  1. The best and by far the cheapest pharmacy on Koh Phangan is tucked away directly behind the Bangkok Bank in Thong Sala. I have used this pharmacy for more than 10 years and the lady pharmacist is very knowledgeable and helpful.  She has never once tried to rip me off with expensive products, unlike certain other establishments on the island! The pharmacy is only open in the evenings during the week and all day on Saturday and Sunday.

    Be civil or don't debate!

The Thaiembassy link you posted is not an official Embassy of Thailand web site, it is a private link. The quote on the first page refers to Swiss nationals, who have  different reciprocal tax arrangements than the UK.

I'm not debating, I'm stating fact. The reply by Siam Legal, who manage the website clearly states that "Only income earned inside Thailand shall be subjected to tax during retirement. " The fact that the guy who asked the question was Swiss is irrelevant.

My replies are to help individuals who have read your misguided comments and I will let them decide  who is the bullsh1tter. I have nothing further to say.

  3. I know you don't speak the King's English Nigel, but I would have thought that this is pretty clear, even for a Yank                                                  Article19
    Governmental Services

    (1) (a) Remuneration, other than a pension, paid by a Contracting State or a political
subdivision or a local authority thereof to any individual in respect of services of
a governmental nature rendered to that State or subdivision or local authority
thereof shall be taxable only in that State.

    (b) However, such remuneration shall be taxable only in the other Contracting
State if the services are rendered in that State and the recipient is a resident of
    that other Contracting State who:

    (i) is a national of that State; or
(ii) did not become a resident of that State solely for the purpose of
    performing the services.

    (2) (a) Any pension paid by the Contracting State or a political subdivision or a local
authority thereof to any individual in respect of services of a governmental nature
rendered to that State or subdivision or local authority thereof shall be taxable
    only in that State.

    (b) However, such pension shall be taxable only in the other contracting State if
the recipient is a national of and a resident of that State.                                                                                          As I said, UK pensioners with no earnings in Thailand are NOT taxable here

I tried watching it from Movies2watch but found the English subs were well out of sync and some scenes kept getting repeated like they were on a loop. First time I've used this site for streaming, so not impressed, prefer a straight download.

Strange, I've used the site several times and never had a problem with the streaming. Subs on the other hand are not so good, pity you needed them.

I guess you are saying you submitted your last 90 day report "in person or by mail" at Samai vs doing an online report on the new system?

I doubt in person/by mail reports interface with online report systems the individual uses which means the online system just gives you a 15 days heads up based on the last "online" report that was approved.

The "master" 90 day database which only immigration officers have access to would be updated by a in-person, by mail, or online approved report BUT the master database would not update an online reporting system which is just a module to help reportee submit a report.

And as already mentioned getting another extension does "not" automatically also give you a new 90 day address receipt unless the immigration officer told you they are doing a new 90 day report for you "and handed you that new, approved 90 day receipt."  Some immigration offices do process and hand you a new 90 day report receipt while doing the extension and some do not---the extension and 90 day report are two separate actions/pieces of paperwork.

Doubled check the report receipt you have in your passport....and maybe check the latest approved report contained in the online reporting system.  Use the receipt that has the latest approval date.

You guess wrong Pib, I registered into the new system as soon as it was online, how do you think that I get computer generated e-mails? As I mentioned, my retirement extension was done in person in Samui and my next notification is due on the 30th August. My original post was in reply to someone talking about the new 90 day system, which in my case hasn't worked properly this time, it wasn't asking for help! Thanks all the same

Are you saying that Samui "also" processed/generated a new 90 days receipt for you when you got your extension?  Some immigration offices do that; some don't.

No, my last 90 day report was approved on the 11th April and my retirement extension on the 2nd June. Their e-mail was sent on the 23rd June,  It looks like Samui Immigration  haven't updated the database with my extension details.

  7. "With the new online system they send an email reminder automatically when its due for subsequent reports (after the first) 15 days before due date."

I'm afraid they've even managed to **** that up! I recently got my retirement extension approved in Samui and my next notification is not due until the 30th August, On the 23rd June, however, I got a computer generated e-mail, how telling me that I must notify by the 9th July.

Needless to say I ignored the mail.

I've just finished watching this series and I really enjoyed it, particularly Keith and Charlie's stories. Some great insights into what made the group tick and a few surprises along the way. Watch on the iPlayer.

  9. If you fancy a light hearted comedy harking back to Ealing days, but made in 1994, Love on a branch line, a 4 part mini series, might fit the bill. There are some great characters ,especially Leslie Phillips' Lord Flamborough and David Haig's Lionel Virley,

who are at times hilarious and the naked Amanda Root is an added bonus!

I binge watched the series (available on Youtube) and the 3 hours and a bit went quickly by. Enjoy!
