  1. u can get one frm true...

i got a line fixed in my personal name at my house. took a total of 5 days. no deposits.

i took my passport to true in fortune tower, applied(one english speakin staff was very helpful) had to wait approx 30 mins, got my number.

after 5 days they fixed the line to the building...and the building ppl connedtec the line to my flat in 10 mins....

you can also manage with the net with mobile. many mobiles have wireless modem option which allows u to use GPRS in yr pc.

for credit card processing im not sure, but i think that too can be managed by sim card.

  2. If there is no line in, how much does it usually cost to get a phone connected.

Lets say the nearest line is 3 km away. :o (route 24, south east of Khorat)

    thanks

our situation at one of our warehouse at chumphon was similar...

we kept pushing with the tel dpartment for a year, they finally installed 2 telephone lines by wireless.

for each phone line they installed a big box, maybe 30cm by 15cm and an antenna.

the line has no dialtone, u gotta dial and wait for like 20 seconsd then u get the ring or engaged tone...

using net on that line is very crappy usually 4kbps...hehe

sendin fax and telephone calls work perfectly.

  3. hello firefox.

im not gettin into it just for fun.

just saying that the speed tests are just a test of download from that particular server hosting the test to your machine. it may/maynot be an indication of thailands international bandwidth.

    Take a look at http://iir.ngi.nectec.or.th/internet/map/2...201-800x600.gif

you will c that there are many routes which constitute the international bandwidth. maybe the route to the speed test is faster/slower than other routes.

route to your speed test hosted in US may be congested and still u r able to download from korea (true has 45 mbps direct link)...

tonite will look for some speed test frm korea n compare to the us ones....

and yeti thanks a ton for the link...exactly what i was lookin for...

  4. reffer to my post number 50 above.

i got my package yesterday... stuck at smal;l post office for like 4 days!!!!@#!

on 22nd i had sent complaints to thailand post on the following email addresses:-

    [email protected]

    [email protected]

    [email protected]

    [email protected]

i was amazed to receive a call from thailandpost... that too from bangkok....good for her as i had already received the documents by yesterday and was calmed down by today....

i find it really ridiculous due to the laziness of one particular postman, i have to open a mailbox at the big post office.....now i have become the postman...

  5. Sniffdog, I really tried to let the matter lie.  As you see, I didn't respond to your insult in the last thread.  I never referred to it again.  You still want to dig this up?

The test works for me, reliably.  It also works for plenty of other folks.  If you find some loophole (like using proxies or an incompatible browser) so that it doesn't work for you, it's totally fine by me.  I'm not going to let this deteriorate into a senseless degrading flame war.

    well.... .justify this....

i am on a dial up 54.6 Kbps.

we all know that approx 57 Kbps is the physical limit of the telephone line when using it with a traditional modem...

and trust me i am not playing around with any settings or stuff....

PS: the image is too large to be included in the IMG tag, so i have linked the URL...

  6. for the past one hour ive been searchin for a solution but cant get one...

the thing is, i want to use my phone line in bangkok from anywhere in the world.

i need a box[\b] which can connect to my router(connected with adsl) and also have a port for the regular phone line.

now i wanna use PC to access the phone line when i am on travel, make local calls to bangkok from anywhere in the world....send faxes to bangkok.

i know this is pretty easy to do thru a computer, but i dont want to set up a desktop computer for only this reason and i would require someone to manage the computer also....

i wanna install one such setup in my home country also.

pls dont recomend any VOIP service providers as calls made to my home country r really noisy and its too expensive also...

i would be saving a lot if i can get a solution as its a one time cose + monthly broadband charges....and the fact that currently my bill for only calls made to my home country is around 30,000 to 50,000 baht/month...

  7. alibaba.com is like the daddy of all b2b sites....having personally benifited from that site.

making an alibaba clone would cost u $$$....

i would love to get my hands on a ready made script....

yesterday i found http://phpmydirectory.com/ really nice but it costs $99. i would like some trial time to c how im doin b4 puttin in some bucks....

an open source/free script would really make my day :-)

ive got spare server space to try out any script....so if u have somethin in mind do tell me...

  8. hello all.

i am looking forward to create a trading website prefebly like http://exporters.com.sg/ ...

does anyone know where can i get the PHP or asp script?

i havent coded myself for like 2 years and have no idea about PHP or asp coding...

i can find loads of forum scripts(like this one), image gallery....shopping cart but not a trade leads site. would be nice if anyone who runs one can share his/her experience...

  9. how south are you looking at??? hope not in yala, patani or naratiwat....

the prices for land there are cheap like you mentioned caus its too UNSAFE for rubber farmers to tap rubber....if u r not aware of the situation do some diggin in thai news...

if you are not looking at a land so south, then its too difficult to get land at 15,000 a rai.....the land prices are much higher due to the high peices of rubber.

the rubber plantation is givin huge returns....no farmer wants to let go of his land.

u dont need to be a plantation expert if u r gonna appoint other ppl to do your stuff....

i would recomend as a stater, you go for palm plantation as it requires much labour and care. just grow the trees n collect the nuts thats all.

if at a later stage you can go in for a small oil mill also.

rubber is a very labour intensive crop as the farmer needs to go early morning to tap into each tree and and go in again in the afternoon heat(that is if its not raining) to collect the tapped rubber.

thats the reason they have replaced rubber plantations at malaysia with palm plantations.

on the other hand rubber gives a very good returns. as per what i hear from friends at hat yai that there is always shortage of raw material here and companies are fighting to get what little is available.

50 to 100 rai is a good size, in thailand it would be a BIG plantation...

you can grow some short term crops like some fruits n stuff to help you with plantation expenses while your main crop matures....

  10. The all famous McAfee..... test.

    The all famous McAfee test

Same page as the first pic in this thread ....

Replace the '0150' with '0600' or '1500' or '3000' for more tests.

Just for fun .. how long does it the 3mb test on 28.8k? Mine: 16 seconds/1.465 mbs

    (10:25 pm).

the results frm my dtac gprs on xda ii...

    150.005 KB

    Time Elapsed:

    30 seconds

    40 Kbps

    (5 KBps)

faster than dial up on this stupid line...which gave around 26.5 kpbs....

  11. its happened a couple of times that my Dtac bill arrived after the due date mentioned in the bill and my phoneline had been suspended due to non payment...then i gotta rush to the post office to recover the bill....it seems they didnt deliver the mail caus there wasnt enough mails collected for that particular area....<deleted>??? 7 days???

i guess the mailbox option is the only option i have...

PS: in my previous post i mentioned gettin a postbox, what i ment was a mailbox...

  12. I used to get my telephone bill on the 5th and my UBC bill on the 10th. This month they both came  together on the 15th. I'm sure the postman/post office just saves them up until there's  enough letters waiting for delivery to deem worthy of using his precious time to deliver them. :o

it turns out that our local post office is a franchise....

im not gonna let those a$$holes delay my mail nemore...first thing thursday morning, im gettin myself a post box in the big branch and have someone check them daily. this particular delay would cost me 3 days damaruge at the port....

  13. i tend to agree with steve....all this is just build confidance...if a rough says u to donate some bucks and your life will be successfull....u buy that make the donation...feel confident....probably turn up successful....but we need to think with our head now....

the same is true for most of the slimming products....

  14. Is there any Software out there which can convert a *.pdf file into Excel?

I have a quite large Pricelist in pdf Format from a local supplier and I need to work on the pricing before I send it to a prospective Customer – I know I could simply print it out and then Scan it into Excel but it contains quite a number of photographs and detail / resolution will be lost if I do that.

    Patrick

converting from any document to pdf is very easy, loads of free apps but the reverse is very difficult. i dont think u can convert pdf to excel or word doc maintaining the pictures/layout. text extraction is easy but wont solve yr purpose.

however there r some pdf editing tools available...google for them i cant remember any names right now...but i feel if u can edit the pdf files directly it should solve yr purpose...

  15. just last saturday our office in medan, indonesia sent some documents to us by EMS via th post office, we have been chasing up with the post office ever since.....just today we get the info that the documents have arrived to the big post office in hat yai which it immedietly dispatched to the smaller branch(abt 10 km from hat yai town).

now this smaller branch is closed all day today(tuesday).

    they have 2 staff.

caling one on his mobile we find that he is out on holiday to another place and he suggests we wait for 3 to 4 days before the post office gets enough mails for delivery to that particular area???

    <deleted>!!!!

    what century is this????

i guess it leaves me no option other than to rent a post box in the hat yai town and check it daily....that would be 3 to 4 days faster than having the post man deliver the mails to us.

PS: does anyone know the personal email addresses of some of the big shots at thailand post? they need to get a piece of my mind.

  16. PS: i am not a religious guy....dont feel offended if anyone doesnt agree with my point of view, i dont intend to hurt any religious sentiments here.

there was a show in discovery about hindu sadhus(doctors for thai??) in india.

it was hosted by a group of sceptics, they dressed up as sadhus and did their magic thing and the spectators were amazed....they thought these ppl were real sadhus and even managed to collect abt US$5(which was later returned) frm a willage family to ward of evil spirits. all with a combination of chemistry, good acting, good training of magic and some knowledge of religion.....

    nice act....

thats what all these ppl are.

they just tell you what you want to hear rather than what you need to hear....

id personaly stay as far as possible from these 'doctors'....superstitions are something which have been created by these ppl to take advantage of the comon ppl....

like you go to not so financially well to do person, you tell him you can make him rich and so onn.....good eye contact and body language.... the result, you can make him do anything you want as all he sees is the money...

You may call them sadhus/fakirs in india, doctors in thailand....and the nigerian spam(http://www.expertlaw.com/library/pubarticles/Consumer_Protection/spam_email_fraud2.html) in this new electronic age where superstitions are fading off...... all are exactly the same bull $h1t...

PS: If something is too good to be true, that means it is not.

  17. Anyone experience with putting a DV tape on vcd.

I tried different formats and compressions but i never get an acceptable quality. I want at least the sdame quality i can see on original movie vcd's.

What compression do i use? Which advanced settings?

I used Nero, Adobo Premiere and ULead MediaStudio but i can't nail down the right settings.

The resulting video is very "blocky" and even in slow moving sequences there are a lot of compression artifacts visible. If compared to the movie vcd's it doesn't even come close.  :o

what kind of equipment do you have?

how do u transfer the DV from tape to your computer?

if its a handycam, make sure u r not using the USB streeming on sony handycams as that sux big time.

couple of years ago i used to do some recordin on sony mini dv handicams and here is how i did the copying.

    1) shoot the video on the handycam.

    2) connect the cam to my pc with a FIREWIRE cable/IEEE 1394.

    3) use any capturing software such as windows moviemaker/ULead MediaStudio/etc to capture at 2.1 mbps.

    4) create a SVCD in nero, drag and drop the file into nero.....nero does the stuff....

    easy...

PS: whats the config of your PC? if u dont have a IEEE1394 port then u gotta buy a PCI/PCMCIA adapter for it,

  18. It sounds like this is a non-resident account held at Bangkok Bank's Head Office only. On this type of account yoy cannot have an atm card. A 'normal' account with bank book will give you an atm card for 250 baht and can be used to credit overseas transfer funds

i used to have a non-resident account at bangkok bank head office and they gave me a be1st atm card and a bank book at the time of application...

during application, i was here on tourist visa and not yet applied for a work permit.

im no US citizen nor a pension/social security benefitiary but i did receive incoming wire transfer of $10,000 once my account was still a non-resident account.....

what exactly is a 'non-resident' account?

is this not a 'normal' account?

  19. I've just reinstalled everything on my PC, XP Pro SP2.

Is it me or Media Player 9 sucks?

Audio cd's and some .wav files seem to freeze temporarily on playback now...

    its just you...

i have media player 9 on xp sp2 / regularly live update and had no issue with windows media player, except one particular dvd which made my computer hang on many dvd software, that dvd worked fine on a conventional dvd player...
