  1. Yes, it was a 50/50 to post in bike or general forum,

since there isnt any thai traffic law forum to my knowledge

You could post it any of the many forums here and the response you would get would be the same. You have broken the law and been fined. Get over the fact and just enjoy.

Back in the UK you would be looking at penalty points on your license plus a fine of around 6000 Baht plus the cost of your already expensive insurance would rise. here it is around 8 pounds and end of story !

If getting fined 400 Baht ruins your week then Thailand may not be the place for you.

At least here the fine you with a smile thumbsup.gif

  2. If i want to contest this in court of law, how do I proceed ?

    <deleted> >???

You want to contest a fine of 400 Baht blink.png

How much do you think a solicitor / lawyer is going to cost to contest this heinous crime that has befallen you ? cheesy.gif

  3. I have had the wife make up the master bedroom and light an incense stick just in case. She is most welcome to stay here away from the crowds if she wants. Anyone know why the need to move around the country to hold these meetings ? doesn't seem the brightest of plans no matter which way you look at it.

Have we to expect lots of those silly hand clapper thingys that were popular a while back when they were all arguing ?

best stock up on the beer for the weekend then.

Anyone else notice it has dropped in price ?

    bargain !

  4. granted nearly 10 years isn't long is it. What has living here for a long time got to do with how Thai's elect their government. What has it got to do with either me or you ?

Well then perhaps you should know better. It starts with very poor people being given certain incentives.

or with the last one it was the the rich getting the incentives ?

And you call me naive !

As said the one you don't like was democratically elected. the fact you don't agree with it makes not a bit of difference.

The bunch in office here are no different to the thieving corrupt lot of politicians back in the UK. Labour used social security benefits ( people in Issan and poor ) as a method of getting people to vote for them. The other lot like the last lot here used the rich / big business to get elected by giving them tax breaks and favours!

It is called politics and has been going on for decades !

I don't get involved with politics here because I can't do or change anything

But when it comes down to it I would rather the very poor were given favours than the already very rich but that is just me.

  5. Am sure the hotel will be Samui Palm Beach in Bophut as traffic cones have been set up for a day or 2 already for about 100m both sides of the main road. Same with the School of Tourism where the meeting is taking place. The police have set up their fancy tented HQ complete with gas cooker and pots and pans opposite the school. A few big signs up with a pic of Miss. Popularity gleaming a smile are to be seen around the island too.

Which is owned by the ever-popular Bangkok Airways . . .

    R

I would think that Miss Popularity will arrive with TG though.....

As much as the many smug Farangs seem not to like her, enough Thai people, and whose country it is liked her enough to elect her as PM thumbsup.gif

I think it is called Democracy !

Something we in the West only seem to like when the person we want to win wins ! whistling.gif

  6. Yep, my wife drives a big pickup, no DL, therefore no insurance ....... same as about 50% of the Thai population.

Very naughty, and you know that if she kills someone and has a farang husband. w00t.gif

She has a police brother ........ she's not worried at all.

    As for me,

You ever tried to stop a wife/gf doing something ....... anything?

How did that work out for you?

    Yep MOst certainly did.

The wife wanted a bike I said sure go get a license I get you a bike. She got the bike.

Wife says she wants a new car. sure no problem just go get a license and I get you one. She takes 15 hours of lessons and some from me and gets a license. No license then no car / bike

Which part of this are you having a problem with ?

  7. Rest in peace and condolences to the families. Hitting a parked van at the very side of a 3 or more lane road is surely nothing one would expect. How's the traffic there at 6:30 am?

My condolences as well. The holes in the swiss cheese lined up for the deceased. In Thailand it seems that the swiss cheese has few slices and many sizeable holes. Defensive driving says that a stalled vehicle will almost inevitably get rear-ended. In situations like this (the van was effectively 'stalled') people in the stalled vehicle are instructed (USA) to exit the vehicle and walk down-road away from the vehicle and wait for the highly-probable rear-end collision. With a stall on a bridge, even a multi-lane one, it is particularly dangerous to remain with the vehicle.

Speculation about whether or not the van driver had placed diversion reflectors or flares behind his van would seem to be futile. Did he even think to activate his parking flashers or, at least, leave his lights on?

Where on earth do you get the suddenly stalled vehicle nonsense from ? The driver has stated he was parked up waiting for a customer who was going to BKK.

You see these same vehicles parked everywhere and most parked illegally and 99% of people avoid riding into the back of them at high speed.

Are the people here trying to ignore this fact people who do exactly the same thing ?

  8. If illegally parked cars and minibuses caused this accident like some people here are trying to make out then there would be carnage throughout the country. As it is the vast majority of sober people both Thai and Farang riding their motorbikes in a reasonable manner manage to avoid these very collisions every day without any accidents or mishaps.

Drunken idiots riding at great speed after a night on the town tend to end up as this guy did and this time sadly taking an innocent young girl with him
