  1. True, but it's community based so as soon as the Thai community steps it up those cameras etc would be added I presume.

I think the app called Waze is getting more and more popular in Thailand.

That app allows users to add police check points, accidents, etc.

And the information is more or less available in real-time...so not so many stale check-points or camera locations.

  2. Harrier and RX aren't even in the same league if it comes to price. I think the Harrier in Japan retails for Max 4,500,000 Yen while the RX retails for Max around 7,500,000 Yen.

Not sure...haven't been back to Japan for a while now and didn't read many Japanese magazines here in Thailand.

Paying 1,800,000 THB for a Fortuner is indeed a bit steep. The gap between normal cars and their European counterparts is getting smaller and smaller :)

I thought the harrier was based upon the RAV4 chassis while the RX is based upon the Camry platform.
They use different engines, different drive-trains, transmissions (7speed vs 8speed), etc. Hence the price difference.
From what I know when I worked with Lexus on some of their events is that their customer service is very high especially in comparison with other luxury brands in Thailand.
I guess that's also calculated in the price of every single vehicle.

Yup, Harrier is based on MC platform as per the RAV4, with the RX coming from the Camry's K platform.

The thing is both are imported so the gap may not look as big as it usually does. In Thailand we usually only buy the locally assembled models as they're incredibly good value. The Harrier is an imported model so the 2.5m price tag would look more like 1.5m if it was built locally (probably even less as I think it would sell well here).

I actually think both cars are poor value purely because of all the importation add on costs. Hence the reason why I'm really happy to have ordered a Ford Everest. Bang for my buck it offers me everything I could want from an SUV and I couldn't say that about either of these cars.

I'd generally buy a Toyota because they offer good value, but not for the Harrier as it's imported. Lexus' are refined, incredibly reliable vehicles, but they're not worth what they charge, and they don't have the prestige of the Euro brands so their resales can't compete with something like a Merc.

Back to Toyota's and being value for money the big exception I see right now is the Fortuner, I don't dislike the car, but they are ripping people off with their pricing, they deserve to lose customers to Mitsu and their PJS.
  3. We were talking about the new harrier, not the old harrier.

I thought the harrier was based upon the RAV4 chassis while the RX is based upon the Camry platform.

  4. Did you check with TMT if this car is part of a recall they had just after the flooding in Bangkok a couple of years back?

We printed around 5000 recall letters for TMT and send them to the customers.

    Main problems were:

    1. Bad hooks used to keep bumpers and panels into place. They might become weak allowing misalignment of bumpers.

    2. Paint problems on all colors.

My PJS also had paint issues on the side-step which was later recalled by Mitsubishi.

Got my side-steps changed for free. The black paint kept going off due to bad powder-coating.

  6. He's giving up on his BMW?

I can't say I haven't done these kind of moves when I was running late to an important meeting.

Especially on that expressway between Mega Bangna and Rama II highway. Slow traffic and trucks tend to stick to the right and middle.

Leaving only the left lane open.

I'm not justifying his actions here, but why were there 3 trucks next to each other on the expressway.

Seems to me that's also quite dangerous, even if there ain't a law that says it's illegal.
