Absolute nonsense.   Put food on the table legally, and make sure you can do it before you take on the responsibility of a family who will depend on you.

Absolutely correct. Operating a legal business ain't so hard if you follow the rules and are able to go with the "flow". It's just a matter of actually wanting to operate a legal business instead of taking the easy way out.

For foreigners married to a Thai person, they already allow us to stay in Thailand under a non-immigrant o visa which is easily obtained. Starting your own business or finding a job if you're qualified is not so difficult.

The land has been located...however it will take at least 5 years to even start the immigration office.

Each province will have an immigration office and for many of us Yang Talat will be closer than any other office.

Sure beats the 130 km drive to Sakhon Nakhon...

Thanks Joe, but even zooming in on the plate and playing with the levels I don't see the government seal :(

I understand it's a small (ish) round embossed marking, or am I barking up the wrong tree here? If so, how does one identify real from fake red plates?

It's all I had at hand for now. Today my new car will come will take a close up then :)

Anyone got an image of a genuine red plate which clearly shows the government seal?

Just bought a new car (not collected yet) want to ensure all is above board. Wifey will hit the roof (to the point of cancelling the order) if the dealer tries to pull a fast one.

    Real plates

Buriram. We actually drove with a laptop connected to the vehicle proving the shift to sixth was not occurring. I was driving so could not see what it indicated but it was the dealership service manager who suggested the next step in the algorithm which is to get the expert from BKK to take a look. I think we are moving forward. They are very responsive to this point.

Your dealer seems to be doing their job. However, I still believe there is no need for an expert from Bangkok. As the information read from the diagnostic tool can be emailed to Bangkok for analysis.

Anyway let us know how things end. I wish you the best of luck :)

I'm just hoping for an appropriate resolution. If it takes a little time no problem. Toyota expert in hospital ( they only have the one???) so I'm hoping for his quick recovery then we can move forward.

Do you mind telling us where your dealer is located? Your problem can be found by using the TDT (toyota diagnostic tool). Every dealer can use it.

Waiting for an appointment with the "experts " from Bangkok to come evaluate it.

I hear it takes months to get parts for the ford!

It might take months to get parts for the Toyota too. Seems that some people are having to wait at least 1 month for the new gearbox to arrive...

  8. Having lived in Japan for over 5 years and having permanent residency there, I can only say that Japan is a very accepting country towards other nationalities. The court just not wants to make an exception, because an exception can become a very dangerous precedent. To work in Japan is actually not so difficult to do it legally. Even bloggers, freelancers etc can get a work permit if all documents are presented.

I got my PR pretty easily by working in Japan for 5 years, I automatically was selected for PR. A process which took not more than a couple of months and costed absolutely no money.

  11. Thanks for offering those other suggestions I will seek out the 77 milk and look for this white house joint too.

Just a note. The kebab garden restaurant is now closed Monday and Tuesdays.

The "White House" is just that, a White House, and not a restaurant... It is a large residence of a local who liked the looks of the office "While House" from the US...

    Pianoman

The owner of that white house is also the owner of Rasa (next to 77 milk) and 77 milk. Also a well-known architect in Thailand and Laos :)

  12. Service free battery are no good in Thailand as temps are too high and water will evaporate from the cells and there is no way to replace the water. Buy a maintenance battery and check the cells once a month. Also diesel engines take more cranking power because of the high compression so a heavy duty cranking amp battery in needed. Hope this helps.

Not necessarily though. Certain battery makers (Hitachi in particular) really designed their batteries properly for hot climates.

They are so sure of themselves that they warranty an SMF battery for 2 years. That's better than anyone else on the Thai market.

From personal experience, I have driven 100,000 km in 3 years with an SMF battery and never had an issue.

I don't think two years is a problem. Everybody has said most batteries last 2-3 years. How about a 5-10 year warranty, now that would be something to crow about.

I understand they last longer than 2 years, but there is no brand in Thailand giving more than 1 year warranty :)
