  1. UK holding back on stopping the Chinese from entering the country (per BBC). The economy could do with a boost from a bit of money laundering.
  2. It was in the OP. I too have since seen reports about assistance from Thailand, which should be a given. I have seen elsewhere (unconfirmed) that this place is Thai owned.
  3. "the Thai side offered to help extinguish it but Cambodian immigration officials refused entry." Face more important than saving lives. 10 dead so far being reported by BBC.
  4. They light up at night - a gold colour and look very impressive. Fake and for the holiday period only.
  5. Aaah, the infamous office number 7. A few on here; me included; have been in that room and come out poorer. I was also instructed to learn to speak Thai. That was a few years ago and has turned out to be a one-off experience. It is intimidation and if you think about complaining it would be a bit of a dilemna for you. Is the person you complain to getting a cut? Will you be storing up trouble for the future? I would pay.
  6. Good news. I wonder if people cancelling hotel bookings caused the change of heart.
  7. Sounds a bit Stepford Wives to me. I would be steering clear of such a place rather than heading to it.

    Chow Soy

If that was the place on Soi Pothole, google maps says it is now Whiskers Bar. Oppsite Triangle Bar?
  9. Merry Christmas and a Rotten New Year from all ABUs. ????
  10. I saw the previous effort; Knives Out; and left before the end because I couldn't follow the convoluted plot or Daniel Craig's affected Southern accent. No onions for me.
  11. The trees they uprooted are now being replaced, no parking spaces, no underground toilets, no seating (as yet).
  12. Plans seem to have changed and all in all it is a very poor image to project for a beach resort. One lane of traffic closed too. The workers from Myanmar were not available during Covid which likely stalled the works.
  13. A quick update from the Beach Rd works: No parking bays are being built, just more palm trees planted and new paving blocks and kerbs are delivered and await fitting. From Dusit Thani they are now down to Soi 5. I watched the works near me today, mostly handballing buckets of concrete for some basic formwork. The workers are from Myanmar and about half of them are women, some very pretty ones too under all the grime and sun protection. I am told that they are the best workers about and will work a month solid of 12 hour shifts without a day off. Thais only want to work Monday to Friday and for only 8 hours per day. Pay is about 400 to 500 Baht per day depending on skillset. It is heavy manual work but they all seemed cheery enough.
  14. Company has changed name but still in Huddersfield.
  15. Always check for 5 o'clock shadow, even after midnight.
  16. It is, but they could point the OP in the right direction for his friend.
  17. There is a Narcotics Anonymous on Soi Skaw Beach behind Treetown. You could try that as a starting point. Good luck.
  18. I think the land belongs/belonged to the police (no links, sorry). This is similar to the set up on Soi Excite and I think it will be mostly frequented by East Asians. A lot of Koreans used to stay round that area pre-Covid. It has been about 6 months in the making so not intended to be temporary.
