I suffer with a debilitating back problem and occassionally get a massage when muscles are tight. Last time I went the girl usually massages me wasnt available so another girl started & did similar to this applying a lot of pressure to a lower part of my back, afterwards I was in pain &  I could hardly walk for several days. They are not trained at all, they learn from others doing it like many who work in Thailand, no registered schooling/learning in their  trade is very common here which is why there are many problems in different fields of work, qualifications in Thailand are not required for many jobs

If they were medically trained masseuse you would pay a lot more. May be go for a  massage  at a hospital where it hopefully gets done by someone trained to do it.

I wouldn't suggest learning a martial art at your age for the sole purpose of self defense. Younger men will have much faster reflexes to say the least. Even Mike Tyson was recently warned that he is too old for the fight  game.

But as a method of keeping fit? Sure. I can highly recommend Muay Thai. I usually train five times per week and I am older than you. Currently having a month off on doctor's orders after unrelated surgery, but as soon as the  doc OK's it I will be straight back in the gym.

There is even a guy in his seventies who comes now and again.

    Ever heard of Aikido?

Even at 62 this is still a good training to react quickly, balance, concentration and for self defense.

A spouse, either husband or wife can be a dependent on the others extension of stay based on retirement in which case only 800K needs to be in the bank account of the name only of person applying, no additional funds required for dependent.

You cannot be a dependent if you are over 50. This was info we got in Bkk. We needed to apply separately and show 800thou each.

Indeed... You can hardly blame the immigrants for not knowing that France has both a better economy and far more opportunities in general than the UK these days.

If the Truss somehow manages to finish the job she tried to start, then the immigration situation should pretty much resolve itself over time.

These migrants also know  they haven't got a chance in hell to get asylum in France.

Even though it is not mandatory, still, 99% of Thais and visitors wear masks everywhere, it's like you get the berating looks if you don't wear one, when is this going to stop i

Why do antimaskers worry about people wearing a mask?

We can choose to limit exposure to not get infected or to not care about infecting others. Pity that the latter group is mainly farangs.

    That is my point!

You do not "develop" or increase tourism by increasing costs unless you are giving the tourist an increased benefit.

Where is the increased "benefit" to a tourist in increasing their charges, especially if they already have travel insurance?.

I believe TAT will loose more than they will gain.

Singapore has a charge too. Nobody stops visiting Singapore.

The book store listed by th3 OP is good.  There is another one on Sukhumvit Rd between Soi 26 and 28 that also sells the same type of used books. The place is Dasa Books

Dasa does mail order & has an ext. online booklist. But Dasa is not cheap. Sometimes I rather buy new for a few Baht more.

OK, I actually live here, away from the tourist areas and I'm just telling you what it is like here.

Why would I want to lie about the current local mask situation?

Have you been around or stayed in my area (a main market town in Samutprakarn)?

If I walk outside of my office now, out onto the main road running through the area, I can guarantee that just like yesterday and the previous 600 days, everyone (and I do mean everyone) will be wearing a mask.

How can what I see in front of me, with my own eyes, be nonsense?

Also, other posters who live here are posting the same story.

Please note that I did acknowledge that the tourist areas will be different, why don't you open your mind up to the fact that the places in Thailand that you haven't visited might not be the same as the places that you have actually visited?

In Sukhumvit area 95% masks. I live in serviced apts. and only short stay western tourists ignore mask recommendation. All staff wear masks.

Not sure if Scoot are even flying that route anymore. I looked a while back and there were no available flights.

Booking through a third party can be a problem in situations like this.

It doesn't always pay to go for the cheapest flight.

I use Skyscanner to see what is available and then go straight to the Airline.

In my opinion the best 2 options for Bangkok are EVA and Thai direct, booked through the airline. Less can go wrong.

Emirates or Qatar not bad options as well.

I understand they no longer fly this route.

Even a valid re-entry permit is no guarantee of a smooth passage in boarding a return flight to Thailand after a trip to foreign parts in my experience. A few years ago I had a devil of a job in persuading a check-in assistant at LGW after a trip to the UK that my re-entry permit was good to go. In particular she was obsessed with the fact that my original non-OA visa had long expired! Thankfully she eventually relented and allowed me to proceed to the boarding gate.

Should the OP have the misfortune to encounter a similar experience for his eventual return flight with a check-in assistant who proved rather more obstinate, my advice to him would be to summon their supervisor - who will, hopefully, be rather more clued-up on the vagaries of Thai immigration processes!

Similar experience with LH check in agent in Munich. Have a return ticket. She had never seen a re entry permit nor a retirement ext. & LH system "doesn't recognise this type of visa".  In the end it got sorted out.

Red Cross is cheap, but each test is done in different building, so full day. Around 600b.

St Luis on Sathorn, only slightly more expensive, but fast 1h.

Also 8 locations in Bkk https://www.pathlab.co.th/individual-blood-tests/ - I don't know prices, not listed on website. For cancer markers they have 8 tests.

also Briatest at Ladprao, for cancer they have 11 tests, no price, I have send them mail asking cancer markers.

Also RSU Healthcare - very expensive in comparison to the government hospital

St. Louis you can't get a test anymore without seeing a doc first. Husband's recent experience. St Louis is not so cheap. Bangkok Christian for your purpose is would be my recommendation.
