  1. Good, finally he does the right thing. Get rid of that old ball and chain called EU. coffee1.gif

And possible a smaller country to boot. I fully expect that Scotland will have another referendum on succession - both because of unfulfilled promises and because of a change of status of UK as a whole.....

That really would be the icing on the cake!

According to some of my (few) Scottish friends, they are definitely looking at a rerun.

The No side won last time, but the exit polls indicated that without last minute promises it would have been a Yes vote -- and that the perception that the promises have not been kept could tip the scales.

One of the big arguments used by the No side was -- an independent Scotland would have to reapply to join EU and would lose membership.... that argument would be off the table. I suspect an independent Scotland would be fast-tracked -- since EU would not have to worry about upsetting one of it's members.

For the few that think this is not a potential problem with an independence vote - consider two edge cases.

Scotland voting to stay in the EU, England voting to exit - net vote indicating stay (this would cause political stresses by those in England that would be bitterly disappointed at the outcome).

Scotland voting to stay in the EU, England voting to exit - net vote indicating leave.... this would definitely trigger another referendum vote and a likely Yes to succeed.

Either way - Scottish nationalists believe that this is an opportunity that will lead to them achieving their goals.

I obviously can't speak for all Englishmen but most I know - if not all - really wish Scotland a win on this matter and get their independence. They should be independent and that would leave us unmolested by their constant whining and complaining about both Westminster and the English as a nation.
  2. Abbas enjoys "popularity" among his own people at very low levels.

But if you're going to meet with a Palestinian leader, he's the one for now.

It's true that he currently enjoys low levels of popularity. One of the main reason is that he never obtained anything significant from Israel by his mainly peaceful and collaborative attitude. Paradoxally, the Hamas obtained more from Israel than Abbas did.
Yeah they achieved death and destruction of its own people. It also achieved filtering off millions of aid dollars to make Ashes Mashal a millionaire. They have managed to incite teenagers to stab Israeli citizens going about their own business. They achieved fantastic coverage when they slaughtered an Israeli mum of four (plus two adopted kids) in front of her children when they invaded her home. You must be well chuffed.
  3. If not for him pushing his amnesty through the whole coup would not have happened. His arrogance set this in motion (or at least gave it the perfect excuse) and now the guy is commenting on a situation he is the main responsible reason for. Priceless.

Some say there is an other reason for the coup (could be well true) but without Thaksin and his amnesty it would have looked totally different and all the changes would not have happened.

If he had not pushed as much and released his red terrorists we would not have been in this mess.

Yeah it would have happened. It was just part of the excuse for the coup.
  4. So the Pope opposes building walls? Hypocrite! He should start at home then - here's the wall around the Vatican..

    attachicon.gif60-vatican-city-walls.jpg

Was this supposed to be funny? It's not clever at all.

It's patently irrelevant to the OP's article.

    This is a bizarre post.

So the OP is all about the Pope's personal attack on the Trump (a statement which he is seriously back-peddling on) about Trump's ideas that the US should build a wall around the country. Yet the Pope lives in a country which is 90% enclosed behind walls. You don't see the connection nor the irony?
  5. Great story and outcome, but how can a bloke of 24 have any excuse for not being insured?

(& before the trolls jump on me I'm referring to the probs associated with age or pre existing conditions that apply to us oldies!)

As a teacher, I'm somewhat surprised he wasn't insured through the school.

Perhaps you and "evadgib" should follow the link to the full story. The insurance company flew his mum out to ThAiland which would indicate he did have insurance.

    You

what part of his opinions do you find fault with? All seems bang on the money.

    Me

It's putrid hatred masking itself as thought.

Why hatred? It could be pure fear masking itself as thought. I lived in the area (being in the middle east) in the late 70s and what I learned there was that the Arabs have a totally different belief system to westerners. I'm not saying it's right or wrong but very different. Back in those days there was no "Muslim v Jew/Christian/anybody it was Arab v etc.. The Muslim thing started when the Arab countries were getting their collective backsides kicked every time they attacked Israel. I think it was Syria (but it might have been Iran) who turned it into a religious thing by announcing to the World that all Muslims around the World should join this battle against the Jews. It's just really snow-balled since then. Now jihadists are invoking Sharia as a catch all excuse for violence and hatred. Most Islamic scholars revile Sharia as it totally contradicts the Quran but that's another story. Fear can breed hatred I guess. But all that aside, Muslims/Arabs definitely do have a different belief system and on a personal level, I don't believe it's compatible with my own belief system.

Been through this with you in past. I find your views incompatible with my own.

The post was that of a bigot.

Indeed, you would think that. Anybody who's beliefs or thought veer from your own and it's name-calling time!!! I won't lower myself to your level - which is lower than whale sh*t - by responding with name-calling. I'll just wish you a nice evening

I didn't call you anything. I was referring to the poster I responded to and you took issue with.

I call a bigot when they post a view based on prejudice and hate.

Calling someone whale faeces is, by the way, name calling.

    Sleep well.

You're going to have to enlighten me. Where in my post do I display hatred? I just opined that their belief system is different t mine. Thais also have a different belief system to mine and as I said before, it doesn't mean it's right or wrong. It means it's different. If you can't get your head around that, then I would say you're not as smart as you seem to think you are.

  9. The religion isn't under threat it's that many of the so-called upholders of the religion are scum.

Every religion is under threat from Islam

    AND every non-religion...

...they hate everyone including atheists. they even hate themselves too. Islam is religion of dominance, misogyny, bigotry and hate.

Religion in general is subjective superstition. Islam is subjective superstition on steroids. Islam is a disease which is becoming a real pandemic and destroying the world.

    Yawn.

Hate is staring at you from your mirror.

    Take a look.

    I totally agree
