  1. 40 baht is hardly going to break the bank is it? A lot of people here seem to be confused. The fee is for foreign tourists, not foreign people wanting to engage in "religious beliefs". And as for dual pricing, do you think Thai tourists really want to go into a Wat to nose around? There will be a cost involved to places, especially after coach loads of Chinese go visiting! Seems to me, the only people bothered about this are expats living here who will never visit anyway, far more interesting to invest 40 baht in a beer Chang at the local mud hut! I paid for myself and my daughter to visit Hexham Abbey not so long ago and it was a lot more than 40 baht. If I was going in to worship, no cost.

  2. I suppose every country in the world has to bend over backwards to accommodate these Muslims

Nope, you have just got to accept everyone has the right to their faith and it is the utmost of bigotry and intolerance to deny them this.

I apply this rule of thumb to all followers of all faiths.

That's the point isn't it? Muslim crave to be accepted and tolerated, yet do not tolerate nor accept any other religion nor person who is not Muslim. They also do not accept gays or women's rights. Have you not been keeping up with the news recently?
  3. What a way for a young girl to have life ended, raped by her own father and subsequently dying from an overdose, one assumes from drugs forced in to her by the father? It doesn't get any worse, the very person who is supposed to protect her, the one who she would rely on to protect her.... In the words of Robert Heinlein, "young children, like butterflies, need no excuses".

  4. This has got to be the most stupid newspaper heading of all time

American Expat in Krabi Hangs Himself in Apparent Suicide

If HE hung HIMSELF of course it was a suicide.Duh!!!!!!

    R.I.P.

Not stupid at all ! First you have to look at the options. Only the deceased knows what happened, and he ain,t talking :( This IS Thailand, and there is always the possibility, small as it may be, that he was rendered unconscious and then hung by person or persons unknown, and thereby hangs (excuse the pun) the doubt !

That's the point, if he was hung by person pr persons unknown, then he didn't hang himself did he.

  5. Critical thinking, as long as it's not about the Junta

So many on who post on this topic can not seem to grasp the reality of the situation.

It is O.K. to think critically about the current government, or " junta" as you have referred to it.

It is not O.K. to publicly express those thoughts.

    It's pretty simple...is it clear?

No, it's not clear at all. But let me see if I can dumb it down for myself as you seem to think anybody who expresses an opinion or view that doesn't exactly match your own views needs some kind of education/ qualification or clarification from yourself. By the way, who did appoint you in this educational role or have you assumed it based on your own high regard of yourself?

    1. Critical thinking good.

    2. Freedom of speech not good if it means expressing your critical thinking regarding the Junta.

    There, is that okay?

You are so close to understanding that I am proud of you!

    Try this:

Critical thinking and freedom of speech are to unrelated issues.

Critical Thinking is a teaching method never used in Thailand up to this point.

In this case, it is not a method of thinking.

Freedom of speech is not a right in this country

I'm glad to have been of assistance.wai.gif

I am glad for your sake you are not an 'educator' at my daughter's school based on that patronising flapdoodle.

    "Flapdoodle"! Love it!

  7. Yeah right, because the IMF is so credible. They were predicting sunlit uplands in 2007... they totally failed to see the US recession! They are scandalous in their uselessness! They totally and completely missed the onset of the Global crisis. It's forecasts for Greece have been totally wrong - every year! Blanchard, who was this skank's mentor has stated that there was no risk whatsoever of a sovereign bond crisis, or a Gilts strike, or a sudden stop of any kind. “Will financing be more difficult after Brexit? Will investors see the British government as more risky? I don’t think so,” he said. Make of that as you will...

  8. Not a great idea, but one wonders if she will get a fair trial.

Fair or foul - as long as they bring down the Shinawatra clan.

This corrupt family has been a plague on Thailand.

and yet the majority of Thais still prefer them to all of the other alternatives. What does that tell you? Better the devil you know maybe?

No.. It confirms what we already know... The majority of Thai people are extremely poor and worry about food on the table TODAY... How I'm going to pay for it I will maybe worry about next week...

Few Thai people can comprehend the sum the was stolen by this one individual... So it's irrelevant to them...

And this RPP 500 billion is just another drop in the ocean...

Like them or not... Justice must be seen to be done...

wow... Could you be more condescending towards the Thais?

  9. Fair or foul - as long as they bring down the Shinawatra clan.

That tels me that counting is not your strongest point.

As for devils, who am I to call the Shinawatras devils rolleyes.gif

Actually, Thaksin's second term was a clear cut majority. Yingluck's term with 48.41% is obviously another indicator of the popularity of the Shinawatras amongst the Thai citizens.

I know you don't respect the people in your country of choice, so that's where this remark comes from..

Actually, the topic is Ms Yingluck getting a chance to explain her fabulous self-financing RPPS in court. Both you and Ms. Yingluck are just trying to distract from that.

Ms. Yingluck was not speaking in court when she made the remarks you wish to parse.

    What was your point again?

    yawn.. zzzzz.....

if the Junta and their employees thought they had a chance of winning an election, why would they not just have one? Instead, they've for all intents and purposes banned any opposition and they're still delaying!

  11. Plastic Muslims. What about all of their 'no poison shall pass my lips' stuff. I'm amazed at how Muslims who are not supposed to smoke drink or listen to music seem to forget all about it when they get to Thailand and other countries..

What is amazing is that anyone would think that someone who has Islam/Christian/Hindu/Jew on their their birth certificate, or other official document, would not stray from the path of "righteousness" dictated by said religion or belief system.

Its a "label" they were born with.

In this case one which the Sharia Police, and apparently you, think should remain permanently attached.

You either have standards and beliefs or you don't. People who espouse one set of beliefs at home and then forego those standards and beliefs because nobody can see them, are plastic people. Why do you feel it necessary to support them? Perhaps because you too are a similar type maybe?

    Ad hominem.

In your case, I guess so

Yup. But try insulting the prophet and they'll come for your throat, even while drunk smile.png

Yup. But no different in reality to the "good' Christians inhabiting same bars etc. biggrin.png

    Or Buddhists, come to that!

I've been on a few flights coming to BKK from either Bahrain, Abu Dhabi or Dubai. Just watch the behavior of the groups of young Arab men change shortly after take off. Similarly going back, they sober up very quickly on landing!

That sounds rather similar to the Brits going to Spain and Greece and the Aussies going to Bali!

yeah except most Brits and Ozzies don't have a religious or moral reason for not drinking, smoking etc and we don't go after others for not behaving in the way we do - or in the case of these Muslims, in they way they're supposed to act!
