about 15 years ago, didn't one of these do the same thing on wireless and caught fire killing many?
It was a gas truck owned by Siam Gas 20 or more years ago. About 20 people were killed, if I remember rightly, and many more badly disfigured and maimed with burns. The gas tipped out into a traffic jam on an expressway ramp and ignited, trapping people inside their cars. It was a horrible business. Several of the victims lived in agony for up 10 days before succumbing to their burns. I knew the sister of one of them.
There have been two LPG tankers roll in BKK in the last ~ 3 years. Teen driving in at least 1 case. Next one might be Hiroshima II - fuel air bomb, second only to a nuke.
Who needs terrorists, with safety stds like this?

yokels don't give a fuk about this place - why should anyone else?

Having lived and worked in Asia for 13 years, I now realise I have led a sheltered life.
I have never heard the "slope" expression used before and if some sensationalists hadn't written this drivel, I would still have been happily ignorant of it's meaning.
same, never heard of it and I doubt very much that Clarkson has either, I watched the show and didn't think of anything weird because the bridge they built did have a slope on it and the guy on the bridge looks like one of the crew
Maybe he should have said there is a lean on it.
Who you calling a lean? Get fark!

It seems obvious that even now the government didn't understand the mechanism of supply and demand.
Interfere with the free market at your own peril.

Perhaps the question would be better worded "is it illegal for students to use their brains while on a bike?"
Bit hard when their brains are on the road.

How long before the project hits a corruption crossroad. One they can't cross until someone gets a payment that someone can't efford.
You know Shuthep, the reds should keep pushing for confrontation.I don't like to say it but civil war might just be the answer to the this countries problems. Shake it up, force outside intervention. Destroy the hierarchy of corruption that stalls this countries from ever producing an economy that fairly serves it's people. The country is constantly tied down by draconian beliefes and systems that benefit no one but the rich. Turn a page....start a new chapter, create opertunity for everyone. Not just people with white skin and long surnames.
I think if you were to fix the justice system, everything else would fall into place.

As the driver died, because of his own fault, will the police charge the electricity post for being there?
Why, was it a falang power pole?

I won't claim to speak for spidermike007, but I think what's being noted is the consistency with which Thais remain steadfastly opposed to confessing even in the face of a preponderance of evidence. The proportion of Thais involved in disputes who do not confess would also seem high. There is also the noted lacking of Thais confessing in very high profile matters (politicians being the biggest offenders). More often than not in most people's daily dealings here, I think we would agree that Thais are known for their strong aversion to admitting mistakes and confessing to the truth if it will be regarded as a mistake. Why such an aversion to truth here in the LOS? Does anyone just simply confess here? I screwed up. Sorry. He that ever been said? The relationship many Thais have with truth is perverse.

Lying when caught breaking the law is not a Thai phenomenon. I arrested plenty of people back home who came up with all sorts of excuses, reasons, lies, etc.
One only has to read the paper and when non-Thais are caught breaking the law here in the LOS, they often try to run, lie, explain away, etc.
Just my 2-Satangs worth.
I've had all kinds of things happen to me (perpetrated by Thais), some serious and others less so, and I can count a single time in many, many years visiting and living here that a Thai has admitted a mistake and apologized to me. 1 time in hundreds or thousands.
Confessing your sins is a Christian concept.
Thais, like me, won't ever confess to anything, even if caught red handed.
Never any benefit to confession, so best never to do it.
But it is an apology that resets the relationship - means you are living on the same planet, speaking the same language.
Otherwise relationship is forever damaged - presuming a relationship.
But must save face!

Good thing this lunatic was finally caught and arrested. I wonder what the punishment will be?
Very severe. Perhaps as much as 2,000 baht.

I am very happy to hear that Thais are beginning to become concerned about the environment.
On of the biggest unofficial street side dumps is 100 m or so from city hall.

Solution might be for 'civilised' countries to not accept flights / airlines that do not confirm passports are not listed as stolen / lost / missing.
-
Far more important to find where oppositions leaders penis might have been than stopping stolen passports which could save airliner / passengers / airline.
malaysian government is a disgrace.

They need to interview all the students separately about what happened - then lock teacher up, until his story coincides with the consensus of students - without telling him what students said.

The glee with which so many forum members s**t on this country when it has problems is absolutely revolting.
Is it glee - or despair?

I did the same maths Tom.
Whew. For a second there I thought my government issued tablet was malfunctioning.
Wouldn't 'functioning' be mention worthy?

I don't know if anybody noticed, and with due respect, the police officer shot in the HEAD was a squad commander. RIP Sir.

That the whole thing is corrupt and that there will be plenty of proof, nobody will doubt. But how high the courts will reach and how long those found guilty will spend in prison, is the big question.
If it all blows over as before Thailand and Thai people will have much worse coming. The vultures are ready to strike anytime when they feel safe.
Regrettably no one of any importance will spend any time in prison. Yingluck and co if convicted will leave the country and live a life of luxury. The new government will not do anything to bring them back to serve their sentences. I believe things are going to change in Thailand in the near future but not very much. Corruption has been a way of life here for a long time and will remain for the foreseeable future.
If (Big If) the new government does not follow up with any extradition applications, does this mean that the 7 farmers who committed suicide and left their families destitute because of the existing government rice policies have no value?
No one is ever responsible for someone else's suicide.
Bullshit.
Everybody is responsible for what they say and do, which can result in suicide of another.

This rice is your rice (if not payed), thats right...
No it's not true. If you agree to sell something and allow the purchaser possession, you do not have the right to reclaim it unless a hire-purchase type contract was used (oz law, AFAIK). You only have the right to sue for the debt.
Thai law would be the say so.
But the sales agreement might specify title to remain with seller, & to transfer to buyer upon completion of payment in full.

And to top it off, she accidentally voted for Suthep!

- the "wanna bet our next dinner on it?" line, suddenly she's not so sure anymore
Reckon that would get them every time.

Just show us any Thai that says "Sorry I made a mistake" or "Sorry I was wrong" ;-)
Has any Thai ever apologised to anybody? Much less to a falang?
