  1. FYI: first service cost for a Ford Ranger should be 3,410 THB (WT 3.2 4x4) with the biggest junk being synthetic oil at 2,200 THB.

    Everest (3.2L 4x4) should be 3,655 THB.

Therefore, he probably agreed to change something apart from the regular service.

Also Ford actually changes the AC filter in the car. Mitsubishi doesn't.

if you buy the AC filter for your a triton or PJS you pay an additional 750 THB.

So if we really want to compare cost of service then we should compare.

Ford Engine Oil: 2,200 THB + 570 THB - Synthetic Oil (Engine + Filter + Pan)

    Ford Oil Filter: 245 THB

    Oil Washer Plug: 35 THB

    Odour Filter: 300 THB

Balancing Weight for your tires: 60 THB (They won't charge if they don't change).

Mitsubishi Engine Oil: 1,700 THB + 300 THB - Synthetic Oil (Engine + filter + Pan)

    Mitsubishi Oil Filter: 220 THB

    Oil Washer Plug: 17 THB

Odour Filter: 750 THB (Cost from Mitsubishi Distribution Website) Additional service.

    Balancing Weight: ?

Ford has a much more comprehensive periodic service than Mitsubishi does. That's why there is such a difference in cost.

If you don't tell Mitsubishi to change your odour filter, then they won't. Same goes for Ford, tell them you don't want to change your odour filter and they won't.

    It's that simple.

If your happy to drive with semi-synthetic oil than that's ok. All I can say is that the profit they make from semi-synthetic or synthetic stays at 30%.

Ford just prefers to use synthetic because of their 15,000 KM intervals or 9 Months (shorter if heavy usage).

I am a Ford fanboy? Not really never owned one, will own one soon.

Previous cars are PJS, Fortuner, Freelander, etc in Thailand.

We just need to compare apples with apples and that's it. Does anyone force you to do your service with a dealer?

No. Are you worried in keeping your warranty? Maybe, but warranty in Thailand generally doesn't mean so much.

Is Ford quality worse than Mitsubishi? Check your local Mitsubishi dealer and ask why they are panicking about deliveries now with the new PJS.

    (recall, JATCO, steering column).

  2. Sounds like a very expensive service?? my Pajero and Vigo are usually around 2000 every 10000kms.

You obviously haven't changed the timing belt (100,000KM) on your PJS yet then. That's 13K Baht on it's own wink.png

Plus, the PJS/VIGO need servicing every 10,000KM - Ford's are at 15,000KM intervals.

Exactly! Plus Mitsubishi's GENUINE Oil for the PJS is a rebranded Shell HX7 (Semi-synthetic) which they sell for 1,010 THB.

We sell them for 800 THB. If you ask for the synthetic Genuine Oil which is a rebranded Shell HX8 (no the ultra) then it's 1,700 THB.

Or you can do as I did, I brought my own oil to Mitsubishi and asked them to use that instead. No problems. Warranty is ok :)

I am guessing since Ford has 15,000 KM intervals that they use decent synthetic oil?

  3. I thought Honda were just switching to a global platform concept for the civic HB. Just as it already exists for the Jazz (Jazz in the UK = same Jazz platform elsewhere).

If the new Civic will be based on the same platform as the Jazz then I call it a huge achievement for Honda.

  4. Ford EV shocks front: 1,365 THB

Ford EV shocks rear: 1,455 THB

    Fortuner (new) Front: 1,900 THB

    Fortuner (new) Rear: 1,500 THB

    FYI smile.png

Will the EV shocks fit a Fortuner? Could be a cost saving upgrade tongue.pngbiggrin.png

Nah they don't fit. The EV shocks are much thicker in comparison with the Fortuner's shocks.

What's even more sad is that they are bod made by the same supplier...

  5. Cost from distributor for shocks FYI (price from my own shop)

Ford Ranger WT OEM shock Front 2WD: 1,300 THB

Ford Ranger WT OEM shock Rear 2WD: 1,325 THB

Toyota Hilux (REVO) OEM shock Front 2WD: 1,450 THB

Toyota Hilux (REVO) OEM shock Rear 2WD: 1,600 THB

Chevrolet Colorado OEM Shock Front 2WD: 1,180 THB

Chevrolet Colorado OEM Shock Rear 2WD: 890 THB

Dmax OEM Shock Front 2WD: 1,605 THB

Dmax OEM Shock Rear 2WD: 1,080 THB

    FYI :)

  6. For you then:

Toyota accepts 4mm gaps on their cars

Lexus accepts 2 mm gaps smile.png

Where are these gaps ... Sorry but I can't follow some of what is written. Anyway it's only 2mm difference isn't it does that matter ..

It's just a small joke about the issue ardokano is having with his Toyota Fortuner.

Joe ... I realise that ...I was just hoping for another interesting and challenging read...something to do whilst two MLM women are bending my wifes ear and sitting ever closer ...I'll have to go and save her soon.

Can't help you this time :) Going to the big bike event in Kalasin now :)

  8. From a guy who owns a workshop here in North East Isaan...Ford, Toyota, Isuzu, Mitsubishi or any other brand all come in with the same issues.

Parts used on a Ford are made by the same guys who make the parts for Toyota or Isuzu. Reliability wise, I am certain all brands come in at the same.

Dealer service wise...that's another story :)

  9. FYI, new PJS has been having problems with the steering column. Seems that a lot of vibration of the steering wheel and right front wheel.

The photo is of MMTH Pathumthani HQ service training center. The owner tried to get his car fixed at a dealer, but they couldn't fix it.

1 month of waiting and still not fixed.

This might be a one time thing or evolve in a major recall...
