  1. We arrived early Dec on nonimm-O visa based on retirement. Idea was to get Covid ext. as this would have just given us the time to stay out of cold Europe.

With no more ext. possible our only option is to go for ordinary ext. based on retirement. We got the money but time till visa expiry even with 7 day ext. is too short.

Was offered by an agent to get "out of town visa". Only need passbook copy, no bank letter. I don't feel happy with such a deal as I suspect it will create problems in the future.

Would it be worthwhile to try/hope for Covid ext. with retirement ext. following on?

What are options if there are any options?

We've been living in TH for 19 yrs on nonimm-O multi entry. Pity this is no more available.

    Thanks for any helpful reply.

The OP will be applying for a Non O retirement.

The 800k in bank on day of application only and be shown to have come from o/s.

Next he will apply for annual extension. The 800k must be in bank for two months prior to application.

Note funds for extensions do not need to be shown to be from o/s.

I was told that when applying it is 2 months . When extending it is 3 months in the account.

I'm in the process of doing it at present.

Been rereading some of the litearature re: masking. The key is that even cloth masks reduce the innoculum (amount of viral particles inhaled) and, per the outcome numbers, reduce the severity of disease by as much as 92%. That is a huge differential.

Granted, these are observational and animal studies; for some reason you can't do control group studies with people..." Here, we'l.l expose y'all to Covid and see how many masked vs unmasked die."

Some such data is now available from real world observation, just no way to ethically configure a controlled trial with people. Hamsters supplied with filtered air got less sick and died much less often.

Areas more compliant with mask usage had better epidemiological profiles than "I don't wanna!" countries. Thailand was, with Vietnam, Singapore, et alia, mentioned as one of the less severely affected regions regarding mortality and hospitalzation vs case load.

Pays yer money and take yer chances.

Cloth masks are ok if washed daily. They shld also be more than one layer & layers shld be of diff. materials. Singapore has some good articles about it.

Bigging up mask restrictions might be your opinion, Ken, but it isn’t mine. ‘Standard’ masks fine indoors, but should be voluntary outdoors. It creates more anxiety than the virus is worth. Also, it has likely been in Thailand since 2019/early 2020 given the proximity to Wuhan; don’t know where your one year has come from, though we all know Thailand wasn’t really up to actively testing for it.

Why does a mask create anxiety? Anxiety over what?

Either this or go do a U turn to Singapore and obtain visa on arrival.

Hopefully ubonjoe will chime in and set things straight for you with some good advice.

Much of the adolescent responses on this thread should be deleted, absolutely pathetic.

Is Singapore really a possibility at present? For return to Bkk one needs to do another TP. Or is this not required on VTL flights? I'm in a similar position re visa ext. but not volunteer.

Although it is very hard for these reactionary goons to do so, it is a good idea to stop the panic, stop the fear mongering, let the people get back to work, and admit that Omi is not the Zombie Apocalypse, as you predicted not long ago.

Just 500 fatalities in UK in one day. Thailand once before thought they had it under control. Look at Australia, and sharply rising deaths in S.Africa.

Caution may be a good strategy.

Thanks for the response . Went with ‘Oriental escape’, they had a choice of vehicles . I went with the family car package which is a Fortuna, hopefully it’s in decent shape.  Choice to pay card online or cash to the driver. ???? Oh cost was 2,300 baht.  I will update on the service Monday ….fingers ????

Used this company in the past for airport trips. Always good & reliable.

Are you from Germany? The only folks that I know who are being asked for an Embassy letter are Germans and Vietnamese passport holders. I just got my 60 day covid extension today no questions asked but I'm holding a US passport..

But does e.g. German embassy issue such a letter? There is no reason why one can't return other than 100.000 infections today.

Why is there even a covid extension option? Anyone can leave Thailand anytime they want, even fortress Australia is now open without quarantine on arrival so what real reason would someone actually need a covid extension?

Because ppl want to stay in Thailand and this may be the only/easiest option. There is no reason why one cannot leave Thailand.

Did you explain you were having issues each time?  Or was it more time to check?  Cataract is normally not an issue in itself and only requires removal if it causing problems.  So if you said something like having serious night driving issue to first doctor but not to second?  If not causing issues normally not a need for operation.

If a trip to Bangkok possible https://www.rutnin.com/en/about/ is well recommended and have used myself - very popular with Thai at less than major private hospital costs - very busy but well controlled queue system and English is fine.

Rutnin is a place you either like or hate. Twice with appointment waited several hours for a doc "stuck in traffic". With my blocked tearduct I'm glad I didn't follow her advice to get it operated. Like everywhere else, you need a name to go to. In my case, a specialist at BNH helped my problem.
