutions.

  10. There is a guy just outside Nathon that has fixed eveything I have given him. Coming from Nathon towards Lamai you hit the traffic lights for Nikki beach / Raja ferry. continue ahead and he is next to the 7/11 on the right. he sorted the washing machine out and was reasonable. He mainly does washers and fridges. I'm sure he will come take a look

  11. You maybe able to literally translate the words but the meaning is beyond them. I have tried to get this very same thing over with my Thai friends. Their logic is everything is fine till it breaks or stops working then fix it. I still wouldn't live anywhere else though thumbsup.gif

  12. If you are feeling opulent then the Centara on Chawang beach road takes some beating. You name it and they have it there for you to help yourself. Also heard good things about the Bangrak cafe if it is a full English you are after. There used to be a very good one that was a sponsor but I think he had to go back home.

  14. My friend bought a Toyota from Nakon Si Tammaret. It came with the red plates. He drove it from there to Samui. A couple of months later he drove up to Issan for a while going through many check points and at night and not a single bit of bother. The only comment he got about the plates was they were very lucky. 9999. Another friend had his pick up for over 6 months and did the same with no plate. Anytime he was stopped he simply showed the receipt and was on his way.
